Perfect Golf Swing Takeaway Drill: Key to an EASY GOLF SWING
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 4 окт 2024
- The Perfect Golf Swing Takeaway Drill - Danny Maude helped a number of his online students create an easy effortless golf swing by making a simple change to their golf takeaway
The purpose of a great backswing drill is to put you in a position at the top of the golf swing that makes it super easy to come down at strike the golf ball.
He realises that no golf video will improve everything in your golf swing but getting the first 2 feet right increases the likelihood that you will arrive at the top of your backswing in a great position. From here it will be much easier to make an effortless move towards the golf ball.
Hope it helps. Ive attached a full practice plan below plus some additional golf videos that I think will really compliment this one

ABOUT DANNY
-----------------------
Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!
I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.
On RUclips and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.
Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble
I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

I hope these simple golf tips can help you create an effortless golf swing
Hope you enjoy
I’ve had several coaches, and tips given over last few years. I’ve always rolled the club and could never stop. The “thumbs up” is something I know have as my only swing thought, and my game is better than ever. My favourite video 👍🏻🙏
That’s great Andrew, all the best for 2021
Great tip. Makes total sense.
Hope it helps Darrel
Awesome. I can feel my.shoulders being stretched right to 90 degrees!
That’s great Lester, let me know how it goes on the golf course
@@DanielMaude Question. I have always been an early wrist set guy. Any thoughts? Thanks a lot.😀
APPRECIATE YOUR THINKING. Clear understanding and easy way to practice. Thank you. from Korea
@luckyguykorea960 thank you so much. Really pleased you enjoyed my video 🙏🏻
Danny... this is the one that finally made it all click for me. I can't thank you enough.
My pleasure Chris, hope it helps your golf swing
Super instruction, easy to follow and one of the best tips to transform 90% of golfers.
Thank you Tom
Danny,
these are brilliant tips and drills which are perfect for me. Thank you.
Again one of many excellent lessons by in my opinion the best online golf instructor... Danny the problem I always struggle with is initiating the downswing. Sooner or later in my golf swing I always fight coming over the top to where it becomes so bad I start shanking the ball particularly with short irons. It’s like a virus 😁😁
Brilliant! Thanks Danny
Glad you liked it!
As ever, some of the best videos on the fundamentals of golf. Whenever I start getting slightly out of sync I come back to your crisp clear instruction…
Thanks for the support 👍🤜🏻
Very nice Danny! Well explained.
Thank you Andrew, all the very best
Thanks for this...I had a lesson where I was taught exactly this. Its good to see it again to re-jog my memory
All the best Josh
Very much what I need to hear and see Danny. Thank you.
My pleasure! Hope you are having a great weekend
Excellent video. Brilliant practical tips to work on this issue. Like that it can be done in the living room as well given current circumstances.
Absolutely! Thanks for watching
You sir, are a rock star!!! Thanks!! This is what I meant by a body swing.
Thanks for all the support Bill
Changed my game drastically. Brilliant and simple
That’s great Magesh, thanks for sharing
Thank you, thank you, thank you 😊
Danny you are the best... I use to shoot in the 80s consistently in my late 20s early 30s then I got married bought a house and playing was not a priority...after my life settled I started playing again only to find out I completely lost my swing... Took lessons and was just about to put the clubs away for good until I found your videos a little over 2 years ago... I now shoot in the 90s much more consistently... And trending in the right direction.. my goal next year is to break 90. I accidentally figured out this this drill on my own by putting several videos of yours together... The only difference is I put my hands together no club and move my shoulder and hips together. This drill is spot to improve takeaways... Which IMHO is the single most thing after the grip. Thanks again mate.
You are very welcome John, thanks for being part of this community for so long
Great job again. My go to swing thought I’d like to share with you is pretending there’s two eyes drawn on the clubface and they’re staring at the back of the ball at address. As the club goes back in the takeaway, just keep those eyes staring at the back of the ball for as long as possible. I do this for every club in the bag and it really helps.
Cheers Danny, and just had to share with you that in 30 years of golfing this has been my best year yet thanks to you.
Really love this, never come across this before
Awesome, straight talking, simple to understand instruction. During lockdown you debunked rotation myth for me, massive. Realising it was simply a backwards & forwards motion was an epiphany.
Today, the watch face moment has, I am convinced, cured my slice? The tendency to come over the top, or across the ball to correct my rolling the wrists on my takeaway. Something which, until you demonstrated the watch face pointing toward the ceiling, I wasn't aware I was doing.
