Very nicely done! I found this video on the Home Assistant facebook group. Posted by someone else. Pretty well received. I found the ultrasonic disc links very useful for another project. Thanks for all of the references in the description!
Couple of years I ago I bought this Jebao Auto Dosing Peristalsis Pump system from Aliexpress. It was like 70€. Never hooked it up because I managed to drop it into a bucket of water. I think it's been drying enough now that I might pull it out from storage. It has only 4 pumps but you could do something with that. They advertised it as remotely controllable so maybe it has a NodeMCU/esp8266 inside. Your setup looks nice!
Very cool. Thanks for the tour. I just decided I wanted to do a small indoor automated garden of some sort (not weed, honestly). I actually want to do nearly the exact plants you have. One bell pepper, one or two tomatoes, one habanero, and one jalapeno. Anyway, I love your setup, but I think it served to help me realize that it isn't a small project. It's very cool, but I think I'll wait until I can do it right.
Amazing setup. I see you use General Hydroponics. I have hydroponic advice if you want to listen. The pepper plant will like a NPK mixture of 3-1-4. Mixing 1 part Micro, 1 part Bloom to 1.25 part Grow, .5 part cal mag will give you a mixture that will give you healthy growth. The Tomato plant will get bloom rot or the tomatoes will not turn out if the calcium is too low. Surfer and potassium are essential for flower production and essential oils for taste. Epson salt is a grate way to boost flowers/taste for fruit production. 500-600 PPM is a nice place to be. Generally never over 800 PPM. I think if you try these few things, you will see plenty of great tasting fruit.
Thanks for the tip! The peppers ended up doing really well. I pulled over 300 ripe reaper pods in my first harvest. The tomatoes didn't do as well, and some had end rot as you mentioned.
Awesome work fella. Have you ever seen Pepper plants turned into Bonsais? There's a guy in Finland who grows his peppers then re-vegges the plant and puts it in a small pot to train it. Some look amazing. A way to reuse hydro plants.
This was in my mind . The very big project I will do in my life . I found out u have done it . Its beautiful thanks. I will see if I will do it some time .
Tech overkill... I love it! I have esp8266's everywhere for PWM lighting and interval timers. The weight sensor for water level is awesome. Only one word of advice. If you haven't installed overflow standpipes right to a drain for your flood protection...just remember anything that is electronic or has moving parts will eventualy fail.. I llearned the hard way from my aquarium days
Sweet. They are so damn handy. I have ESP32s doing PWM jobs since the 8266 is a software PWM apparently. I do have an overflow on each tote that feeds a drain right beside them :D
This is fantastic! Been dreaming of doing this one day, do you have a running parts list on Google docs? Love the build and the room for expansion, you don't give yourself enough credit. Keep up the good work! Love the idea of the res scale!
this is exactly what ive been looking at doing for ages i have most of the stuff .. im looking at adding Lorawan (helium) to such a setup so i can monitor& trigger tasks from outside the house and also get sensor data from garden locations out of wifi range like in a field somewhere or an allotment or bottom of the garden . i beleive there are lorawan helium compatible esp32 s (915mhz for usa and 868mhz for uk europe ) now or just RFM95 LoRa module perhapes . Setting this up would mean alot of tasks could be made off grid for solar for summer grows
I think the breadboards are awesome! I just finally made the decision to use them in my project boxes and it was a great decision that I don't regret. Glad to see it works so well on a larger scale!
Hi You can use capacitive sensors outside the container to monitor preset levels. Sick sensors have relatively cheap sensors that will work well. All you need to do is calibrate empty level and filled level and set whether you need a Normally open or Normally closed status. I have used this type of setup for measuring level of corrosive where other methods such as ultrasonics proved unreliable. Well done on your project !
LED Gardener So I just got my raspberry pie and relays from Amazon where do I start? LOL do you have any videos for initial set up? Mind you I have no tech skills at all
Very well done. I have a similar setup. I am using sonoffs to control my AC devices. I have my EC and PH sensors as well as sonar sensors all routed to ESP8266's and ESP32's . My EPS's are all using ESPHome and all my automation is done through NodeRed. Drop me a line I would love to pick your brain and compare notes. Not to many people doing this. Took me a while to compile everything I have.
