  • Charl’s story started in October 2020, and at the age of 31, she was diagnosed with Stage 3C, Grade 3 Cervical Cancer. This meant that Charl’s cancer was aggressive and surgeons decided they weren’t able to operate because it had spread into her lymph nodes. BUT, it was treatable and a treatment plan was put into place with an intent to cure the cancer and save Charl’s life.
Charl completed 25 gruelling sessions of radiotherapy, 4 sessions of chemotherapy and 3 sessions of brachytherapy - all during the pandemic and whilst actually having coronavirus herself. Charl attended the majority of her appointments alone because of the lockdown rules. Her friends & family, we were so proud of her & were all looking forward to celebrating when she was supposed to be getting the all clear in May. Instead, they received some tragic news.
On the 16th April 2021, Charl was told the devastating news that her cancer had spread to her hip. This now means she has secondary bone cancer, sometimes known as metastasis and her cancer was regraded at stage 4B - the worst stage there is. On the 19th April 2021, Charl’s oncologist told her that without treatment Charl was given less than 6 month to live, but if she goes through major surgery to replace her hip and 18 weeks of chemotherapy which will see her lose her hair, then her prognosis will be on average 18-24 months. Charl’s oncologist has put a treatment plan in place to pro-long Charl’s life, but her cancer will never be cured.
Over the last 7 months, Charl’s life has drastically become a lot different, yet she is still the most positive person.
She has a GoFund me page to raise money for new treatment to try and extend her time with family and friends www.gofundme.c...
Charl has been sharing her story on social media to raise awareness of Cervical Cancer, its signs & symptoms and the importance of smear tests. She has reminded and helped so many ladies so far, and the feedback she has received has been overwhelming. She hopes she can continue to help ladies in the future with gynaecology health issues. She really is a true inspiration.