Bring it on Danny, utterly brilliant stuff.
Amazing to hear Tim, so pleased the golf lessons are helping
@@DanielMaude I hope I'm am right to think that eliminating club face roll is going to eliminate the slice? I was breaking my wrists early on the takeaway this was causing my wrists to roll away. I've stopped breaking the wrists is that ok?
Just been for 9 holes after watching this? Just what I needed? An early excellent Xmas prezzie! So effective! Wishing you and yours a crackin” Xmas and a busy peaceful 2023.
And you Des, thanks for your support this year
Perfect explanation
Thank you
This is my biggest golf flaw. I've spent a lot of money on lessons and not one of the coaches have pointed this out. Thanks Danny
Same here, man. I think the coaches knew this too
Danny I first started watching your channel about 2 years ago when I watched your video on take away. It helped so much but often in golf you can creep back into old ways but your video and the thumb into your sternum is a brilliant drill to keep my takeaway on form. Thanks
My pleasure David, thanks for supporting the channel for so long 👊🏻
You make it sound so easy and it is, but i think it will take me some time to get the hang of it. I'm sure it will be worth it.
Just got this video Danny. Great lesson, to the point and easy to follow.
This is the most simple explanation of the takeaway and how face control can be compromised by rolling the wrists
Hope it helps 😁
@@DanielMaude certainly hope so 🤞👍
I’ve watched this video a few times now and think it’s one of the best ones to not only be more consistent but too also hit the ball properly and straighter.
Really hope so Rob, thank you for the feedback
Danny...superb tips...👍🏻
Thank you very much for taking the time to comment
Excellent distillation of the take away move. Made total sense and I’ll use it today on my driver swing. That’s where my inconsistency lays.
Thank you!
My pleasure Jim, much appreciated
Danny, to me you are the best instructor on the internet.
I would like to know your thoughts, and subsequent possible instruction, for 67 year olds like me who have been athletic all their lives, and need a full left knee replacement for a right handed golfer. What I've read is the stress on the replacement knee is unmanageable. Right now I lift my left heel on take away for rotation, and do the 'one, .. and two' on the follow through. I still drive over 250 yards, and without golf, well. Keep the bone on bone knee, or ..
Steve from Florida
HI there, I coach many who have had knee replacements and they all seem absolutely fine, in fact better than ever as they can now put pressure on the knee without the pain. Im no expert however, I don't know whether there are different forms of knee injuries that would require different treatment
My game improved with a left knee replacement. Had it 14 years ago, I’m 79 now and breaking my age 90% of the time. You will wish you had done it sooner
Straight forward and clearly explained thumbs up !!
Really kind George
Hi Danny. Once again a brilliant video.. thank you! Have always suffered from a flat shoulder backswing but this drill really helps with the correct pivot.. Will work hard on this. At 73 yrs of age I'm out to prove you Can teach an old dog new tricks!
Absolutely Tony, as I say to many of my more experienced students you now have the time to become great
It’s really paying attention to the simple things and really hammering these fundamentals and committing to muscle memory
Absolutely Lance
Really nice demonstration of the drills needed for a proper take away. I plan on doing this drill all winter. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Enjoy your practice
I live in Canada 🇨🇦, this weekend is my last round. I’ve religiously watched, and put to practice your teachings. I started out this year in the hundreds, most of my work pals didn’t want to golf with me, because I was always lagging.
Thanks to your expert advice I shoot the 80s consistently.. and everyone wants to play with me now.
Thanks Danny. Looking forward to next season, and doing your drills all winter long.
enjoy Liu, thanks for getting in touch
Ditto to that as well... your videos has improved my game 10 folds!! It pretty much the only ones I I watch now
@@waynelcross thanks so much guys for the support
Just entered 6 week lockdown here in Ireland, so no golf, why I don’t know, the experts predicted a 2nd wave anyway. Haven’t heard of 1 infection from playing on the course all year. Actually does anyone know anyone who said that they got a flu from playing golf over the last 20 years. Anyway Liu best tip of many from Danny is “down and around “. Has worked brilliantly for me. Now I can’t tell you exactly which video that was but hitting crisp iron shots is a clue.
Danny easy swing...great..and the hips move right and left easy. THANKS
Pleasure Hector, all the best
Good stuff Danny 👏
Thank you Hugh, hope you are well
Awesome Danny. Learning a lot from you. I did not have this teaching when I started hitting plastic golf balls as a child. Wish you had been my coach
Your best video for tips yet, and so simple, it's amazing how we forget the simple things
Love the way you first explain, give drills, and most importantly, give us common faults to be aware of when doing the drills. So important when trying to learn remotely. Thank you for all you do Danny.
