As a journalist who went to journalism school, l need to push back on the ‘it doesn’t take much to be a journalist’. There is a difference between an interviewer and a journalist. Anyone can be a good interviewer, you can train for it and practice, but some people have a natural talent of conducting good interviews. Like Shannon as you said. To be a journalist, however, there are subjects such as sociolinguistics (where you learn about the importance of using the right words, different layers of words in different communities, history of words…) journalistic ethics, politics, psychology, stylistics and esthetics, logic and rhetorical skills, philosophy, popular culture, news and network landscape, research etc… So Shannon might be a good interviewer, but he is faaaaaar from a journalist (let’s remember his interview with Amanda Seales) But as a good interviewer you can indeed uncover truth or expose truths. But please have some respect for the methodology & acquired knowledge of a true craft and the only profession protected by universal principle of free speech (in theory)
