Capital Markets / Investor Relations in Two Minutes or Less
Marshall Jefferson, House Music, and Investor Relations?!
    “That’s magic brother.” Marshall Jefferson
Thank you to everyone who interacts with my content on LinkedIn, RUclips, and TikTok.
Today I am on location at Fullerton and Narragansett, or Jacob Riis Park.
Historians among us know Jacob Riis for writing How the Other Half Lives. A great work from the progressive era of U.S. History.
Nevertheless, I chose today’s location because of today’s topic House Music and Investor Relations, as Jacob Riis Park is located on Julian “Jumpin” Perez Way.
A Chicagoan growing up in the 70s and 80s is likely familiar with House Music.
Even more so familiar with Marshall Jefferson’s House Music anthem Move Your Body.
Being a 90s kid in Chicago, my intro to house came through Julian “Jumpin” Perez and Tim “Spinnin” Schommer, on uDance with B96 on Channel 26 the U.
    House Music and Investor Relations
Watching a documentary on how Marshall Jefferson created Move Your Body gave me the inspiration for today’s content.
There are two things to call out:
    1. Creative Process, and
    2. Simplicity of Message
    Creative Process and Investor Relations
While watching the documentary, I could not help but feel a connection, as Marshall Jefferson described how he came up with Move Your Body.
He described working at the post office and all of a sudden, the piano track pops out, the drum track pops out.
He calls his guys and says we need to go to the studio and cut a song.
They go to the studio, record the song, and are done in 15 minutes!
    “Man, this is hot.”
    “Man, this is a groove.”
    Jefferson knows it’s a banger.
    “That’s magic brother,” Marshall Jefferson.
I can relate because I may be in a library or walking down the street and all of a sudden, boom, a slide to answer an investor debate pops into my head, or LinkedIn video pops up.
I start sketching it out. I know its good. I know its fire and will help investors.
    Simplicity of Message
Move Your Body represents an incredibly simple song consisting of four lines repeated throughout nearly eight minutes of pure electricity.
Gotta have house music all night long.
With that house music, you can’t go wrong.
Give me that house music to set me free.
Lost in house music is where I want to be.
Here in lies the key message for public company executives.
Executives always complain investors ask the same question four or five times.
Public equity investors will not believe you, understand you, or give you credit for what you are saying, until they have heard it four or five times.
    1. Remember to keep the message simple.
    2. Remember you will have to say it more often than you want.
If you are truly Chicago, its gotta be House Music all night long.
If I can connect House Music and Investor Relations, I can create a narrative to unlock shareholder value for you!
If it has to do with Investor Relations, you gotta call Steve Rubis, Mr. Investor Relations!
