I feel like Shattered Glass just has that style that Nemesis lacks. Like, Nemesis Prime typically doesn't have much to do with Optimus as a character. He just looks like him, is as powerful as him, but is on the other side. Most of the time he's just a mindless clone (or brainwashed Optimus) controlled by someone else. RID Scourge is like the only one with a real personality, and the others come off as fairly bland. Shattered Glass, on the other hand, is not simply evil, he's *as evil as regular Optimus is good*. And since regular Optimus is such a nice guy, even more good than Megatron is evil, this means SG Optimus gets to hit absolutely psychotic levels of wickedness that are beyond even most Megatrons. He's got that level of completely unrepentant bastardry that you just can't help but love to hate.

In my opinion, Nemesis Prime is better overall because there is a lot more you can do with him. Especially in terms of story. The one thing I don't think anyone has actually done with him is have a villain make an army of the blasted things. Maybe have one defect or go AWOL, and modify themselves to finally be able to express some individuality.

I don’t collect any of the toys, but strictly speaking characterization and design wise, Nemisis Prime has nothing really going for him. He’s just generic black, red, with a hint of cyan, with no personality or such that helps him stand out. Heck, I can’t even call him his own character personally, he always just been “that one guy”, and nothing else.
At least with Shattered Glass (whichever version of him in continuities it don’t matter), he FEELS like his own person. Also like you said in the video, his color palette stands out more-there being a bit more nuisance.
I never actually thought about them in this sense before, pretty interesting to think about😄

For me, it will always be Shattered Glass Prime. Personally for as much as I've enjoyed the Nemesis color scheme, it's just a color scheme usually applied to very uninteresting characters and also it's just black with some other colors. It tickles the part of my brain that loves characters like Shadow but it doesn't do much. SG, there's just something about the purple, muted blue and green that just clicks and paired with specifically the Classics Optimus design? He looks like a Prime that went down a much darker, more militaristic path.

In my headcannon the origin for Nemesis Prime ties to Optimus' G1 cartoon origin:
During the process to save Orion Pax, Alpha Trion didnt just rebuild him, he transferred his essence/spark into one of 3 new identical models he was working on to aid in the fight against the Quintessons (instead as it turns out the war againts the Decepticons began). He had a blue & red model, an all white and a black & gray model. Since Orion's colors were blue/red he chose that model to transfer his spark onto. During this process his spark was "split" with the residual "negative" aspects Orion may have had as a result of being "killed" by Megatron (by negative aspects meaning anger, rage, vengefulness, etc) being remove from Orion while being transferred onto the OP model, so that a new pure, kind and heroic soldier could be the one to lead the Autobots and Cybertron to a bright future.
Then, Dion was taken to AT to help him much like he did Orion. Since Dion had been damaged worse and his spark being weaker than Orions, and using the all white model he had to save Dion's spark, it required add-ons to reignite his spark to full strength, thus Ultra Magnus.
Finally, AT still had not finished his work on the black model when the war came to him and his workshop, and explosion caused the machine that held the negative aspects of Orion's spark to malfunction and accidentally got fed into the black model, thus Nemesis was born.

As someone who grew up seeing Venom everywhere in Spider-Man stuff, it's no surprise that I prefer Nemesis to SG. In terms of origin, I think I prefer when he's a man-made clone of Optimus. I think there's more story potential when some human villains have a robot as powerful as Optimus Prime and use his visage to try and desecrate his name. And yes, I absolutely think there should be more fiction where Nemesis has machine-gun smokestacks, because that's metal as hell

  • @galaxycamerata
    @galaxycamerata 2 дня назад +1

When it comes to them, they each have their own vibe that I prefer they focus on:
Nemesis Prime: Half-feral monster that represents how he hates the people he fights for making him fight, sometimes way more than he does the fighting itself. Optimus is SCARY when he's mad, even if it's not a Bay film. He's made light of the suffering he's caused his opponents. He's gunned down thousands and only flinched once he's given himself enough time to think. I think he works best when he's NOT a full-black repaint though and mixes it up a bit with dark blues and pale-bone like Armada did.
Shattered Glass: Cold, holier-than-thou despot that represents what Optimus could be if he gave up. On life, on freedom, on fighting his base impulses, on finding his place and purpose in the world. He's an Optimus that couldn't bear the weight of his actions and let it break him. His most universal colors work more consistently, but he's never quite matched up to a body type that works past the Laser Prime redeco.
In the end though, Nemesis Prime is the only one who consistently gets to BE that counterpart rather than just existing as a villain that happens to share Optimus's body type.

