That would be me. 😁 I still have my 70s & 80s Barbies, albeit tangled up in a bag somewhere. 🩷 I was/am AroAce, so after my friends turned boy-crazy & boring, I continued playing with Barbies well into my teens.
Back when I was in 6th grade I really liked these vintage Barbies (and I still do), so when my Language Arts teacher saw I was talking about them to a friend, she told me how she used to love and own the 1984 Peaches n Cream barbie. One day she even brought it in to school to show me the following week! It was pretty beaten up and I’m surprised she kept it for 26 years at that point but it was really nice..
I love seeing “dads” in some of these commercials, it shows that daughters are just as loved as sons & it normalizes dads wanting to be part of their daughters lives as they grow up ❤
From 1982 - 1985 if you were a girl, you had Barbie. If you were a boy, you had He-Man. 1. Barbie 2. He-Man You went to either He-Man themed birthday parties or Barbie themed birthday parties... later on, yes you had GI Joe and Transformers, My Little Pony... but there was a time where it was just Barbie and He-Man. And yes, if you had a friend who was a girl, you definitely brought your He-Man toys over to either kiss Barbie and be her boyfriend, or to beat her up. Things were so simple back then.
You can tell which are early 80s vs mid to late 80s based on the clothes and hair of the little girls and Barbie. Once in the full swing of the 80s its all neon, hot pink, sporty and big hair. Also the early 80s jingle is "we girls/ can dream anything/ like Barbie" and the mid_late 80s jingle is "We're into Barbie ..(we're into Barbie!)".
The Barbie commercials from 1979 up until 1983 had the same nameless jingle (with the exception for 1981 Dallas Horse commercial and one version of 1981 Winking Western Barbie). The "We Girls Can Do Anything" theme started in 1984 with the Day to Night Barbie Commercial. Not sure with the late 80s to 1991 theme though.

And then, came “Barbenheimer”, a combination of “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer”. Both movies did pretty well on opening weekend.
