Water standing on the bed rails is an indacation of too much water, the borad thanging tickness ad knott areas could be, belt tention, tire inflation or tenitor device. Just my thoughts, Nice Build! I would add a elevated bed under log storage so you can roll logs onto saw bed at the same elevation, allows for additional drying while sitting on storage rails awating cutting.
The amount of lumber I cut in this video is worth around 80-100 EUR so I can call it a great success since I don't have to haul my money to the retailers. I agree - it gives one a great feeling of independence.

This is a pre-paint tip video. Where there is rust, there is no grease/oil/whatever! 👍 😁 Now you can use 'Hamerite' directly over the rust and you're done! 👍
Idea. Take 2 tooth brushes, zip tie them together with the bristles facing each other. Oil the chain, slip the tooth brushes on so they cover the chain and cycle the chain through them. This cleans and distributes the oil evenly onto the chain. You can use it on the cables as well.
It's all very impressive, your mill and the little trailer you transport your logs on but I thought the logical thing to do was building a platform or frame work for your logs the same height as your mill bed so you can just roll your logs straight onto your mill bed , It would keep your logs off the wet ground and would dry quicker after rain,, , just a thought,,
what a great tool . i have an idea at 420 on the timer look to the left. where the vertical support is - you could put a ruler on there so the blade distance from the deck could be measured. and then it would be easy to make exact measured cuts with ease? just a thought
Yeah it's the camera that throws off the Eyeball. you did a beautiful job on building your saw mill, you need to start up and build saw mills and sell them, how many sawmill manufactures do you have in your country. Donn I sure wished you would live next door to me, you have a very smart head on your shoulders
Since you have established the fact that you are fully capable of fabricating machinery etc., I would strongly suggest that you should construct a gantry with wheels which has the ability to lift above and position heavy logs onto the sawmill's bed. The system you are currently using to drag and load the logs, appears to not have the strength needed to safely drag and pull the logs that you are positioning for milling. A scenario which makes for a dangerous situation if it is not corrected in the near future. The more you continue to use the system, the weaker the cable will become and the more apt the cable is to break when pulling a heavy log onto the mill's bed. Hope this helps.
I like how you implemented a gravity fed water drip instead of the spritz bottle. Do they make a double-sided band saw blade, so you could just go back and forth instead of going to the starting position all the time?

I agree - I'm just super lazy and want to make life harder on myself as it appears. There wasn't enough rust to remove when I built this mill, I'm collecting it for a more intense "Hot to paint extremely rusty surfaces" video. :D

Did this sawmill get painted? The elements, snow and rain can destroy it over time otherwise. Maybe, even a rain/sun shade over the engine frame. Looking for the update.
I find it satisfying to watch saw milling videos on RUclips, too, maybe it's the blade going through the wood in a close-frame creating perfect rectangular shaped lumber. Or the whining sound and the sawdust flying. I don't know. I haven't thought about the double edge blade since it would require some serious re-design on the sawmill. I'm happy with this simple and well-tested concept of a band sawmill. I presume the double edge bands might be more expensive too? I don't really know but I'm just guessing. :D Your idea is really good for industrial work but for my needs it would be overkill I think. ;) Thus I don't have hydraulics or any electric systems installed on the mill. I'm cheap that way. ;)
Plus nothing beats the smell of fresh sawn wood. Yeah I agree a double edged blade would require a redesign especially of the tensioner rollers. Your mill works just fine for your purpose and hope to see more of it in action. Did you come up with a plan for blade lubricant/cooling if you wanted to saw in the middle of winter where water would freeze? Maybe a drip feed of chain saw bar lubricant? Then again if you used hot water it might work ok.
I've heard that people are using winter diesel fuel when milling lumber in winter at below zero temperatures. It probably lubricates the guide rollers better than water and is better anti-pitch build-up agent too I guess.
I'm a sawmill guy. Wondering ( I know there is a reason) why are limbs cut an inch from the trunk? Does it keep knots from drying out??? Is spruce bark that thick ??? All hardwood mill here.

Hey maybe someone already said this to you, and zero disrespect meant saying it: Don’t roll the log towards you on that side of the mill… roll it towards you against the upright stakes on the other side. You can get away with doing it the wrong way… until you don’t. I only say this because I narrowly avoided getting my leg crushed last year making that mistake. Will never not roll it against the upright stakes again after that, not worth the risk.
But that said… this is another badass build donn…. It’s great to see you having almost a million subs now too, you earned the monetization and then some so I hope RUclips is paying you. I remember finding your channel a few years ago and wondering why TF you didn’t already have like 2 mil.

awesome sawmill, it looks like it runs very well, do you have to adjust the blade tension much because of the air tires?
Not much. I just tension the blade up to a point where it's harder to push down between the guide rollers. It has worked pretty well so far like this.

Nope, these were 3x6 cm strips, 1.18"x2.36" accordingly.

These angle cuts pointing outward are for turning the logs on the mill so the log slides over the ends better. That's all. Thanks for watching!