That's kinda tough to choose, because one is not a character, while the other needs multiversal shenanigans if you want to incorporate him into the story (unless it's already set in his world)
Though I'd probably choose Nemesis Prime...but with a twist
You see, I feel like using him as a simple Herald of Unicron or an evil clone of OP is kinda boring
So if I were to write my story with Optimus as one of the main characters, I'd use Nemesis as like a voice in his head that tells OP:
"Hey look man, don't you think you're being a bit too nice? I know you want to give everyone a chance, but you know they're not gonna use it and will continue bringing destruction, right? Plus you know some of them are beyond saving, so I'd suggest we simply just...get rid of 'em, permanently
Remember Megatron? Yeah, the guy who you used to be friends with
If he's done saving you, why should you be saving him? You've already seen him fall morally, there's no point to keep trying"
Essentially, he would be mocking Optimus' attempts at being a good person
And it would get to a point where sometimes Optimus goes a bit too far, which means he would be slowly but surely succumbing to the voice in his head
And by going "too far" doesn't necessarily mean just killing people, no, he's most likely gonna snap at one point and is gonna show his frustrations with his teammates
I know you probably hate this idea because he doesn't start off as a perfect person, but y'know what? Good!
Nobody starts off perfect! Everyone needs time to fully develop themselves! Even Optimus would need a lot of development to become the robo-dad from G1 we all know and love, and overcoming this Nemesis, who kinda gives OP a Bayverse shine a bit, could make a good story about trying to become a genuinely good person in a bad, cruel, twisted world
If you feel like there aren't enough actually good people, try becoming one of them
It's gonna be hard, really hard, but the end result is gonna be worth fighting for
Alight someone's darkest hour, whether it be your family member, a friend, your romantic partner, a bunch of soldiers who start to lose hope, ANYONE you hold dearly to your heart

  • @Zer0sLegion
    @Zer0sLegion 2 дня назад

I think what it comes down to is Nemesis Prime is an evil Optimus Prime whereas, Shattered Glass Optimus Prime is an inverted Optimus Prime. Every Trait that Optimus Prime has is the opposite for Shattered Glass' version; he's cruel rather than caring, he's deceptive and cunning rather than honest, and he's selfish rather than selfless. I think that's more interesting as a character and makes Shattered Glass more interesting as a whole, however, Nemesis is more versatile as you can use him for whatever you want.

I’ve always felt Nemesis-likes have the best story potential. Forcing the Autobots to go against their leader they love so much and how they can possibly fight someone so strong is just infinitely more interesting to me than if Optimus just was evil and so were all the Autobots along with him

  • @Shizuma
    @Shizuma 2 дня назад

I'm more a fan of the Nemesis Prime/Dark Convoy concept, particularly from RiD, where he's a bot from the same mold, it just made for a more interesting story and character. I'd even like to see it taken further where they just happen to be two bots with the same mold, not created for a nefarious reason but just on different teams. Sort of like seekers etc. Like you could say Optimus, Magnus, Nemesis, are of the same mold. One just so happens to be a decepticon, perhaps he changed teams. Normally just looking like another bot isn't too important, but I think when it's somebody as important as Optimus it draws comparison not just for the viewer but in universe.