Game changer. It makes me feel like I am taking the club away outside the line. Like pushing my left shoulder forward and to the right. It is having the courage and focus to take this to the course.
Absolutely Gordon 👊🏻
Another great video & a very helpful practice plan .Many thanks.
That is why your subscribers keep increasing.
So nice of you Alan, really happy to help
Having been away from the game for some time after my folks passed, I recently rediscovered an enjoyment to go play. In looking for help that was easy to understand and use, I came across Danny and his channel. Using this lesson and hip rotation lesson, I found simple visuals that helped me so much. I’m not looking to be a pro, but just to enjoy a round even with faults. Theses two lessons helped me achieve that recently on a round with a friend who kindly noted how well I was striking the ball. Thank you Danny for helping me and making the golf swing easy to understand and practice.
You are so welcome Kirk, thanks for taking the time to let me know how you’ve been getting on…means a lot
Hi Danny, brilliant like always, easy to understand and to duplicate...your explanations opens a complete new golf swing philosophy, thank you...Heiner from Germany
Happy to help Heiner, really appreciate the support
I'm fairly new to golf, like 2 months new haha. I never noticed that I roll my wrists before watching this vid xD love your vids
Thats great, welcome to the game Ustin, hope you enjoy it as much as I do
Some of this advice gives me chills. 😄 makes perfect sense
Hope it helps

I never realized I did this till today at a iron fitting and it was shocking! These tips feel so simple but so effective!
That’s great Craig, happy to help
I am 80, have just recovered from a shoulder replacement and returned to golf after 5 years away. Having forgotten everything, poor golf swing included, I decided it was a good time to learn to do it correctly. Thanks to your instruction, I am now hitting the ball farther (225/230 off the tee) and more consistently than ever. Thank you.
Thats brilliant Ronald.Thanks for sharing
Great video, I’m clearly going too far in my backswing and my arms are disconnecting from by body and are no longer coordinated. I look forward to trying this at the golf simulator this weekend!
This I like great practice tip . Thanks for posting .
My pleasure Patrick, hope it helps your backswing
I'm grounded by this virus. It looks like il have to keep practicing in the back yard until the new year . Cheers Danny .
This is perhaps the best single tip (OK, two tips!) for novice and not so novice struggling golfers I have ever seen. Always very clearly explained with straightforward, simple steps. I like the metaphor of the dominoes. This is really a crucial first step. Thanks, Danny!! Now, I just have to put it into practice!
Great Tuition, Makes it very simple and so informative. Thanks Danny
My pleasure Gary, all the best
Perfect
Lightbulb moment. Thanks Danny Maude
The attention to detail in this video is amazing! Extremely helpful! Thank you for this
My pleasure Coby, hope it helps
I love the part when you say don’t cheat by using your arms. Sometimes I think that power comes from how far the club goes back. Once again, Danny, you are spot on and you explain it so well. Thank you for a great lesson!
My pleasure Lance, really happy the golf lesson resonated with you
That’s exactly what I’ve been doing WOW WOW ! Cannot wait to practise and then take it out to the course many many thanks, your my joint favourite u tuber . You and Liam are fab !!!
Thanks for the support Andrew, Love Liams channel
Excellent advice there Danny
Thanks Danny. You do a fantastic job of teaching the feeling and sensation of how to hit the golf ball.
Thank you Anthony, really appreciate it
The best lesson I’ve seen on backswing coordination. Tend to be armsy with little body motion. Thanks Danny for all the fabulous lessons you provide!
Pleasure Gonzalo! Happy to help 👍
I've watched a few you tube golfers but I seem to get your vids much more useful - massive help!
This channel has given me the most reliable tips with my gold game. Keep up the great work.
Thank you Gregory, so good to hear
@@DanielMaude I'm going to keep recommending your content to anyone who needs it. Any vids on how to make consistent contact on downhill/uphill lies?
@@gregorycampbell9386 not yet, but I had planned on filming it before lockdown.
@@DanielMaude OK great ill be on the look out for that.
Enjoy 👍
Totally agree with you!! It took me hours of practice to correct my take away so It moves with my body.
Absolutely Ross, hope you are well 👊🏻
Great video ... the easiest to follow instructional channel on youtube. Thanks Danny!
Very kind Jay, really hope it helps
Great video danny!
Thank you Johnny, all the best
Excellent video, you keep things simplistic and realistic for us amateur golfers.
