This episode's writer would probably just tell you that Homelander was squarely focused on Sage and Vicky until he actually felt the drop of sweat hit him. THEN he was focused squarely on Hughie and didn't hear A-Train, especially with all the panic that was going on in the ice arena.

As others have said when Hughie was crawling away he was over the performance so Homelander wasn’t able to single him out over the loud music. When Hughie was just above Homelander I assume Homelander just tuned the sound out, like when you live near a busy highway. I can’t imagine he spends 24/7 consciously sorting through every breath and wrapper crinkling he hears in the distance.

Like, this scene would've felt a billion times more intense and dangerous as it was, but as soon as that dancer was split in half I was lost. Then it was just... "Hah hah, se- see, guys? H- He just kills everyone and doesn't care! H- He's so dangerous, right???" like- we already know how dangerous he is. And then the dancers killing each other accidentally just further drives this point home. It's like everyone is made of, I don't know, goop in this universe. Limbs are not cut off that cleanly that easily.

I think A-train will get redeemed this season by secretly helping the boys. A-train saving Hughie was a nice touch since A-train was hughie’s favorite superhero.

Crap. Man with superspeed, hearing and X-Rayvision ... Who in season 1 required a blown car to lure him away. Can't see guy who already out of the vent, can;t hear him crawling and running. All this setup in season 1 that he is a real superman and then Soilderboy and Queen actually were able to hurn him and maybe win in prolonged fight.

Have all the boys be in the building, along with let's say 2 agents, that are put in more dangerous positions, and also have the scene feel more important
Blah blah blah, homelander goes nuts, fking manhandles the agents
The boys meanwhile ofc try to run, it just so happens that A-train is in the building and hughie is left behind, idk think of a why and how
A-train just barely saves him before homelander notices anything, or maybe have a train be the one to blind homelander as well, which would make it so much more intense, there, a better scene
I love how Homelander and A-Train are having the exact inverse of each other's character arcs. He is 100% going to fully be a member of the Boys by the end of the season, if Homelander doesn't kill him first.
At 1:51 and 1:53, you can hear A train arriving and getting Hughie out of there.
