Mainz, even though I moved away to Toronto, Canada I still love you, the spirit, the carnival and the wine. Mainz was my 2nd home as my family had escaped from East Berlin and were accepted in Mainz. I love your political satire during your carnival because it shows other countries how precious freedom of speech really is. Thanks, keep it up and you are still the city I would love to live in besides Toronto, Canada.
hey friend , I am going for a congress in November to Mainz .. I live in Toronto , but I feel the same with you but with Leuven in Belgium.. I spent 3 years in Belgium ... cheers
Hi Viollllllla !! YES! we are going to ISNI , actually my partner is the scientist , I am IT engineer and actually , she will participate and my Son and I vacation he he.... see you there!! what flag I see behind you ? Colombia? we are from Argentina , hablas castellano? :)
Fernando Martin No I'm actually from Israel, but I'd love to meet you guys, my real name is Ekaterina or Kate in short, I hope we'll find each other there. :-))))
I lived in Mainz Germany from 1977-1980. Best time of my life! !! Was stationed on Finthen Army Airfield. Some of best people EVER! Carnival in February, Octoberfest, Car racing on Airfield, plus beautiful city! ! Going back after 30yrs this March. Best time of life! !! Tommy Davenport, Willie Jackson, Roy Benton, William Johnson, Bobby Carlyle and Steve Harris. Also my good lady friend Melonie Fink and sister Beth.
Where are you living now? I immigrated from Mainz, Germany to Toronto, Canada. I am going back there to see my family approx. every 3rd year. Both of my parents have died and I only have one younger brother, cousins, nieces left. Some of my relatives are living near Berlin - I was born near there and my family escaped from the communist regime in East-Germany to West-Germany. I not only love Berlin - my home (or what we call in Germany "meine Heimat") but also my second home of Mainz at the Rhein. It is one of the oldest cities in Germany, they have the best Carnival celebrations and a sense of humour, considering our own in Berlin is only second. I miss it very much sometimes but now I live in Toronto and I love it here.
I lived in Mainz for around 10 years after my family escaped from East-Germany to West-Germany. It was a cultural shock because we came from a communist country and had to adapt to a West-Germany. But, Mainz is a beautiful city, open to newcomers because of their University and their history, like adopting Johannes Gutenberg and his invention of the new printing press in the 16th century. I loved the architecture of Mainz because it was so different from where I came from (Berlin area) and the history behind it. I immigrated to Canada and started a new life here but I always will remember the Mainz spirit especially during Carnival time which was phenomomal and like a political Cabaret (like we had in Berlin). I still love this city and what it stands for.
I was stationed in Wackernheim for 3 years, and our base was in Mainz. I love that city. I used to go to a little bakery on a side road and get their ham, egg, cheese breakfast sandwich - it was huge! Then, I'd go to the little 'zoo' where I could watch the wild boars. The wild boars in Germany and I had an understanding while I was there, since we had many encounters when my unit would go out to the woods to do field exercises. Legit fell into a boar hole on one of these exercises one night. Good times. Hopefully, one day I can go back for a visit - see if all of my usual places to go are still there.
Surprisingly good overview. It is missing a few very iconic sights, but I actually like that. Let the people who come here discover something they haven't seen in the video before. Thumbs up for a very well done introduction to Mainz, the most beautiful place in Germany (though I am biased, of course).
As an Asian, I arrived in Munich, Germany in 1950 as a student. Learned German language for 4 months at Blaubeuren. Graduated Dipl.-Ingr. from Darmstadt Techischer Hoachshulle. Moved to Mainz in 1956, and had worked there at Firma M-A-N, AG, Gustavsburg. This firma specialized in design and bulding "Opera House" around the World--specially the largest New York Opera. I loved Mainz which was a part of American Army Sector. Closer to Mainz Bahnhof, there used to be a Auslandecshe Klub where local Mainzers and auslander gets together every Friday, and lots social actvities like many surrounding trips/weine farms/city ancient buildiungs/plus trips to closer club at Wiesbaden. Now, as retiree, I miss Mainz a lot. If there is any social klub in Mianz, I would love to viist there. Can somebody help me? Chuss! Albert Khan, Dipl.-Ingr Las Vegas, NV. I come to Mainz every year when I am working in the Mittelrhiental. Except for the Pandemic kept me from visiting last year :( Who do I talk to about a booth in that market?
Which market do you mean? If you have any questions about one of the municipal markets, you may contact the market administration of the city of Mainz. www.mainz.de/vv/produkte/wirtschaft/volksfeste-maerkte.php