I appreciate this! I have built my own contraptions I was proud of a 4 ft light I made with uv blue royal blue yellow warm white deep red far red infrared. I have so many parts from my light builds i can do so much more with the wifi sensors
you are living the dream! this is so cool. with this level of control and the amount of data you can collect your like half way to having some machine learning AI system just running the whole thing for you! this is cool.
@@LEDGardener No worries. Small steps. Getting done my new apartment. Next small automated hydroponic set for window farming. Of course I will open source it. Stay healthy
this is awesome , i have build before same setup . i was added CO2 sensor in order to further regulate the fan air flow . when there is high humidity outside . you can monitor the minimum air flow needed (co2 concentration) and that way you get another point to auto fan speed .and control . would be happy to hear your opinion . thank you
Thanks man very nice of you to upload and share I have been thinking of doing the same project with no luck I didn't know where to start and I have found some companies that sell you a built up machine with the same concept but will cost you much more and with limited functionality where you cant expand on them.
love the scale!! running your r/o on a float like that will kill your membrane pretty quickly. better off if you can keep a large rez of r/o and fill it once a week or somethin. r/o's are more effecient when they run longer and very ineffecient when they run for short periods.
Interesting... thanks for the tip. Since I'm doing a full res change every week or so, it does empty that top tub out completely so between that and the little holding tank, I put through around 20 gallons per week. Do you figure that's enough to extend the life a bit?
@@LEDGardener sure, the main thing is you dont want it coming on and only running for a brief period. If you have the system off other than res changes youre good👌
Nice build. I need your skills with ardruino or raspberry pi. N we could both build some pretty crazy stuff after. I setup a 100psi aeroponic/fogponic system that circulates. The use of weight sensors is overkill but nice.
Super diy automated growing system that is a work in progress. Hope you are getting thru the Covid-19 lockdown & recession okay. You have an excellent skill set that could be helpful in certain employment situations. Best of luck!
I understand how useless those bare copper moisture sensors are. LOL, Not even gonna say you could have done that for cheaper. you saved them from the garbage. In fact dare i say best use of them i have seen.
Awesome Job, Loving the idea of using the fans under the nutrients to mag stir them prior to dosing! I have been stuck on that one until now - just need to make me some. Doing something similar myself but using fully hydroponic DWC system. I decided to do it via Javascript (Johnny-Five) and node for the back end (using FIrmata for the Ardunio side) with some Svelte for the front end - quite the learning curve but great fun and mostly working out for me. Loving your build, very neat with how you have integrated the peri-pumps and the tablet display. Also good idea to weigh the water and I had the same idea although I only purchased a single sensor so not so sure how that is going to work.
Hey, awesome! How far along in the build are you? The weigh scale kit I got came with 4 little sensors. It’s a cheap one at $15-$20 or so. I think each is rated for 50KG and my whole full res is somewhere around 150lbs. The magnetic stirrers are great. I superglued 2 stacks of 4 magnets per fan and cut a hole out of the shelf the jars sit on to get the magnets as close as physically possible to the bottom of the jar. The fans are controllable via PWM as well, I found that I had to ramp the speed up at first or the stirrer would spin out and it wouldn’t work.
@@LEDGardener Mostly finished with the hardware side apart from a standalone (RF) controller for the Fill / Drain pumps and off course a new 8 channel mag stirrer still to be made. I mostly just need to finish the software side but this is taking longer than it should (for a software developer). I do have a couple of questions if you don't mind? I also went with the White Labs Tentacle Shield with EC, PH & Temp stamps/sensors and notice you have placed the EC/PH sensors on opposite sides of the res, (as they are isolated) is this required? For mine I basically stagger the reads so that none of the sensors are reading at the same time - but not sure if it makes a difference or is required, it was just easy to code that way via Johnny-Five (callbacks). Are you controlling your mag stirring pumps individually via PWM or just slowly spinning them all up at once? How often do you mix the nutrients or do you do this just prior to dosing? How did you get around calibrating the Peri Pumps and how these are working out as they seem to have liquid in both sides of the pipes with air gaps. How does this effect the dosing accuracy? Looking forward to seeing any updates to your system.
Great work! I’m surprised you have got your PAR Meter in there yet. Might be interesting to track the light level at the canopy level. You could see how things change as the plants fill out. Maybe a camera that would let you check the grow tent remotely from the tablet?
