Brad, she WAS cheated on. Her husband was Mutt Lange, the famous producer who also produced the huge hit albums by Def Leppard & AC/DC etc. He cheated with Shania's personal assistant (not at all as pretty as Shania). Believe it or not, Shania & the assistant divorced their men, and Shania is now married to her assistant's ex-husband!

"You're Still The One" is Shania's biggest hit. It won two Grammys. If you're looking for another entertaining video of Shania's to watch, I'd recommend "I'm Gonna Getcha Good" with her in a catsuit zipping around on a futuristic motorcycle in a video game type scenario. ("Green version" is more country sounding, "Red version" is more pop sounding). Catchy song.

Shania has the best selling album by any female artist in any genre. She had 3 Diamond certified albums in a row, that's just insane. You have a lot more great songs from her to dive into.

@@L3M0N4NDCH3RRYZZ I am late to this but yes, it's Come On Over (top selling female album at 40 million sold), then The Woman In Me (20 million), and then Up! (11 million). To be fair Shania released Come On Over in 1997. And then a year later I believe it was ... she released Come On Over INTERNATIONAL VERSION so technically some fans were buying the CD twice. ... 40 million (two CDs) TECHNICALLY they should be counted as two albums, not one... To avoid that in the future Shania made sure UP! had the country and international version (red and green).. both versions in one CD case

This album is the first collaboration of Shania and Mutt Lange. The sound is not traditional country at all, it's a far more pop sound, which was being call "New Country" at the time. She is being cheeky and fun with the song and video. The song and title is actual poking a little fun at traditional country or "crying music", as it was so called back in the days of our parents in the 60s/70s. As far as Canadian Country Music, one Shania's idols is Myrna Lorrie who is the first Lady of Canadian Country Music (there are live performances on youtube of Myrna). When she was younger, Myrna would let Shania take her stage during matinee's (which were are Saturday & Sunday afternoons), when is was playing in Timmins, Ontario (which is where she was living at the time). She was part of a couple of local rock bands in her teens and early 20s (Longshot & Flirt). In 1987 her mother and husband Jerry Twain were killed in a logging accident. She took a job at a resort in Hunstville, Ontario. To support her younger step-brothers, and focused on a solo career. She was able to secure a Nashville contract when she returned to her Counrty roots. Any Man of Mine, If You're Not In It For Love, You Win My Love, Nobody Needs to Know, where the song from this album "The Woman In Me", that hit #1 on the US Country charts, the first 2 releases were minor cross over hits, hitting the top 40, but not as big as what was to come.

Great review. Also, many country and folk rock stars from Canada over the years, decades. Colter Wall, KD Lang, Jess Moskaluke, Terri Clark, Paul Brandt, George Fox, etc. Especially from the Rocky Mountains provinces like Saskatchewan and Alberta. Those are near US Rocky Mountain states like Montana and Wyoming. These are cowboy, ranchers, rodeo, wildlife areas. Country Western and folk rock is and has been big in those regions.

Nice reaction---it's nice to see Brad smile; he's always so stoic while a video is playing. It amazes me how he can sit so still, and not bee-bop, while a song is playing---whereas Lex can't sit still, and always finds so much joy, when listening.

It doesn't fit the US image of Canada yet this culture is deeply imbedded into the fabric of rural Canada. In the Maritimes (just above New England) you'll have artists like Stompin' Tom Conners, Hank Snow, and George Canyon but there's also a Celtic influence there so you'd get some that incorporate the fiddle. Out west (Alberta, Saskatchewan) you'll have full on cowboy/ranching culture and artists like Paul Brandt and KD Lang. There's also the Calgary Stampede, world's biggest rodeo. Then there's rural Ontario (Shania Twain).

There was a brief period in the 90's where a more pop and rock influenced style of country dominated the charts and its two biggest stars were probably Shania Twain and Garth Brooks. I don't even think it's possible to adequately convey just how massive that country boom was and how well the top artists like Shania sold. 3 consecutive Diamond selling albums in an era without digital streaming. Shania's "Come On Over" album is the 8th fastest to go Diamond in history. There are old school country fans that didn't care for the more modernized sound, but there was absolutely no debate that the music was catchy.

The province of Alberta is the Texas of Canada, ranches, cowboys, cattle, oil rigs and the world famous Calgary Stampede, a super sized rodeo and then some. There are a lot of Canadian country and western singers. Try some Blue Rodeo, they have some great songs.

Northern Ontario Canada where The city of Timmins is and where she is from listens to country music. Yes it’s cold in the winter like minus 35 degrees Celsius.

She burst onto the country scene in the 90’s and people took notice in a hurry. Super talented and super hot too. She has a pretty amazing life story too. Her parents were killed in a car crash in 1987 and she raised her younger siblings all while working towards what you see here.

I recommend Highway 101, "The Bed You Made For Me".
Paulette Carlson was the lead singer and later went solo.

There was a big deal about her and the producer marrying and then a huge divorce. From what I remember HE cheated on HER, and she brought charges against him for infidelity. What a dumbass! Although she could have been one of those Amber freaks.

My friend loved her, which was so strange to me at the time as he was more of a Metalica guy. But he insisted she was great, he was right BTW. When he bought his very first car, which was a total beater, he named her Shania. I said "Why on earth did you name this butt ugly car after such a beautiful women?", with out missing a beat he said "She has great headlights", I friggen died!

Country music is largely descended from British folk music and Southern Whites and Canadians are mostly of British stock, so it makes sense that they have their own version of country music.

I came to a realization while watching your reaction. So you know how in country songs, men sing about getting drunk, trucks, America, and their momma's? Women sing about getting cheated on. Sometimes the songs are happy, sometimes they're sad, but the subject (mostly) stays the same. By the way, this is a fun one to line dance to if that's your thing. Any Man of Mine is too.
