variations have been mixed up in the edit. Reason why i shouldnt post at 9pm i guess 😅 there is an error in the final position obviously the c pawn can grab the knight. The solution was to capture both pawns c5 and c4 before heading for the b3 square with your knight. Sorry about this guys!

10:00 Uhh, you got too greedy. That’s not checkmate. There was a pawn protecting the rook. You can even see the eval bar swing entirely from mate in 5 for white, to like mate in 6 for black.

Simple to explain in 10 seconds: You must take c5 and c4 pawns (to leave Rb3 unprotected) after the good choice h2-h3 and knight promotion to force queen to move to same color square each time knight moves (Na5 must force Qa1). Then you deliver mate with Nxb3.

What can you do with a queen? You can take the pawn on c5, then c4, then rook on b3 (when queen is on a1), then queen on b2. Problem is, the pawn moves to b3, which frees the bishop into a potential checkmate threat. This can be stopped by the queen, but then you won't be able to keep the knight on b1 from moving, and then the pawn on b2 will promote.
White: "Yes! Checkmate ggs"
Black: *takes the knight with the C4 pawn*
White: "Wait he can do that?!"

The king should go to f3 and then the only move to do is the pawn promoting into anything at the King takes and then the qeen i forced to go back to a1 and deliver checkmate

But it'll take some more moves to checkmate as you have to get rid of the c4 pawn.... Otherwise it will take the horse
and its ok if white king moves but black promotes with e2 then king takes and guards the d file, if black pushes the pawn it still blocks the king from escaping

Pushing the pawn up 2 is objectively the better move as it leads to a forced mate in 15 moves no matter what unless you blunder as white. Simply put, I found a checkmate in 15 moves that not even stockfish can escape. Plus since I, someone who's rated 400 elo saw this pretty easily, I'm fairly confined that it is the easier path to follow and see. This is probably one of the easiest puzzles I've ever seen on chess.

what about on 4:00 if you move your king they would have 2 moves: either promote the pawn and then you take and then they have to move their queen and it’s checkmate after you take the rook or they can move the queen and taking the rook is checkmate
By doing that, you open up the rook and the bishop.

Basically, this is a problem about parity. After the pawn's first move, that piece (whether as a pawn or a knight) has to change parity (as indicated by the colour of the square it lands on). Similarly, as the queen simply shuffles between a1 and a2, it changes parity every move. Now, as the knight needs to capture the rook on a light square when the queen is on a1, the same must be for whenever the pawn or knight lands on a white square. Hence, the initial pawn move must be 2. h3!!, not 2. h4??

The only king move available would be Kf2, but now you just let the dogs out...the e2 pawn promotes with discovered check, which in turn frees the d2 rook and eventually the knight and light bishop. White is bound to lose assuming Black doesn't blunder stalemate.

The correct way to win is after you take the c5 pawn you wither go to e4 or d7 and hop on to
e5 or d6 and then you take the pawn on c4 now black plays Qa2 cause that's all they can do and then we play Na5 and after Qa1 we play Nxb3 and that is mate

I think you can make a queen. Take C5 then C4. Stall on diagonal till the queen is on a dark square. Then take the rook. Queen has to move to D2. Take the queen. They still have legal moves with their bishop now after pawn to B3 which they have to do first. So capture on B3 once it moves. Queen can take C3 so bishop has to defend the pawn on B4, then takes bishop if they don't you have to chase the bishop of the diagonal and it's mate takes on D2. Knight B3 can only cover the rook on C4 so takes when the move to C4. Then make a queen, move the king. That's as close as I can get because the checkmate on D2 is lost as it's two tempos on the white diagonal. Maybe someone else can work it out who's better than me I'm only 960 🤭
