Go for it! Nothing better than having a freezer full of beef that you raised and know is not pumped full of hormones or chemicals. Warning...once you do this you will never eat beef in a restaurant again...it just doesn't taste good!
You have a nice herd of Hereford cattle. Some people have problems with pinkeye? Have you ever had this problem? I notice you also have laying hens. What breeds do you have? You truly have a nice setup. Thanks!
The only time we had a pink eye problem was years ago the farm next to us decided to raise Buffalo. Not sure what they were doing over there but the flys increased and all our animals got pink eye. Over and over again. It was terrible. They got rid of the buffalo the next year and no pink eye since... weird!
Hi Guys, This was an interesting video. Looks pretty cold there with all the snow. Its going to be hot 31 degrees here in Sydney today (92F). Your farm looks nice. Well done with all your hard work. Keep safe Cheers
I saw you gave them some fodder too. I've wanted to try raising up one calf to rośe veal size(I think about 8 months ). Now I usually have a few small trays of fodder growing for my chickens in winter. A mix of wheat/popcorn/sunflower seeds and oats. Occasionally lentils. Just depends on what I have around. They love the fresh greens and roots and they go crazy for the sprouted popcorn. But I think if I remember right too much sprouted popcorn would be hard on cows being ruminate. Too high a sugar content. My uncle claims it would cause alcohol fermentation in their gut. He wouldn't give them too much fruit like apples for same reason but im not that smart on cows yet. I'm still reading and researching. But your cattle are so happy and nice looking. I'm Sure they taste even better than they look. Great video.
Thank you. The only fodder we give the cows is barley. They seem to do ok on it but they always have dry hay to munch on which they need to keep everything good. We love raising the cattle. I think you will too and there is nothing better than having a freezer full of beef that you raised...no chemicals, hormones etc.... I will warn you.... once you do this you won't be able to eat a steak or a piece of beef in a restaurant...it just doesn't taste good. I'm sure you have noticed that with your chickens. Always nice hearing from you! Stay warm!!!
Cheers! Watching your convoy. Good luck! We are wishing you success with the movement and hoping we pick it up here in America. We miss visiting the falls...staying at the Embassy. Real shame we can't visit Canada!
Next time you come this way let me know would love to have dinner and chat watch your videos all the time . I have never been more proud to be Canadian... Thank you for the support...
Great small scale cattle up date of doing things right , just for the flavor and health of it . Consider checking out greg judy on youtube :) Folks might be asking what does a lb of beef cost to get in the freezer ? And of course , the difference in cooking methods for grass fed ( lean and healthy) vs imported store bought , full of fat beef :) just a thought . thanks again .
I love to see Herefords. We had a small herd when I was a kid. Good times. Thank you for giving us a glimpse of your operation.
Your welcome Mit. We love Herefords a great breed for a family farm. Very easy keepers.
Wow
Thank you for sharing this is something that I have been thinking about doing myself.
