Eldrad is a great looking villain. What an amazing costume.
She's got great head
@@grahamlong8701 She's got a great figure too!
I always appreciated how The Doctor usually does his best to help even the worst of his enemies to correct their behavior before the hammer falls on them for good. That takes more guts than just wiping out everything out of fear.
He does give his enemies the same opportunities to avert disaster as his allies. As much as he liked humanity, he hated the fact that humans tended to respond to the unknown with fear and hate, but he gave humanity all the chances it could get, too.
@@karazor-el6085 Yes, I appreciate his ire at humanity. He rarely shows much optimism for the activities of concentrations of humans, for a reason.
He did give her a chance but at the same time I think he expected she wouldn’t take it. His main strategy of getting her away from Earth and perhaps marooning her on Castria was perhaps always in his mind. He’s a complicated character, especially in this incarnation.
Ah, yes! The TARDIS interior everyone forgets the Fourth Doctor has. I really do like the look of it.
My favorite control room. Really added the the gothic horror vibe.
Hands down the best TARDIS interior. Imo
Nice and simple.
@E. Motion It looks how you'd expect Dr Who to look in the 1860s lol
Juliet Paris was superb as Eldrad. And what a killer smile she has.
We are in trying times but seeing Tom Baker at the end of this brought happy tears to my eyes.
@Liam Unruly Cuz it's still Tom Baker all the same.
This episode shows the unique and unusual "wooden Tardis" set and console. It was only used for a couple of episodes, unfortunately. It had a quirky sort of "Victorian" look to it.
The hand rails kind of look like they inspired some of the design elements of the control room in "New Who".
@@TheNoiseySpectator If only Eldrad knew there would be hand rails, she could have saved all the trouble of regrowing the rest of her body 😂
It was like flying around the galaxy in a 1920's stately home LOL...
My understanding is that between seasons it wasn't stored properly and moisture ruined it. It was the biggest shift away from the standard white interior during the classic series.
@@Maximusrex4575 yes, the panels were warped, so were unusable.
I love Eldrad’s smile
Me, as a child: Eldrad is a monster!
Me, now: Eldrad is sexy!
The Eldrad fragments are sexy; the original IS a monster!
Actually, I always thought that. Judith Paris.
Somebody needs to cosplay as Eldrad. MAKE IT HAPPEN NERDS.
Definitely sexy to my (then) teenage eyes. Right up there with Servalan.
This, also the costume/makeup aged well
"travel broadens the mind" fantastic line!
I love the fact that more and more with the 4th doctor he explains how the TARDIS works.
RIP Elizabeth Sladen
I just love the character design! It's so amazing!
It is a cool design.
They did so much back then with nothing. Ten years later, they had fancy computers and the quality went downhill badly
Sarah "off course are we?" munching on ice cream lol. "It's very nice". What a gem she is. Miss this Who. Especially the pseudo scientific dialog.
2:00 "Off course, are we?" Oh could Sarah Jane ever bring the snark...
Are! Tom Baker! The definitive Dr. Who and it's good to see Sarah Jane Smith as she was one of the best companions ever. It's a shame Elizabeth Sladen passed away as she did an excellent job as Sarah Jane, she is missed.
Among my favorite episodes with Sarah Jane are Pyramids of Mars, The Brain of Morbius, and Planet of Evil.I was fortunate to be able to take my daughters to see Tom Baker when he came to Boston in the early 1980's for a primarily Star Trekkers convention.
Sarah Jane felt very concerned when the Doctor told Eldrad that if she misset the coordinates that there wouldn't be a chance for them to land anywhere ever. Good that it didn't happen or Eldrad would ho crazy despite that her powers can't work while she's inside the TARDIS, which makes most weapons useless inside.
I love this tardis interior
Very nice, I love the round things!
@@becauseimapotato7599 everyone loves the round things
@William Sharp I have no idea
@William Sharp They are called roundels and they have various uses.
Because I'm A Potato 10th doctor: I love the round things
Dammit, when Tom Baker tells me not to forget to subscribe to the official Doctor Who youtube channel, I listen.
Heh, I just watched this story today (on the collection Blu-ray). Seeing Sarah Jane leave the Tardis still gave me the "feels" even now.
I'm 18 in 2020 still watching doctor who and I love it
I love Jody Whittaker
@@Sistamista-gm5lg same!
@@Sistamista-gm5lg She's underrated
So many negative comments about her and the other doctors but I really like all the new seasons. :)
If you were 180 years old in 2020 that would be impressive.
