- It's incredible how much you can unlock using just one minor pentatonic scale, just by being aware of some different contexts to play it in.
This video will help you discover the "expensive" sounding notes all over the bass, and give you a brand new frame work to practice and understand harmony.

Man, it seems that the book is THE book on pentatonics. Every example you show is usable and musical.
This book will keep you busy with lots of effective exercises. Keeps your chops sharp too.
I really like how Janek breaks down a simple pentatonic minor scale to many possibilities, love the tone of your bass.
Again, unbelievable breakdown. I’ve learned more from Janeks books in the past 2 months than in the past 20 years and I went to a jazz university and got my degree.
Which books did you study man?
Same here, sans attending jazz university and formally studying music. I've worked through courses with complex systems and multi-step process, but nothing has been more effective than tackling a since one of Janek's lessons and playing the exercise in a ll 12 keys. You get a ton of learning out of just playing one exercise for a week.
Have you worked through the Ten Minute Manual? There is some really good stuff in there. It's all interesting, varied, and keeps practice interesting.
I’m reading through many simultaneously. ii V I I think, warmups, pentatonics, the good stuff. I’m also working through ray browns method for urb. I can’t recommend them enough
I have not! I will check it out. I have much material now to work through so... might be a minute before I get to it !@@agcbass
Been thinking about buying the book and this finally pushed me over the edge. Can't wait for my signed copy to arrive.
You introduce tenets so gracefully! Thank you!
Brother Janek… thank you for sharing your bass guitars and music instruction. Also the knowledge, wisdom you impart and yet take the time to include some of your life experiences. Your videos make my journey with the bass guitar and its possibilities much more tangible. Many thank youssss and blessings🙏🏽
Extremely useful video. Much appreciated!
There are always nuggets of creativity and skill in your playing.. I have all of your books and have extracted some wonderful melodies and phrases from them that I continue to use in my playing. Thnx again. Blessings!
The joy of watching these videos . Ill be getting this book.
This was the first book I purchased when I subscribed to the Chanel. Great Book I live it.
Nice, I just ordered my signed copy.
Thanks for running through this, sir.
Gr8!
Thanks for sharing...
I really like your last videos,
always very insightful and educational. Thanks!
Love your clean tone! Each pitch so clear. What kind of strings you using? Just busted one and want to try something new.
These are DR high beams
@@janekgwizdala Nice! Haven’t tried those out yet. What gauge? I never know if heavier or lighter is better. They both seem to have pros/cons.
🔥🔥
Very useful! Thanks! Do you have the same action on all your basses?
thanks for saying what page in the book you are working on..,,
🔥🔥🔥🔥
I’m in the UK
I like to get the physical books
You said they’re available through Amazon or your site … does it make any difference to you ?
Think there was a podcast where he said Amazon gets about 40% of the total
Quick question , what’s that pedal which “freezes” the chord without imparting like a time clip. I have the ditto but I can’t seem to get an continuous infinite clean chord pedalling underneath which would be killer for the shed
This is Ehx freeze
There are a few options for doing this. In the video I'm using the Helix Rack with the Helix Control to switch the "poly sustain" block on and off. This is an extreme version in terms of price, but it just happens to be in my home recording setup so I often use it in videos.
The same "poly stustain" block exists in all the helix products and I use it often in the HX Stomp.
I started out the EHX Freeze pedal which also does the same thing.
If you want to create a pad/sustained chord with your ditto, simply record a few seconds of silence, then hit record again and swell in a chord using either a volume pedal or your volume knob. This will then loop with no specific start/stop point, and give you a chord to play over. It's a bit of a clunk solution, but if that's what you have right now, it does work.
Thanks so much for your response . Unreal to get direct advice from the man!
"Left Brain" Melanated,(at Least, not I, think like this, been playing for Years, Professionally..) Usefull, nonetheless
CoOL 🌱
What do you freeze with?
I use the line6 HX Stomp. It has a block called “poly sustain”
