It's just classic, clever comedy. Not only is it a clever satire of self-righteous folk music, it's very physical as well. Hugh sells it so well! He manages to convey confusion, sheepishness and guilt all in one skit. He even looks relieved when he gets the last "vodka and lime" bit out.
Julz XD phaww I’m right there with you sister, he’s absolutely gorgeous and has that little boy lost look about him that women go week at the knees for, he brings out the mother nurturing nature in us that we need to love and protect
I love his comedic songs because of their ironic (but undoubtedly deliberate) depth. This song for example. The idea is that we have no clear solution to the challenges before us.
I don't think that's what he's saying. I think it is more a jab at those people who protest obvious stuff, but don't actually have any ideas or do anything about the problems
For me it's about people not always seeing how complex problems can be, they will often give glib advice, but if you really look into root causes of problems you will often see they have multiple reasons for which there often isn't an easy solution to.
You are reading way too far into this. He's just taking the piss out of celebrities that use problems in the world to cash in, but don't really have any idea what they're talking about.
The multi-talented Hugh Laurie is greatness . I am Canadian by the way, and I have followed his career since his " Blackadder" and "Blackadder goes Forth" days. I enjoy "House" and " A bit of Fry and Laurie", but I think my favorite Hugh Laurie program was another series he did with Stephen Fry, in the early 90's it was called "Wooster and Jeeves"
Don’t think it’s actually about Dylan. Because Dylan’s message and lyrics were so clear and thoughtful hence why he won the Nobel literature award. This is aimed at others who tried to ape Dylan but had nothing to say.
Hurragghhhh someone actually got the joke! Thank you Jcolinsol for pointing it out that the answer really isnt blowing in the wind! I am a Bob Dylan nut, have every record, but I can see the irony in what old House (as you Yanks cal him) is saying! Bravo! Never seen this before and I aint offended!
Correct, there a couple of songs that he has done from the British show "A Bit of Fry & Laurie" he's done live. Another one I can think of is Mystery in Inside the Actors Studio. Brilliant =)
ROFLMMFAO!!! I always knew Hugh Laurie was a talented actor and musician- but he's actually very funny too... Thank you Brits for sharing him with us Americans...
What is the faux Dylan song? It opens like Take a Load Off Fanny. It pulls a few rifts from Christopher Guest's Dylan "Positively Wall Street" (Lemings). The overall feel is reminiscent of Girl from the North County. Just a brilliant amalgam.
I was never a Hugh Laurie fan untill I saw "House". And to be honest for 5 years I ignored the show House because I thought it was gonna be stupid. Well sitting home one night I caught the show on syndication and I've been hooked ever since. Now it is one of my favs. I remember seeing the commercials for House and thinking his Name House was some play on words like he was an hotel doctor so I said "this is dumb". I will never judge a show before watching it again.
Since the first time I heard it, I always followed his advice.
Changed my life.
KingAlpaca haha excellent! Glad it worked lol
Never heard it...... Until now!
The lyrics are so deep.
What a way to spend an afternoon, watching endless amounts of Fry & Laurie.
Stacy Harris indeed and they’re not bad to look at either, British comedy at it’s very best
@Stacy Harris especially now, lol
Huzzah
still stands true after 9 years.
Oh boy, is there an unpleasant surprise for you at the end of season 4 😞
Comedic genius aside - Hugh is a kickass of a musician ... self-taught as legend has it
It's just classic, clever comedy. Not only is it a clever satire of self-righteous folk music, it's very physical as well. Hugh sells it so well! He manages to convey confusion, sheepishness and guilt all in one skit. He even looks relieved when he gets the last "vodka and lime" bit out.
This wouldn't have been nearly as funny without his facial expressions. Sign of a good comedic actor. Or rather, a good actor, for that matter.
AdobeExcel An amazing versatile actor, singer and comedian. He writes and composes his music. He's got a real sexiness about him ol Hugh Laurie xxxx
Julz XD phaww I’m right there with you sister, he’s absolutely gorgeous and has that little boy lost look about him that women go week at the knees for, he brings out the mother nurturing nature in us that we need to love and protect
Mel Brooks said that good comedy needs good acting. Even if a joke is lousy, if you commit with the acting it can make it funny.
Love his mock-serious delivery!
He is so timeless and brilliant - multifaceted talent.
if only we had followed this advice all those years ago, we wouldn't be in this mess right now
😆😆😆😆👍🏻
mmhhmmh
This comment will still be relevant 20 years from now
This is the guy who has all the answers. 😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
He is amazing, every day I discover new traits of his talent. I would be absolutely happy to see his performance in live. That’s my dream.
I love his comedic songs because of their ironic (but undoubtedly deliberate) depth. This song for example. The idea is that we have no clear solution to the challenges before us.