Color scheme wise... I'm color blind, keep that in mind. I can't actually see the teal, that's just more grey to me cause I can not see blue and from what I've been told teal is a shade of blue. The SG colors I originally thought that was just his Diaclone colors. Like to me if you put Diaclone Convoy and SG Optimus Prime side by side there's no difference because again I can not see blue. I've been corrected and told that Diaclone is actually blue and black, but that blue I see as purple. The dark blue on SG Optimus looks black to me. I personally think the SG colors are less interesting knowing it's just a random color scheme rather than being based on the Diaclone colors.
Personality wise... SG Optimus Prime is way more consistent as to what type of character you're actually getting. Nemesis Prime isn't consistent at all. Even the name isn't consistent like the most interesting Nemesis Prime in my opinion isn't even Nemesis Prime, it's RID2001 Scourge and honestly if that specific version was an option I would absolutely choose him. But since we're generalizing Black repaints or SG I think SG wins here just due to the fact there's actually some consistency.
Over all though I'm going with Nemesis Prime. I do like SG as a concept but there are aspects of it I really don't like. I've never liked the idea of "Heroic Decepticons" for example. They have DECEPTION literally in the name, it's hard to make that sound heroic and the amount of mental gymnastics they had to write in to explain it away is just weird. Why not just make Megatron an Autobot and Optimus a Decepticon or create whole new factions in that universe. I also don't like that there is no main stream way to experience Shatter Glass. The figures are all exclusives, there's the comics, but it's not a thing that has ever been in the cartoons. I was hoping when Cyberverse did their multiverse story that they would explore SG but the story didn't go in that direction. So I'm basically just going Nemesis because that's what I'm more familiar with.

SG Optimus is the twisted reflection of Optimus while Nemesis Prime is who he’d be if he broke bad! I always imagine Nemesis Prime as Unicrons Doomsday, plucked from a Universe where Optimus lost the war to Megatron, forced to watch as he eliminated every Autobot, conquered every world, and converted the entire universe into his perfect Empire. Then Unicron attacks and the Decepticons lose. Optimus, failing to stop Megatron, unable to resist Unicron, falls to despair, and as the last living thing in the universe he looks into the endless pit that is Unicron, and for the first time in 10 Billion years, refuses to fight! With him Unicron has his ultimate champion! The Power of a Prime, in the servitude of the Chaos Bringer! Whenever Nemesis Prime dies, he only gets stronger. When he isn’t decimating potential threats to Unicron, he’s being tortured, killed over and over again, to make him stronger, and keep him bitter. Preparing for the Final Battle, the day Primus and Unicron’s forces clash for the last time and their eternal war is finally ended!

Nemesis Prime/Black Convoy has been so many things, heck in IDW they aren't even much of a doppelganger at all rather they are Nova Prime. Meanwhile Shattered Glass Optimus Prime really only has 2 major incarcerations and as far as being an Inverted Optimus Prime goes I think Shattered Glass Optimus has a better track record. I will however say Nemesis does have the advantage that they actually have the opportunity to go against Optimus as an equal opponent or even make Optimus question his own morals. This concept can be done with Shattered Glass Optimus as well, though as far as I am aware it hasn't.

I will say I like both. However, if I were going to write something or see them use him again I prefer they use Shattered Glass so they can maybe flesh him out and change it up from Truck Megatron.
A Desk clerk rose up and decided they hadn't gone far enough, not for the lust of power like Megatron, but his immense self-loathing as a cog in the brutal oppression of his people as he filed just orders that got bots terminated. He was a personal coward who lucked into joining with Megatron and the rebellion rather than being one of the founders. He did nothing so after he's rebuilt into Prime he's super projecting his failings onto others. He feels he does not deserve this new power or this body so he feels inadequate, a fake. He wants Genocide because he and by extension all Cybertronians are guilty and must die for their crimes.

Well, I chose Nemesis Prime because even though he's basically the anti-thesis to Optimus Prime, but with the right writer I think he could be a good villain. Now, Shattered Glass Optimus Prime is like straight up Bizarro Optimus Prime.

Nemesis is better because Optimus is supposed to inspire the reader/viewer. Far too easily do we see evil incarnations, but nemesis challenges Optimus without routing his entire character. Optimus is great when he is good, and shattered glass feels as if we are having our view of the character we love corrupted, and personally I find no love for having our friend be such a different character.

