Historical significance
In 1521, Magellan first set foot in the Philippines on a small island southwest of Guiuan. In 1944, American forces under Gen. MacArthur launched the liberation of the Philippines from Guiuan.
Guiuan Church
The church is known for its miraculous nature and is a destination for pilgrims and locals. The Jesuits founded the church in 1595, but the Spanish colonial government handed it over to the Augustinians in 1768. Saint Anthony of Padua is the patron saint of the church.