I was just thinking of this story arc and Eldrad not to long ago and now here's a clip in my RUclips feed. Weird, but welcome. I loved this show and Tom Baker when I was young. I was heartbroken to see him leave the show.
I like how you can see the tyre treads where the transport truck offloaded the Tardis 😂
2:04 As usual, Sarah thinks the Doctor's gone BANANAS... so she decides to have a banana herself (🍌bananas are good🍌)
and great at parties
They are a good source of potassium
At least they're not pears...
Maybe she just had to go to the bathroom, and was covering by stoping and getting something to eat after she was done. 💡
I enjoy watching Sarah eat a banana.
Bro!!! That transition with the blue eyes was way ahead of its time!
Not really. That was standard CSO overlay. Judith Paris' eyelids were painted green or some other colour that would act as a screen. You don't see paint when her eyes are open of course. But when she's bringing her head up, she's got her eyes closed so the paint is picked up on camera. The blue glow in the "eyes" is projected via an A/B video mix which electronically mats it onto the paint spots. Doctor Who had been using CSO screen overlay from 1970 onward, ever since the show's switchover to colour. Fairly standard technology in television then.
The "temporal grace" thing gets tossed out later, though I guess you could argue that it is just broken.
Eldred looks like something right out of Blake's Seven.
I had such a crush on Sarah back in the day.
Still the best.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds Eldrad foxy. Her and The Rani really made me reconsider my dedication to Good vs Evil.
I have/had entirely forgotten about this look of the TARDIS control room!
The best of the doctors, in my opinion. Thanks!
Wonderful ending with Tom Baker! And I always thought the female Eldrad was nicely done, both in costume/makeup and voice. Who played her?
Judith Paris.
I wish I was born around the time of time bakers series it seemed so different and well enjoyable unlike well you know now
@John I grew up with Davison, Colin Baker and McCoy (but also having earlier docs in my collection on dvd) and think classic is SO much better than what we have today. However one thing that always confuses me is people who grew up with all the original Doctors then defending Dr Woke . It's like being given gold which is then exchanged for copper and arguing copper is just as good as gold. Tom was the best though no doubt in my mind.
Be honest, just came here to see that amazing costume work. I mess the days of practical effects. I love CGI, but it will never be as amazing.
The Edwardian control room will always be my favorite, even though we hardly ever see it.
Back when Dr. Who was actually good!
Amazing sets and costumes the producers of the show today should take note .. proper dr who shows .
and the writing they should take note of also, so much better
You mean you don't like a ramshackle looking front door, a console made out of bits of old junk by 17 year olds studying "conceptual art" whatever the **** that is, and great big puke-yellow glowing rocks?
@@zacmumblethunder7466 Yes.
A state of temporal grace ......
Judith Paris bears a striking resemblance to Sarah Douglas, who was probably filming an episode of Space:1999 at the time
Whoa there, Mcenanly!
You are not saying that all English people _look the same_ , are you?
😒
Just those two.
James Mcenanly And Eleanor Bron. But just those three.
@Logan 5 I already said that! 🙁
BTW, nice to know someone remembers Logan's Run. ☺️
When Dr Who was the best.
Wow! That alien is awesome! What a beautiful costume.
What an incredible scene. Tom Baker was the best
Loved Sarah Jane Smith and this Doctor!
Dudley Simsons music during this era was so magical and atmospheric. Wonderful.
Eldrad must live
My favorite console room.
I love this console, I just wished it had a purple time rotor
"temporal grace" sure,doctor,sure
If the radiation is high doasn't he need a suit?
And if he doasn't need one wouldn't at least his companion need one?
But than again wasn't there also a limuted ranged safety field around the Tardis?
There is a safety field(not sure if it protects against radiation tho). I also assume they go off exploring the planet(they leave the tardis in the last scene) and will leave the fid
Maybe it's Anti radiation Drugs?
@@ab8393 but I thing there is also a limited range safety field that pretrudes outward from the Tardis....but than again one doctor was literally guned down directly in the doorsteps of his tardis
@@davidmartin5483 doctor who has contradicted itself an example is already in this clip the entity attempted to attack them but apparently it couldn't. However the tenth(?) doctor admits he was lying. In reference to your example, there was also a situation when the daleks tried to attack him but the safety field stopped them. However, the field may have been turned off as that has happened in an episode(where Clara was allowed to drive the tardis)
@@SuperFunkmachine they probably would have shown it off in the show. I assume they skipped it to save money and for convenience
Love this episode......and control room.
Hah 1976 was a while ago. Judith Paris as Eldrad was attractive and intriguing. I remember feeling shocked and disappointed when Eldrad fully reemerged as some ugly obstreperous bloke.
