  • This 8.5 miler from Country Walking was undertaken on a cloudy afternoon, with sunny intervals and a light breeze (which sometimes comes across on commentary.
It's sets out from the village hall and then crosses fields before some quiet country byways and tracks are taken to reach Burrough Hill Country Park.
Lunch is had here, where some fine views can be had from the 690 foot summit.
Thereafter, the 10th Battalion Trail/Dalby Hills Path/Leicestershire Round and Jubilee Way are followed through woodland prior to the descent across more fields.
St James's church, Burton Lazars provides the scene of the finale.
Not a bad walk, which could be muddy after rain, with some fine views from the hill. The field crossings could be irksome as the landowners do not seem to reinstate the paths after ploughing, as they should!
(Brown butterfly believed to be a Speckled Wood).

Thanks for continuing to watch Pam. They're not for everyone as I tell it as I see it and am definitely not a 'rose-tinted glasses' observer!😉👍

Nice walk, with nice scenery, like you say footpaths could do with tidying up,and more signposts needed.Glad the rain held off.

Yes, a pleasant enough walk, but the attitude of various local authorities towards their footpaths varies enormously, as I often note. This is why I feel that DEFRA need to implement national guidance and monitoring; the present system, for the most part, just isn't working adequately.
      Thanks for watching again Dave😉👍

Thanks again amib. Leicestershire is a county I am not too familiar with, though have explored Charnwood Forest which I believe was the high ground visible at 7.37 to the west of Leicester in those lovely views from Burrough Hill. Appalling path maintenance and signage though. Thank you so much once again

Me neither Gillian, so unsure it was Charnwood I saw; probably too far away to be truthful.
The weather and rail strikes are likely to hamper walks in the immediate future☹️
Hope all's well and thanks for watching again😉👍

Hello Andrew, hope all is well with you. Today is Sept. 8th, and am grateful to you for yet another lovely video. Today as we all know, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth passed away. It's been a grieving sort of day for us and the good weather is also leaving us. Very sorry there were upsets along your walk. Hope for better things, maybe media coverage. All the best, thanks again!

Yes, very sad news, but not unexpected, I'm afraid; she looked very frail performing her last duty with Truss just a few days back. A new P.M and King all in the same week...☹️
No walk this week, due mainly to the weather, which has brought welcome rain here, but could be out next week now that the train staff have cancelled a strike.
The walk was fine, but the path maintenance was well below standard.
      Thanks for watching again😉👍

Interesting to see another region in your walks. The gorse on the hill looks to be all common gorse, which regularly flowers in Spring, though often there are rogue bushes in flower at other times. The regular Autumn flowering species are Dwarf and Western Gorse, much scarcer altogether.

Yes, getting out and about more now, though the next few weeks will be problematical again, with rain, or strikes☹️
      Interesting about the gorse.
      Thanks for watching again😉👍

Just done this walk myself this morning, the farmer still hasn't marked the public footpaths and now the fields are planted. Sty's were also very badly maintained. Definitely muddy and boggy after rain, a lot tougher than I expected in honesty.

      Thanks for the update Padan.
Yes, I can well imagine those field-crossings and byways were irksome after rain. Wouldn't it have been useful to have the 'Pathwatch' app (currently withdrawn) to report such issues? I'm on the case with DEFRA and the Ramblers to get an appropriate replacement quickly.
      Thanks for watching😉👍

@@amib without a doubt the worst maintained paths and gates I've seen all year and I've prob done 50+ walks. Felt really conscious going through the unmarked fields (especially as they had been sown). Over here in The Beacon Hill/Loughborough area the paths and gates are immaculate, the farmers smile and wave and have a chat. I did the route the opposite way round to you and the first 3-4 fields had been ploughed and sown with no paths, then the last couple on the way back to the Village Hall were the same. Great video btw, always nice to get a little look at what sort of terrain to expect and an honest appraisal of the route.

@@padanfain7466 Thanks Padan (good nom-de-plume, btw).
Yes, my channel is contrarian, in some peoples's eyes, as I don't wear 'rose-tinted glasses'; I give honest reports on the real state of the countryside, the poor path maintenance (where appropriate) and the woeful loss of nature. And I have this 'social history' recorded here over 13 years now...terrible!☹️

Shame about the state of markers/gates/paths up there, very poor. That woodlands looked nice however and the butterfly at 13:50 Speckled wood I believe.

Yes, a very poor showing on the path maintenance, but even worse is the loss of 'Pathwatch' app to report such issues easily. I'm still liaising with DEFRA to get such an app restored.
Thanks, I mentioned the Speckled Wood in the introduction. 😉👍
