Hi Jonathan! Nice to see Endoor get a sturdier frame - but I wonder if you'll ever get that couch out from beneath it! Lol! It's so disappointing when you wait months and months for a model to arrive, only to find multiple issues with them when they finally show up! I have no faith in the quality control of any of the large manufacturers and have run into similar problems to yourself with multiple models! I've got several locos on pre-order that I hope I'll not regret purchasing! Thanks for the links back to my videos, I hope someone will find them useful! All the best, Ian.
Hi Ian, Yes I think the sofa is very much in there for "a while" - it'll definitely need some frame disassembly to get it out. Indeed, though with this Voyager I only had to wait a day for it to arrive from when I decided to buy it... but I guess I've been waiting for a new Voyager in general for years! I've formed the same conclusion about the overall quality - it's only since I've been making these videos I've found that many other people experience the same, and of course as I've collected more stock over time the chance that it's just bad luck get lower and lower. Me too - I've got a pretty long pre-order list between a few places! At least the retailers are good about returns, though this time Rails of Sheffield have said "one of our technicians will be in touch to discuss their findings and discuss the next steps". I've reiterated that I want a refund, not a fix - Royal Mail are collecting the parcel from me today, so we'll see what happens after that!
Hi Jonathan, I found removing the brake shoes from each of the bogies was the way to get the axles of the JHA hoppers to run freely. They are just pushed on so using a small 15:31 screwdriver I pushed them off from the top side of the bogie. The axle reamers you have ordered are to big to fit in the bogie so won't work ! Had to laugh at the Voyager issue. I bought a second hand one two years ago and was exactly the same as your new one. It took hours of running before it ran decently. The axles not having pin points run on the axle in the bogie and the fit is far to tight. Using a drill bit I enlarged the area in the bogie they fit in with success. The power car has run faultless so far but is as you say slower than expected. I do find the more you use it the quicker it goes. I think your expectations of Farish models are going to be dashed on the rocks. I have been critical of Dapol mostly but Farish are no better. I got so pissed off with one of their parcel vans jumping the rails for no good reason, stood on it in frustration. It's sister one has been faultless since. The truth is the manufacturers are not building quality products and quality control is missing, yet the prices have risen far more than inflation for no improvement in the product. Farish have actually made their class 60 a bad model with the latest improvements. Adding speaker has reduced it's weight so less pulling power and the motor is not good and runs slow, the older one without the DCC fitment which requires the decoder to be soldered in is by far the better model. You want a Dapol 56 for those JHA hoppers, handles them no problem and it is geared to run slower !
Hi Mark, Thanks for the useful info. I did actually experiment with removing the brake shoes, like you showed in your video, but it didn't make a difference on the bogeys that I tried, and on closer inspection I can see that there's a gap to the wheels even over a full rotation. It's something I'll be inspecting on each wheel of the next 3 wagons though, just in case. That's annoying about the reamer! It still hasn't arrived; I might try cutting it in half if necessary. Interesting about the Voyager fix. Yes, it's certainly becoming a regular experience for me to receive defective brand new items. At some point I might go back over every loco I've bought and do a tally of has-fault-or-not - I feel like it might be 50-50! Non-motorised rolling stock has been fine up until the JHAs (though I suppose Dapol HST dummy power cars are in that category - all 4 or 5 that I've had have had wheels rubbing against the body - seems to be an inherent problem) I'm happy with the class 60 though, even if this one does have less pulling power than its predecessors - if the rolling stock would just be so kind as to roll I think it's got enough strength, and I really like having the sound. I must admit I do find myself tempted to get a 56 - I like that shape (so am also tempted by various liveries of 47 and 57, but must exercise some restraint!)
@@endoorrailway Its Mark by the way ! Paul is the Leprechaun from Wickford 😱 ! The axles move sideways which makes them bind as they roll. Only had one issue with a HST which I shout about in an earlier video, the F.A.G livery version
Sorry! No idea why I did that. Glad I got it right in the video itself!! I've edited that blunder out of history on the reply. Don't get me started on the "fag packet" livery - that's one of the worst representations of a livery I've ever seen. I'll have to find that video of yours
Well you've cheered me up re the class 220. My model is in the post and the way to me. I already have the virgin liveried version and yes it's a slow runner - so looks as though i have another slow coach. As Mr Ireland commented - the power car runs faster the longer it runs. Spot on re the price. Ah well looks like a fair degree of tinkering with a brand new model is in the offing😮. Cheers Euan
@@endoorrailway Well mine arrived today. It runs faster than my other Virgin liveried one. I've replaced the draw bars with Hunt Magnetic ones which give close coupling. Next job will be to get the coach wheels to run more freely !
At least there's one improvement there over the others! Hopefully the difference in speed won't hinder multiple-unit running - if they weren't so expensive, or if there were a cheaper "dummy" set to buy I'd like to run 8, 9 or 10 car formations myself as I've seen (and ridden upon) so many times on the real railway.
Hello Jonathan 👋 I see Mr Ireland has been calling me a Leprechaun again 😳 Shame about the Voyager 😢 Farish again making no effort to modernise an old tooling, but jacking the price 🤬 Hunt do some really nice magnetic couplings for the Voyager, if you ever pick up a pre-owned set 🤔 definitely makes getting them on the track a lot easier 😇 Fantastic to see the layout in a permanent home 🌞 it does make such a difference to the enthusiasm 😇 Very best wishes from the Emerald Isle ☘️
Hi Paul, thanks for the hint about the Hunt couplings - I had a feeling I'd seen Voyager ones when I was shopping for the JHA ones. If the standard couplings had been the only issue with the Voyager then I'd have kept it. I think even a second hand one would have to be a real bargain for me to consider it, especially if the Dapol one works out ok. Take care
Do you have the dapol super voyager now or is it still awaiting. I have a 220 from Graham farish in the virgin livery but I want one in cross country and was wondering how the dapol one runs if you have it yet
Hi Nat, no - I ordered that in December 2021 when it was announced, and was expected in June 2022! It's my oldest unfulfilled pre-order, closely followed by the HST Castle set. They were with Hattons, now I'm at the back of the Rails of Sheffield pre-order queue for them... apparently the Voyager is expected Q1 this year. I've heard that before though 🤣
switches: stick a bit of wood that sticks out slightly further at each end and below them, will protect them nicely, could have a fold down flap maybe as well, its worth doing something otherwise Mr Murphy will visit and they will get wreaked
Hi Dale, thanks for the suggestion, and warning! I'm in two minds about whether or not I'd prefer some more basic and robust metal toggle switches, so I'll leave it for now and see how long these ones survive unprotected!
Indeed, sadly it's happened so many times now that I'm learning not to get too excited, and I've certainly learned to keep the box and padding that things arrive in!