I considered integrating my meter but mine is older and outputs a very low voltage so I’d have to build a circuit that’s likely beyond my electronics capability to amplify it to the range an Arduino can work with. I have some Wyze cams that I would really like to integrate but they may not be ideal as I think you need to put them into an RTSP mode which isn’t really well supported.
Love the use of the Weighting Sensor you could also use an ultrasonic/distance sensor but as always there are thousands of ways of doing stuff and not right or wrong way as long at it functions the way you want it to.
For sure. I wanted as much accuracy as possible since I’m using the data as part of a script to create a fresh batch of nutrients, so when I specify I want 12 gallons of water in the batch I want it to be as close to 12.0 as possible and this method is working wonderfully for it!
Thought about making this in black market days about 8 years ago i thought of it with the video and controls via wifi to run multiple rooms at multiple addresses... obviously with a major plus for safety, ha. Smart... removes having to hire someone to feed when youre away😎💯♻️✌️
If you haven't looked into MQTT and Node-RED, I highly suggest it. I can't stand HA's automation system. Also, Tasmota and ESPHOME. Todo mundo já teve uma ideia dessa. Principalmente quando se trata de plantas em tendas hehehehehe
Very nicely done!
I found this video on the Home Assistant facebook group. Posted by someone else. Pretty well received.
I found the ultrasonic disc links very useful for another project. Thanks for all of the references in the description!
Oh that’s awesome! Thanks for letting me know. It’s times like these that I wish I was still on FB.
@@LEDGardener I understand. I only use it for the groups. No personal stuff at all.
Awesome set up. Very informative and well explained. Very distinct colored fan in the project box. Thanks for sharing with everyone.
great setup. I'm interested in more detailed explanations on the components and parts list..
Using pc fans as magnetic mixers for the nutrient is a fantastic idea!
For your water level measuring. I used a tof sensor and measure the distance from the lid to the water level. Hope this helps
I'm about to start my garden automation this year using Python, Raspberry Pis, and Arduinos. This video gave me crazy motivation to start. Thanks!
Get to it!
It also easily converts into cardiopulmonary bypass machine
Oh that’d be neat. The reaper had a nice structure that would have looked pretty cool.
Thanks man. It’s a lot of fun. I’ll draft up a parts list shortly.
this is exactly what ive been looking at doing for ages i have most of the stuff .. im looking at adding Lorawan (helium) to such a setup so i can monitor& trigger tasks from outside the house and also get sensor data from garden locations out of wifi range like in a field somewhere or an allotment or bottom of the garden . i beleive there are lorawan helium compatible esp32 s (915mhz for usa and 868mhz for uk europe ) now or just RFM95 LoRa module perhapes . Setting this up would mean alot of tasks could be made off grid for solar for summer grows
I think the breadboards are awesome! I just finally made the decision to use them in my project boxes and it was a great decision that I don't regret. Glad to see it works so well on a larger scale!
Hi
You can use capacitive sensors outside the container to monitor preset levels.
By far the best hobby set up I’ve ever seen! Wish I was half as smart as you dude
Thanks! I wouldn’t say I’m particularly smart... Maybe resourceful is a better word hahaha
Hey that's awesome! I really want to make the jump to NR. Most of my ESPs are running ESPhome as well.
I appreciate this! I have built my own contraptions I was proud of a 4 ft light I made with uv blue royal blue yellow warm white deep red far red infrared. I have so many parts from my light builds i can do so much more with the wifi sensors
That is the neatest prototype I have ever seen. Nice work!
I left software about 3 years ago to garden and I find myself back here......this is GNARLY. next automated monotub for grow shitake WHAAAAATTTTTT
wow you are super smart brother that is an amazing setup super cool stuff
😊
you are living the dream! this is so cool. with this level of control and the amount of data you can collect your like half way to having some machine learning AI system just running the whole thing for you! this is cool.
And then my goddamn garden will go Westworld on me
@@LEDGardener Yep, Automation will do that (one day)
You are living my dream. Awesome project
Get on it!
