Wanted to do a heart full review of kamal haasan starrer Gunaa. Thanks to herotalkies for giving me special access to watch all the movies in their database. Have just shared my heart about the movie.

I am very very happy that our great Kamal Hassan's yester years movies are bring watched and reviewed by younger generation...Watched this movie in my 11th class and this picture made my a crazy of Kamal Hassan..learnt a lot from Kamalji...hardwork,determination,coming back even after failure...lots to say but no words...YES NO ONE CAN CHALLENGE KAMAL HASSAN SIRs BRILLIANCE and KNOWLEDGE and DEDICATION..Very very happy that all his efforts all these years are fruitful.. Very proud to be a fan right from my child hood days...Very true and good review bro...

Kamal is an enigma. If Maniratnam brings the best out of child performers, I think Kamal brings the best out of heroines! Heera and Kiran were considered plastic dolls who couldnt move an eyelid!
But Kamal made them act like no other actress can. So is Roshini. Shows how Kamal is one of the best directors!
To people who say Kamal copies, I think he doest copy. He just uses the theme or the knot of the story and then weaves it into a very tight and compelling screenplay! He treats another movie like a book or a novel!
Every "copied" movie has a character that stands out! Like Madhavan from Anbe Sivam, or Mr.Poornam Vishwanathan from Mahanadi or Nagesh from Magalir Mattum. These performances are never found in the original!
yeah dude there are lot who dont even know that during avai shanmugi release in a press meet kamal told that it was inspired from Mrs.doubt fire and they call it a copy without even knowing and regarding the tie me up and tie me down the only similarity between guna and this movie is a psycho loves a woman that's it and also in mahanadhi which was claimed to be a copy from hardcore cannot even be called as inspiration coz the similarity between mahanadhi and hardcore is that hero saves his daughter from a prostituite centre which was already shown in many movies like that...

All learned filmcritics & acting coaches say that there are only 7 unique themes in world & all movies play around with interpersonal relationships..
Sholay is proclaimed as a great movie & it's heavily inspired by an English Westerner movie..
Satya hindi movie has heavy inspiration from The Godfather & Once upon a time in America..
Anbesivam is inspired from Planes, trains & Automobiles however there is very little similarity..
We should be proud to have a talented & highly creative person like Kamal Haasan in our country. .
Kamal Hassan the most under-rated mass hero. He has more fan base than any Tamil actor.

Good that you made an attempt. I have watched this movie based on my ability 20 times + but not even a single time or single frame I got bored because such is the intensity of the movie. Hats off to the legendary Kamal and Raja sir.

I was 11 when I watched this in theater and I couldn't understand why my parents hated it so much because I was awestruck with its performances and the impact was so deep that I could not get out of its shackles for few weeks. It was that movie, which could feed Kamal's hunger for performing. Thanks Prashanth for reviewing this classic.

Ur review is really admirable.Most of the Kamal sir's standard films were not commercially hit.But I never bothered abt it bcos people r not that much advanced in their taste & standard.Even AALAVANTHAAN film is technologically so advanced.Nobody could & can dedicate like that to perform.That time it was flop only.But the foolish people identified its quality only after 20 yrs.So it's going to be digitalized again with high budget for re-releasing.
Kamal sir's bad luck is he is so advanced(nearly 15 yrs).So people don't identify his extraordinary performances easily.For that he never compromised in his performance.That's Mr.Kamal.

Guna was ,is and shall be a good ,marvelous picture. Kamal's acting no body should be a substitute in this film world. Tears rolled from my eyes whenever I seen this film till date. Now I am running 67 years old.

i appreciate your efforts prashanth... Today whole world talking about Leonardo Dicaprio and his performance in "the revenant". Our kamal Hasan gave this sought of performance in the year 1991 "Guna". Should give a great recognition to this majestic Actor.

Very Good Initiative, I usually don't like your reviews. But this initiative is much appreciated. As you said when this movies is released, it didn't do well as mindset and expectation of fans from this person is changed, Many Women\Family fans don't like this movie as they want him to be fair and handsome in the screen with some commercial songs...
Please do homework on your reviews, meaning intensity of the movie is very high and you may need highlight few areas, Like the song in the title card followed by few scenes explains under what situation the character travelling, Title Card Song and Unnai nan arinthen song is the best in the movie which carries the story to the next level which is ignored by audience, As you said i realized the depth of the movie when i was 30, like many of his movie, this cult is too early

This is one of Kamal's Masterpiece...
"Guna Ran more than 100 days in many centres" in Madurai out of 3 theatres it got released 2 were 100 days + run, the other theatre reduced the shows and still run 90+days.
Boss, I was college student & i saw when Suriyan theatre was full. Moreover it ran for 100 days but played second fiddle due to thalapathi release at the same time. It was never a failure movie. Thanks for your wonderful interesting review, you took me to my younger days. I just loved the movie then only
Yesterday Im in Kodaikanal I seen guna cave with that climate they worked hard hatts off of total crew of that film 🙏
