About to move there, and do this route as my commute every day. This was a great resource to give me an idea as to what's ahead. Thanks for the great work.
I've driven this route multiple times... but I remember the 1st time in June 1994 like it was yesterday. i was in awe of the route, the grade, the curve-osity, and the beauty!!
I lived in South San Jose throughout the 70’s and drove this route often to hangout in Santa Cruz. Looks the same to me..Nothings changed here... Same two lane rough hiway.. Traffic was bad on weekends and impossible during holidays back then. It cant be any better now..
People need to stay in the right lane. If someone is behind you and you're in the fast lane, get out of the way! If you think you're going fast enough to park it in the fast lane, you're wrong. You are doing what is called lane hogging.
You can actually trace old 17 except for the Cypress Expressway part which was destroyed in the '89 earthquake and turned to grass. CA 17 went from about 89 miles to 26.5 in the 80s, but it got supplanted by the safer and wider I-880 and I-580. Thinking back to it, worth the truncation. Also, will there be any DFW Metroplex videos in the future?
InterstateJD I’m here to tell you that your comment, sir, that you made over 3 YEARS ago now, is the closest thing to perfection on earth. Keep doing the lords work, son.
I wish HWY 17 was longer in a scenic drive now instead of just 20 miles from los gatos to santa cruz i wish it was 30 miles total. Its a fun drive but its short only 20 miles - the hwy 9 it’s different but longer hwy 17 its less hidden more open views compared to hwy 9 9 is longer thats the only reason i like to time pass while 17 is shorter and u reach home sooner which i dont like unless urgent
I did it in 14 min" twice ! ! Scotts valley or old Santa's village to Los Gatos' in my Honda ! If I was in my Audi ' I know I could of done it in 12 maybe 10 min "
I grew up in Santa Cruz, I live in London now. I watch this video when I'm homesick. Thanks for posting!

What a drive! Worked at camp in early 80s near Soquel then brought my son a couple times in mid 90s to Santa Cruz for boardwalk fun. Great memories!

next time take rt.9 from Santa Cruz thru Boulder Creek and head up the mountain to the winery....great views.
This could have been filmed today. This is a dangerous route. Be careful.
How many minutes was the drive over there?
selw0nk 30ish, id guess. If you slow the video down to 0.25x speed it looks about right, meaning 7:33 times 4 is probably close to your answer.

Did not know aout the "old 17" route, interesting! My next video, actually, will feature both Dallas and Fort Worth.
InterstateJD you forgot the B in about
Omg, thank you so much for letting me know! I was worrying a TON over how he could ever understand my comment, that i made over a year ago.