Much appreciated John
Since I retired a little over a year ago, I've struggled with hand position and wrist action. I've watched videos about supination and rolling the forearms, videos about holding lag, and videos about cocking wrists. The only results I've gotten are confusion and too many swing thoughts. Thank you, again, Danny for simplifying the swing, clarifying the use of the wrists and arms, and putting me back on the right track.
My pleasure Bob, have a great week
Excellent lesson, thank you
Really useful. I think this is the core of my issues on consistency.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for commenting Ian
Danny, your videos are the best video teaching aids out there. So clear and simply explained, with visualizations and ways of feeling that work. THANKS!
hi Danny, after so long not knowing what went wrong, your videos helped me to finally get control in my backswing! thank you sooo much for making golf way more fun. it was a bit of a struggle to get those wrong moves out but it helped 300% with my consistency! For me personally, you're the best teacher I've had! Greetings from the Netherlands
What a lesson Danny love them you make it so easy for us amateurs to go on the range or the course and put it in action and I thank you for that 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
It;'s my pleasure Gary, really happy to help
Thanks for the great video and drills. Hopefully your next video will describe the next step in the swing, the transition and downswing.
Great tips Danny. Best I've seen the takeaway explained. 👍👍
Thank you Noel, really happy to help
Hi Danny, I switched to right-handed golf last season and have been struggling with my swing. After watching and practicing this drill and took it to the golf course yesterday I can't believe the improvement!! I added 30 to 40 yards to my drive and so easy to remember.
Thanks for keeping things simple. My golfing partners were shocked by the improvement and asked what did I do. I told them about you and your simplistic approach. Again, well done! Can't wait to get out again this week and play.
Peter from Ottawa, Canada
You are very welcome Peter, thanks for the feedback, we are heading back into lockdown here
Danny great video as usual. I get what you are saying in this instruction. What I wish you could go into detail in the next part from where you left off here. The hinging and folding off arm and writs to get the club on plane behind you. I feel like I can do what you are doing here but then I roll the club from there to get the club to the top of the backswing.
Yeah! I now understang what I’m doing wrong and with this video how to improve my swing, too sad that in Quebec, the season is almost over. Fan forever, 🙏
Thanks Danny Seem to have a permanent problem with rolling the hands at the start Will give it a try 👍
Let me know how you get on
Super, Danny, must practice now!
Enjoy your practice
What a simple method great stuff dan
Glad you enjoyed it Gary, thanks for letting me know
Pure gold!
Hope it helps GK
Danny, I played on Friday and know I was rolling my hands. Too many low trajectory shots with big draws or hooks.. Then, as I got frustrated, was swinging too hard and smothering the ball. I needed this reminder. Thank you! You are the best out there by far.
That’s really kind Erik, thanks so much
Thanks Dan, you are the man
Really kind Stephen, really happy to help
Danny, I like the simple drills, has helped big time, thanks. Mike
My pleasure Mike, all the best
Great tip the right fingers on the left arm Danny it's one I've not seen before. Look forward to your Saturday tips keep them coming cheers
Will do Dave, have a great weekend
I too can say kudos! This tip and the thumbs up tip haz improved the consistency of my swing probably 80%,
Excellent drill...going to practice this today indoors as weather is foul.

@@DanielMaude After videoing my swing I noticed I was rolling my wrists as in your diagram No3. This drill has changed a massive fault! Keep up the great work Danny 👍
Yes, my back swing has gone too flat again. So good, your video arrived in perfect time.
This golf drill should really help. Just make sure you get the tilt in the shoulders too
Top video and tips, Danny. I just need the Barnsley weather to pick up a bit now so I can get out on the grass.
Keep safe everyone.
Dan
Never disappoint danny always make good points
Thanks for all the support Andrew
Great video Danny. Just played a very wet 10 holes - apart from a lost ball on the 7th I played bogey golf. Now that, for me, is a massive step forward ...... cheers ..... 😃 And 5 up after 10 against Catherine is unheard of 🤣
Amazing! So good to hear well done buddy
Really liked this easy to follow explanation and the drills👍
Thanks for getting in touch Jennifer, appreciate the feedback
Your takeaway videos have literally transformed my game. I watched the one you did before this and used it and it just clicked for me. My driver slice was fixed and irons are very consistent now. I can keep my club face square now, amazing. Thank you. Keep up these tips.

Danny, another great video! Can you do a video on the next step of the swing when you actually do the wrist hinge and take it back. I really struggle with this.
Many thanks
