    • @ashleighortiz406
      @ashleighortiz406 6 лет назад +13

      Any time you use a technological device that is connected to the internet, there is some organization of some sort "harvesting your data"
      How do you think apps like Netflix, Pandora, spotify, etc create playlists and suggestions tailored to your preferences?
      Facebook isn't the issue. The issue is that the public, as a whole, has willingly presented themselves to the internet, which is a public domain. Companies have capitalized on this ignorance, "harvested" the information that was willingly (albeit ignorantly) presented, and used it to their advantage. Even RUclips has an algorithm to present each user with suggested videos and pinpointed advertisements based on search history and watch history. If you want to avoid all of this, my suggestion would to be stop using the internet. Stop using your smart televisions, your Siri's, your Google, your GPS. it's all information that can legally be collected because like it or not, you yourself are CHOOSING to present it to the internet, which is a public domain.

      the REAL crime is that the trump campaign has mined (and will continue to mine) a lot of information about every man, woman, and child in the USA, in order to win his election. Courtesy of Cambridge Analytica who obtained it, fed a team called the Alamo project. and jerked around voters on Facebook, Twitter and other social networks to F_ck with our minds.

    The biggest worry is how much the American public can be so easily herded around by social media like sheep... It just shows how they know majority of the population have to be told what to think... The ones who aren't controlled by media, can stand on they're beliefs or opinions without social media or any media for that matter....

    I watched the full interview and to be honest, he seemed to me very intellectual, clever guy. His way of talking, explanations is good. The single thing that made me doubtful about his claims was his argumentation. When he was asked "What's your proof that they manipulated people?" he merely said "I was there, I saw everything". It isn't strong phrase to support your argument.

    First, Kogan has an appointment in St-Petersburg University - interestingly, the same very city where all Putin's mafia was originated, and the same very city where Russia keeps main work force of young "online writers" fabricating false ID-s in facebook and other platforms to play their political games... Isn't it a nice coincidence of Kogan's affiliation...? So, of course he is a "professor of semantics", so well-trained to play with words in a right way. But second, the Big Five personality test is forced by its authors onto thousands of users on the Facebook or many dating sites without warning that the data will be used for publications or other use. Then these academicians promote their careers by publishing juicy reports from their "massive studies" even though the consent of participants was not received, and the test itself if rather pathetic. Hey, psychologists - don't you have to have a consent for your studies, why your professional associations are staying silent in this scandal? Perhaps, because authors of the Big Five are having top management positions in your organizations? This means that after all this noise nothing will change, and Big Five psychologists will continue publishing the data obtained by Cambridge with subsequence promotion. And the Putin-Cambridge links will only be reinforced.

    This is not a scandal. Stop calling it that.. How do you whistle-blow on something that isn't even illegal? Everything they did was using advertising data that has been used by thousands of companies. They just did it better.

    Yeah ok that's why the news was saying how great it was that he was using it in this manner back when he was running. You have no idea what you're talking about.

    Guardian, maybe you can do a silly video on how Obama Campaign did the exact same thing.

      Edwin R I'm sure they would, if they had happened.
      See in the modern world we use this thing called 'proof' to back up our claims. So far there is a shocking amount of proof that Trump's election campaign was dodgy as hell.
      In contrast, there is no proof that I have seen that Obama's campaign was anything but legitimate.
      If you have proof otherwise, please share it.

      Oh yes the classic, "I'm going to make a statement but not back it up, you have tolook for yourself".
      Well how about I claim that you're a dumb shill. Go find proof to the contrary.

      oxymoron02 There is much more proof Obama’s campaign did it than Trumps by way of the fact Obama’s campaign manager openly discussed and boasted about it at several conventions. There are videos of her here on RUclips explaining it...what more proof do you require?