I mentioned it on another clip but these clips must have been upscalled as they are amazingly clear for 45 year old video. It's 'almost' hd quality with some shots much better and clearer than others. I'd happily buy these old episodes if they look this clear on the bluray.
they do on the dvds too. I should know theyre all sitting on my shelf!
Amazing love doctor who
My favorite Dr.
Eldrad casts mind war
0:38 hundreds of years later Mels just shoots the console
Yes, well... nobody's perfect
The onboard defence systems have to be switched on manually. Most likely the Doctor forgets to do that considering the number of times weaponry is fired in the TARDIS
Looks almost like a Borg Queen.
Thought I'd check first and you beat me to it. 🤣 maybe it influenced the designer of Borg queen
Oh yeah....
In times like these during the pandemic Tom Baker is the best medicine you could have. Whenever I feel sad I think of him and he makes me laugh
Sarah Jane's last story 😥
For me that is the only ... Doctor :)
A touch of HR Giger to the female Eldrad. It's weird to me how people complain about "trendy politics" in Doctor Who now but here we have a character flip gender practically unremarked many decades ago.
I really want to have that console.
Judith Parris is the actress who played female Eldrad.
For a second I felt the tardis sounded like an elephant 😂
way cool still big fan.
"Is that Kastria?"
"It is."
"It's very nice." 😂
0:29 she said "Oh, well this should be easy!"
🙊
At 3:13, is that the same Dome that was used in Genesis of the Daleks?
Ahhh.....my favorite outfit, of my favorite companion.😎😎
I was in my late teens when I seen this episode for the first time (circa '79 or '80).
I had such a crush on Sarah Jane!!😁😁
She was my kind of gal! Short; petite; brunette; intelligent; feisty.
I had no idea, at the time, how old Sarah Jane/Elisabeth Sladen was.
And it always surprised me, that...in this, her final episode/story with T. Baker...to me, she actually appeared to be YOUNGER than when she began on the show, with J. Pertwee.🤯
She always looked amazing for her age, she’s 30 here but in certain shots she actually looks about 18/19, even when she came back to Doctor Who and started the SJA she was nearly 60 but never looked it… she still did all the running around too, it’s crazy.
@@artron6833 👍
A Sci Fi Classic Doctor Who Soap.
Good and different tardis controls
This is one of the best of all the dr who season, I actually think the female version of Eldrad is hot, not so keen about the actual form of Eldrad however.
Guys, what is the best free place to find Classic Who episodes when u don't live in the UK? (I would buy the Blu-Ray, but they are only available online where they are very expensive)

Maybe Dailymotion?
Anybody notice that the one Doctor not being used to promote subscribing to BBC clips like this is Jodie ?
A shame later production teams stopped using the temporal grace inside the TARDIS
Well like many other things in the TARDIS is broke.
Evil and cute my kind of villain, way better looking than the King of Nothing version. lol
Ah back when the doctor spent as much time off earth as on it :)
The doctor being Earthbound hasn’t really been a thing since series 5. It was only really the RTD era that had an abundance of Earth stories
That place looks crappier than Cleveland in February :(.
Those numbers aren't the BBC office phone number again Tom told that story before.
0:37 moffat just walks all over this in "let's kill Hitler" when the tardis gets shot
Actually the temporal grace thing got forgotten about in the classic series as well. The Sontarans invade it in the season immediately after this and full blown gunfights happen inside of it during Earthshock.
eldrad
i think the secondary control room is super confusing
Luckily the panels warped when the set was put away between seasons and they went back to normal.
"Oh, just punch up 7438000W8I12127272911E8EX4111309115, and then see what happens."
If weapons didn't work in the TARDIS, then how were the cybermen able to fire theirs in earthshock?
👏👏👏👏👏👏
🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Bravo!!!
(I can't help myself)
Doesnt the 11th doctor tell river song that they are in a state of temporal grace and she shoots the console
They pretty much dropped the whole temporal grace thing by the time of the fifth doctor era. However the Master had to switch on the temporal grace in his TARDIS manually in the audios so I guess the Doctor just keeps forgetting to turn it on
I like #4
Cool 😎👍💙⭐️🤩👏😎
Yup, the 4th Doctor is the best doctor of all!! The last one suck!!
If Eldrad got coordinates wrong, there be no chance of Tardis landing Anywhere, ever, ever, ever...

"I will reclaim it again"? 🤨 was there a previous time she reclaimed it?
yes, the backstory had eldrad build special barriers to protect the planet. then destroyed them as revenge after the failure of a bid to take over.