I feel like SG could be used for more interesting stories than Nemesis but Nemesis can be used more easily like I imagine an Ultron like army of Nemesis' with one at the centre and like a story where SG is like the Kingpin and has to actually fight to keep his power and status

It's not really something you can say is definitively better than the other in my opinion, as I think it depends a lot on the type of story you're trying to tell. If it involves the multiverse than yeah definitely Shattered Glass, but if you're going for something more grounded/self-contained than you should go with Nemesis Prime. Plus, NP has a lot of range in regards to origins, from being an evil clone of Optimus, to an Optimus corrupted by Unicron, or a man-made Transformer made by extremists to fight Cybertronian's, whereas with SG Prime it's really only a mirror universe Optimus, and you have to incorporate the other SG characters in some fashion or at least acknowledge them somehow.

Nemesis all the way, an evil prime that can be shapped however you want to push a narrative, SG is more restrictive and requires a very specific context that makes it hard to work, hence why comics have been able to use it due to the the mediums nature, Nemesis also adapts to the constant changes the franchise goes.

i feel SG Prime and Shattered Glass as a whole more like a novelty then somthing that should be intergrated into the main stay. Since bringing Shattered Glass up all the time lessens the coolness of this what if idea. thats why i feel Nemesis is better then SH Prime. i'd even say his lack of an origin as a strength since theres more if he was only a herald of Unicron then shows that just want to have an evil prime and not use Unicron now have to deal with the bagaged of him being tied to Unicron.
i hope i managed to convay my point across why i think Nemesis is just a better option then SG Prime

Anywho, Black Convoy vs. Wicked Purple Convoy...gimme Wicked Purple Convoy for the win, the only ones worthy of being Black Convoy are the originally named Black Convoy aka RiD01 Scourge, and Superlink's Grand Scourge. And maybe the OG who ain't even named it: Copy Convoy from BWII.

SG Optimus for me. I do like the variety of Nemesis Prime, but more often than not, he's a bit generic and only there as "cool black repaint." SG Optimus just feels more like a solid character and threat with his characterization, and it's just the generic evil Optimus.
That said, I'm soooo sick of every good Nemesis Prime toy being a Takara exclusive for double its retail worth. Hasbro PLEASE just reissue the Netflix one or something.

I prefer Nemesis Prime for writ8ng potential. You can do a lot of different things with him, alternate timeline, clone. Brutal powerhouse bent on destruction, nihilist who sees no point in existence. Nemesis is by far the most malleable character in the franchise.
Me personally, I'd have him be a decepticon clone created for Unicron, with his own matrix of destruction. Id make him a nihilist. While optimus has hope for every living thing, Nemesis just wouldn't see a point in anything, whoch is he's willing to work with Unicron.

Admittedly, this one's pretty one-sided because SG Optimus is an actual character with a lot of fiction backing him and Nemesis is just a nebulous concept that only exists to sell black, teal and red/hot pink repaints of Optimii. Nemesis Prime is not a character unless we're talking RID 2001 Scourge or Universe 2003 Nemesis.

  • @dangeroustheannoying3618

Nemesis Prime isn't really a character, he's more of a concept, or dark reflection of Optimus, meanwhile Shattered Glass Optimus is his own character, allowing him to have more depth and nuance. But I am not a big fan of multiversal plots, and Nemesis has more potential, as he's a blank slate, so I'd go Nemesis.

I am fine with Nemesis Prime being an evil clone of Optimus Prime, but i can´t stand it being a corrupted Optimus Prime. Optimus is supposed to be the parangon of hope and goodness every Grimlock, Megatron, Impactor, Prowl or Starscream fall short of being. Optimus dying and giving the Matrix to Hot Rod (or Hot Shot, or Smokescreen) is far better for him than corrupting him. Same with the Bayverse Psycho.
As for the Shattered Glass version, I have much more tolerance with him, as the SG universe switches the sides: Autobots are evil, Decepticons are good. It also allows for far more creative ideas.
