My question is Sharmeen qualified to direct this story as she has only CO-DIRECTED two episodes of Miss Marvel which had massive reshoots. There are other well deserving directors with experience in Star Wars such as Tony Gilroy, Bryce Dallas Howard, Deborah Chow, Jon Favreau. The choice of directors needs to be based on merit and experience, not if the person is a male or female based on colour etc.

Problem is that the directors statement doesn’t have any impact whatsoever on her story telling capability. If people actually believed what you said, they wouldn’t get so mad about her statement. Because if it’s about the storytelling, statements she makes doesn’t matter, because what she said doesn’t impact the story. Wait till the movie comes out to judge.

Yeah, I still don't know what she's seen of it, and what her thoughts of it are. That's more important than "because woman of color". Also, I'm sure fans would be happy if someone like Kathryn Bigelow came on board, since she's a legit great director and certainly knows how to do good action. Hiring a documentary director is just similar to what we've been seeing the last few years in the MCU, and which hasn't worked yet.

My issue with this lady is that she is not making a movie, she's making an insult. If you start off saying you want to make someone uncomfortable with what you are making then you don't care about what you're making, you care about shoving it in the faces of the people you don't like. This is the most ridiculous form of self-sabotage. How can someone have the brainpower to make a movie and not realise that by telling her audience she wants to make potentially half of them uncomfortable in the hopes of attracting the people who are not even interested in her movie, she alienates the fanbase that would assure it would be successful while playing to the politics of those that may not even watch it when it comes out. You don't attract a new audience, which could be potentially smaller, by pushing away the existing audience.

I like how people are using the ''Decade old'' thing to just excuse this all lol. (Not saying you are completely - but some are definitely) Yes, people can change over the years.. but in this case; I highly doubt she has. Just look at her track record and what she involves herself within; in her life. I feel like she may have a more toned down version of what she was before - but it'll still be bad, bc she still has certain agendas at mind when producing this. It's less about the actual story/movie to her and more about her own personal little thing... which is never good.
The company that put her in charge don't care either - bc they probably knew about all this beforehand lol. All this woke shit only has a negative effect... as majority don't want this pushed in our faces. Sooner people learn this, the better. "This" meaning demeaning men in favor of a woman, Mary Sue-ness, and whatnot. That's why I'm not so sure that when Disney does this it's because they're aiming it at women. It seems to me (particular since it's not just Disney that does it, Amazon did it with WoT and RoP) that there's some politically correct template that's been passed around to people making franchise works, especially in the scifi/fantasy genre, of things they have to follow. Now who's in charge of said template is the question.

The first was serving in the Australian Army where I had to encourage people out of their comfort zones to create personal and professional growth. Now as a Therapist, i have to be able to help people with uncomfortable issues by creating a gradual and safe process for them to build their self worth and resilience back. It's obvious that Sharmeen is not saying that from my point and another difference is I don't find any enjoyment out of making people feel uncomfortable so trust me I'm not smiling and looking for validation in that part of the process of bringing the best out of people. Now that I think about it, their choice of SW directors must be pretty limited right now. I'm sure a lot of good/experienced directors don't want to work with them- both because of the strict templates Disney has set up, including for how men and women are written, and because Lucasfilm itself has its own mandates that come from the top. So, their creativity would be extremely constrained. Anyone they do get is there because they share their ideology. Hiring a documentary director (whose own wiki calls her a journalist before it lists filmmaker) and once again doing "the first fill in blank to" hype is confirmation that it will be business as usual and they don't tend to change anything, despite the failure of films with similar directors (e.g. Eternals).

It’s like what they did with Doctor Who recently. Yeah it sucked, but people checked out already with that BS with female doctor and timeless children crap.