@@LEDGardener No worries. Small steps. Getting done my new apartment. Next small automated hydroponic set for window farming. Of course I will open source it. Stay healthy
Ive watched this video many times. Fascinating and very well thought out system
WoW! I found a Ph.D. in gardening! Amazing project! Keep it up!
this is awesome , i have build before same setup . i was added CO2 sensor in order to further regulate the fan air flow .
when there is high humidity outside . you can monitor the minimum air flow needed (co2 concentration) and that way you get another point to auto fan speed .and control .
would be happy to hear your opinion .
thank you
Long time brother. Always great info. Stay safe and keep growing 🙏👊
Led_builder.org was tryn some of this too
Hey man, great to see you again. Hope you’re doing well!
Thanks man very nice of you to upload and share I have been thinking of doing the same project with no luck I didn't know where to start and I have found some companies that sell you a built up machine with the same concept but will cost you much more and with limited functionality where you cant expand on them.
I love what you've done, I'm shocked you don't have endless connection problems with a breadboard in a grow tent though
Knowing now how easy it was to slap a PCB together, I can't believe I hacked it together like that.
This TP Link outlet face looks amazed for your work
😮
That's as bush mechanic as it is impressive. Great stuff
Dude this is seriously impressive. Nicely done.
love the scale!!
running your r/o on a float like that will kill your membrane pretty quickly. better off if you can keep a large rez of r/o and fill it once a week or somethin. r/o's are more effecient when they run longer and very ineffecient when they run for short periods.
If you have the system off other than res changes youre good👌
You are gifted. Beautiful work
Show your "other" tents, please.
Tomato..of course lol.
What are you a cop 🤣
@@redpillproductionscanada5563 no ... a potential ... customer.
that must be the coolest system ive ever seen!
Thanks :D
Nice build. I need your skills with ardruino or raspberry pi. N we could both build some pretty crazy stuff after. I setup a 100psi aeroponic/fogponic system that circulates. The use of weight sensors is overkill but nice.
U built my dream dosing system respect man
W😍W you have such an amazing automatic system like this for managing your plant stuff 👌👌
Super diy automated growing system that is a work in progress. Hope you are getting thru the Covid-19 lockdown & recession okay. You have an excellent skill set that could be helpful in certain employment situations. Best of luck!
Wow, this is absolutely amaizing!
I understand how useless those bare copper moisture sensors are. LOL, Not even gonna say you could have done that for cheaper. you saved them from the garbage. In fact dare i say best use of them i have seen.
Must be one of the sickest DIY setups I have seen. Incredible!
@@LEDGardener Do you still have a link or something for the weigh scale kit you used? Would like to check it out. Thanks
Wow, amazing work! Any chance releasing the schematic for this particular setup?:)
Awesome DIY automated grow setup!
Really well done. Thanks for your time. Cheers from OZ
No idea what you are talking about 😂, but watching, and not understanding , just inspired me to learn and catch up....
Thank you...
Thought about making this in black market days about 8 years ago i thought of it with the video and controls via wifi to run multiple rooms at multiple addresses... obviously with a major plus for safety, ha. Smart... removes having to hire someone to feed when youre away😎💯♻️✌️
8 years ago you were streets ahead
Arduinos and such, and raspberry pi enabled all this for an easy 3 figure investment
I did a similar thing with weed. Using blynk. I love code l9l
Lot of work done! Congratulations !
Love the passion man. It comes across.
If you haven't looked into MQTT and Node-RED, I highly suggest it. I can't stand HA's automation system. Also, Tasmota and ESPHOME. I'm also using weight sensors with the HX711 board, D1 Mini for bedroom bed presence, and also for a basement water tank that pumps water up into the septic line when the weight reaches a certain threshold. It's addicting to automate EVERYTHING! :)
Nice. I'm using MQTT in this setup and switching to NR for future automations.
How does this channel only have 7 K subs? You deserve hundreds of thousands with the effort you put into your videos. I just saw your series on Meanwell drivers and I am so grateful that you took the time to explain in such educational way. Subscribed for sure and hope more videos are coming soon :)
Thanks man, glad you found it helpful.
Omg those stirrers are brilliant.
This is pretty high tech for some plants! Good stuff
Can you go into the details about your rez setup? solenoids usage & float valves.
Great project, i have done something similar in my greenhouse. I am working with node red for Software stuff, works perfectly stable and is pretty easy to use.
Next step is to implement openweathermap to it
Dude, Love and Respect from India
First thing is WOW dude what a setup. I can’t believe you have all that running just a 4x4. Time to make a greenhouse. I’m so confused on all that computer, sensors and all that lol. Good job man 👍