Fluff Simpletons always try to break people and their ideals down to political partys...
You are reading way too far into this. He's just taking the piss out of celebrities that use problems in the world to cash in, but don't really have any idea what they're talking about.
At least artists had this amount of consciousness and humility
all weve got to do is (mumble mumble) right now! Truer words were never spoken lol
I find it quite profound that after all that build up he has nothing. Says something about the human condition.
@@RealityCheck6T9 can I ask what do you mean with "he has nothing"? Do you refer to Laurie or to someone/something else? Thanks!
@@ChiaraMorgan they mean after the build up of the song he don’t say any thing he just mumbles
0:43 - literally the most adorable moment ever😭

Wooster is the antidote for House 😆👍😃
Pretty sure it was called "And Jeeves Wooster"
*so* close... It was "Wooster Jeeves and"
One of his best songs. Pure genius. :)
he looks so pleased with himself at "caroline" xD
0:39 that little smile so cute
I wish they'd do something together again!
1:43 "We got to... *hemmnna*- time after time..."
The best part is 0:39 where he lets out that little smile. No matter how many times you rehearse, some things will always make you laugh.
Paul Hawkins I think that was intentional
@@yenee94 Yup. I agree. A proud smile.
@ 0:39 he couldn't even resist that smile
I don't think so...knowing Hugh,it must have been a part of the act,like he's actually into the song,lol!
Well the world is getting weary
And it wants to go to bed
Everybody’s dying
Except the ones that are already dead
And the sick keep coughing
Their flegm golden ejaculate
But it would be so beautiful
As a crown on a rat
This seriously cracks me the f*%ck up 😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Man, Hugh Laurie's funny, that mumbling captures Bob Dylan perfectly!
I saw a biography of Hugh Laurie and he is very smart and extremely funny! He is a very talented man!
As well as being funny it's actually a genuinely good song
As are all his compositions 😊
His advices helped me during this pandemic time.
lol
OMG! How prescient our Mr Laurie, who answered an internet query just like the internet would, long before the internet could answer queries! 😂
You go, Dr. House! The range of this man never ceases to amaze me.
I love that he can play the harmonica and guitar at the same time. I can't play either of them.
How can anyone NOT like this? I do feel pity for them...
Bob Dylan didn't like this.
+JakezZzu Did you ask Bob?
...and Tom Petty :)
lingonberrysquirrel Trolls with no sense of humor
It's tragic that 108 viewers will never understand the importance of hzzwzzzhuh!
"...vodka and lime."
Hugh is such a rare talent!
Hugh Laurie really has a lot of range as a performer
Why did I start laughing before he uttered a single word off the lyrics 🤣🤣😹
Because you’re awesome!
Truth be told, a lot of hit songs went through this phase before they were released.
brilliant :D
I love laurie in everything, its amazing that he can be such a great comedian and actor :)
Nice Bob Dylan parody
Neil Young too
Don’t think it’s actually about Dylan. Because Dylan’s message and lyrics were so clear and thoughtful hence why he won the Nobel literature award. This is aimed at others who tried to ape Dylan but had nothing to say.
And then Bob Dylan plagiarized cliff notes in his acceptance speech, which is one of the great trolls in history.
eljube0 All writers use other writers. I don’t think Dylan was a plagiarist and this is irrelevant to his noble prize.
@@MarlboroughBlenheim1 nobel worth´s nothing, this is a dylan parody, totally
Every time I had a rough day, I went here to had a good laugh. Thanks ❤
i love him!!! he's uber talented...and the lyrics are so funny hehehe
Man he is such an accomplished musician and actor.
Brilliance beyond words
They frequently get it wrong. Well done, regardless :).Love these shows - A Bit of Fry and Laurie, Wooster and Jeeves - classics!
hilarious! my 2 favourite artists :-D dylan and laurie :-))
i can watch him all day.
So cute❤️
Words to live by.
Hugh would have been a fantastic Dr Who but maybe he was too talented for that
I always wanted Emma Thompson as The Doctor.
This really is just a one-joke thing, the brilliance lies in how the delivery manages to sustain it for almost two minutes.
When he says "auhehuaee" i feel that
this is a hit.
What a great laugh! I love Hugh Laurie!!!!! So funny!!!! and good looking too!
he did this on snl awhile back, and it was fantastic.
I simply adore this man:)
Abidingly brilliant.
This is one yank who does remember him from Blackadder. Yes he has done alot before House-all of it damn good.
The answer is forty-two I believe...
42th like!!
He sings even better here than on Jeeves and Wooster!
Seriously, Hugh's got some serious talent.
This seems like a good anthem of the "now"
POV: you are listening this because you have to do it for a music lesson 😂
LOL this is actually a well-written song!
"We've got to...wuzzwizzum..."
xD
Sono italiano e capisco poco l inglese...ma sono piegato dalle risate! 😂😂😂😂
Everytime I see Hugh Laurie I think of House....I love him, he's one of my favorite actors.
>WHAT DO WE WANT?
"WE DON'T KNOW"
>WHEN DO WE WANT IT?
"NOW!"
The hillarious protest song ever. I can't stop laughing😂
Maybe this is the best one of Hugh and Laurie!
115 people disliked this solution for poverty and war. So ignorant.
Well he did point out that "politicians change but you're never gonna change that". And why not a dash of vodka and lime?
@@fredbloggs8369Politicians change but THEY'RE never gonna change that. But we can change it. With mmmm. (Somewhat late reply 😂)
bloody hell. layrie is a great musician. harmonica and guitar at the same time. :o

That is how I behave when I forget on podium
love this man!
I bought damn near spat out my coffee!!! 🤣🤣🤣
he's a good actor in house.
a bit of fry and laurie, though, is bloody genius.
Brilliant
That's funny as hell.
Wow, so inspirational! And he's right.. that's just so easy, everyone can do it! :D
