This is exquisite. It is hard to believe that something this beautiful has only 12,000+ views and 70+ likes. It is like finding a beautiful spot to read a book that only few know about.
Builtlikeagun I had not heard this beautiful arrangement in many years. It’s because many of us don’t know the carol’s name. This very Christmas morning three days ago, I put on a Mannheim Steamroller Christmas album while we were opening gifts and was gloriously surprised when it came on. I scrambled to my screen for the title. It was my gift of the morning, followed immediately by “Coventry Carol”. I’m now hunting for as many versions as possible. Thank you for your post.
I whole-heartedly agree. One must remember, however, the way in the present day taste runs. The subtle and and intricate and detailed is often ignored for the loud, crass, and thoughtless, especially in music and art.
This gave me chills! What a phenomenal and talented choir! So, so beautiful and haunting. Very emotional and touching, too. This choir is absolutely amazing and is going to go far! Bravo! 👏 ♥️🎶🎵
Beautifully rendered, gang. One of the most soothing and melodious of all Christmas carol classics, you did the perfect orchestral and choral performances. Well done!
Bring a torch, Jeanette, Isabella! Bring a torch, to the stable call Christ is born. Tell the folk of the village Jesus is born and Mary's calling. Ah!* Ah! beautiful is the Mother! Ah! Ah! beautiful is her child Who is that, knocking on the door? Who is it, knocking like that? Open up, we've arranged on a platter Lovely cakes that we have brought here Knock! Knock! Open the door for us! Knock! Knock! Let's celebrate! It is wrong when the child is sleeping, It is wrong to talk so loud. Silence, now as you gather around, Lest your noise should waken Jesus. Hush! Hush! see how he slumbers; Hush! Hush! see how fast he sleeps! Softly now unto the stable, Softly for a moment come! Look and see how charming is Jesus, Look at him there, His cheeks are rosy! Hush! Hush! see how the Child is sleeping; Hush! Hush! see how he smiles in dreams!
1 Bring a torch, Jeanette, Isabella! Bring a torch, to the cradle run! It is Jesus, good folk of the village; Christ is born and Mary's calling. Ah! ah! beautiful is the Mother! Ah! ah! beautiful is her Son! 2 It is wrong when the child is sleeping, It is wrong to talk so loud; Quiet, all, as you gather around, Lest your sound should waken Jesus. Hush! hush! see how the child is sleeping; Hush! hush! see how fast He sleeps! 3 Hasten now, good folk of the village; Hasten now the Christ Child to see. You will find Him asleep in the manger; Quietly come and whisper softly, Hush! hush! see how the Child is sleeping; Hush! hush! Peacefully now he sleeps. 4 Softly to the little stable. Softly in a moment come; Look and see how charming is Jesus How He is white, His cheeks are rosy! Hush! hush! see how the Child is sleeping; Hush! hush! hush! He smiles in his dreams.
The LDS church doesn't refer to themselves as Mormons anymore. If you knew more about the LDS church you would have known that . I do know some people just like lke like like to complain!
The LDS Church does believe in Christ’s divinity but (erroneously in my opinion) deny the Trinity, choosing to believe in 3 different gods acting as one. Also this is a public university, there’s probably a few non-LDSers in the choir and orchestra.
If this were a BYU choir, your comment would be worth arguing about. And even then, you have it all wrong. This is University of Utah, not all of us are LDS.
Agreed Joe Smith was a liar and a conman but they sang this beautifully so...*shrugs* Also lol at Moroni, Nephi, golden plates, Urrim and Thumin or however one spells magic glasses LMAO
I can't wrap my head around how such a foully unpoetic translation of a French masterpiece gets performed. Seriously. Professional musicians, a professional conductor, and yet lyrics that are the artistic equivalent of everybody playing and singing out of tune and at different time. Is poetry such a lost art in our time?
One of the most beautiful Christmas songs.
Thank God for sending us His Son Jesus. ❤ Happy Holidays 2023
This is my grandmother's favorite carol. Her name was Jeannette and she was French-Canadian.
Sung so beautifully, it gives me chills , just love this !
A very good presentation..understated with good harmonies
The EPITOME of Christmas in this outstanding carol....

I'm not "Liking" Holiday songs because I want to keep them special for around the Solstice, just making a holiday playlist :-)

Not a widely known carol. I sang it in jr high or sr high choir.
An absolutely beautiful arrangement, sensitively played, sung, and conducted. Thank you for the upload!
Angelic! And Glory to the King!
Best arrangement of this carol. Beautiful nuanced singing and conducting.
Im singing this song for my Christmas concert !
Just perfect! Thanks

Fun fact: 1668 was when this came out. The Restoration Period where Christmas was reinstated after the civil war.
Long live the Stuarts and Merry Christmas to all who read this, God bless!

Pretty sounds -- bad recording? I couldn't understand the words...
Theres something wierd about mormons singing carols since the reject the divinity of Christ for sleezy joe smith?
Maybe you don't know as much about mormons as you think you do? Maybe if you did, it wouldn't seem so weird? ;)
