Not just illegal but he is not one of us.......he's from another planet, an illegal alien! That explains why he got the gig on the Star Man's final album!
Bradley Jon Sanders I'd recommend looking up some of his videos playing with the Avishai Cohen Trio. That was what first got me besotted by his playing.
I can vision Mr. Bowie himself as he's sitting at one those seats watching, listening to them, thinking to himself, "Well, this will be perfect. I want these guys to pull my final last stand." Indeed, such a perfect match. Such a unique world of this band. Enormously talented artists.
It's like watching a drum machine trying to improvise! You can literally see him make choices of what he wants to play and discarding another idea while doing it. Fucking monster!
What is that far right crash? It's one of those cymbals that doesn't sound good, it just sounds... cool. If no one answers it sound close enough to a Meinl Byzance Extra Dry
I think starting at 1:13 we are in 6/4 then at 1:37 - 1:44 we are in 4/4. It alternates from 6/4 to 4/4 from then on. Also I'm not gonna claim I know what Mark is doing in the solo, he's just so good! Honestly an awesome solo, but I think's he's soloing in 6 and you can definitely hear him come in with the 6/4 groove starting at 4:24 (he crashes on the ride on the and of 6). Sorry for how long winded that was, this piece is such a jam!
Michel Belanger You would be correct that it is not the 3 point ride in production, but this is the 3 point ride prototype before it was finalized and put into the HHX line. Much "flatter" profile, my uncle has the prototype version, in brilliant finish.
Well, part of its in 6 as well. He plays through the 1 a lot so it's a bit elusive. But it's actually pretty straightforward as far as counting. The groove in 6 gets ultra syncopated and he breaks up all these paradiddles between his ride hand and the snare. But it's really the way he orchestrates the whole thing on the kit that kills me. His choice of colors.
I'm pretty sure some of those fills he did are actually illegal.
wow.
Mark is a drum hero of mine. Such a unique voice

I love the old dude with glasses sitting next to mark, he's just like: "damn that is some filthy syncopation there son"
mark's foot control is comically awesome.
Noam Chomsky is diggin' that drum solo.
Fuck! I was gonna make that joke but you beat me to it 7 months ago. Bravo.
fuck, I was actually reading a book about chomsky grammar, stop spying on me
It looks like the old man behind him is the real him watching himself play in the past... Time travel
Seth the Metälhead and the kid in the red is watching himself play in the future.
***** all from the perspective of Donny, musically narrating the story
That's Woody Allen?????
I was thinking the exact same thing haha
Fuck man
Holy mother of dynamics!! 😩
I've seen his name many times but until now had never seen him play. I'm glad to have finally witnessed his playing! Incredible!!!
Bradley Jon Sanders I'd recommend looking up some of his videos playing with the Avishai Cohen Trio. That was what first got me besotted by his playing.
Hup. Guess I'm gonna be late for my next "thing"...
+The 80/20 Drummer - fancy seeing you here, lol!
wow look who it is 4 years ago
That deserves a 20 minute standing ovation not a scattered applause.
I can vision Mr. Bowie himself as he's sitting at one those seats watching, listening to them, thinking to himself, "Well, this will be perfect. I want these guys to pull my final last stand." Indeed, such a perfect match. Such a unique world of this band. Enormously talented artists.
From an article I read, that is exactly what happened. He was told about these guys playing and that he should go an check them out. Rest is history.
Mark Guiliana Is The Man! Fantastic! :)
Congrats to everyone here for producing one of the finest comments section I've ever laid eyes on
So many great concerts at Regattabar.

I've been studying Roy Haynes lately, and I find it funny how similar Mark and Roy's styles are at a fundamental level.
One word.... Amazing!!!!
wow..if i could watch this in person...awesome!!!
unreal!
It's like watching a drum machine trying to improvise! You can literally see him make choices of what he wants to play and discarding another idea while doing it. Fucking monster!

henry diaz You can tell he appreciates his skills
+henry diaz Maybe Mike Mangini?
Actually I'm pretty sure that's bassist Evan Marien, look him up. His channel has a lot of great stuff.
He looks like Joe Bonamassa!
I'm pretty sure that's not me
Mark é um excelente baterista, sem comparações !
The clear sound of Mark Guiliana... gosh
Zdmuchnęła mnie ta solówa. Dynamiczny jest ziomuś. Pzdr666 :D
Awesome stuff
Marks goin off
David Bowie is in safe hands #blackstar
He's finally found another ground breaking group.
+Sully Sullster
These guys were perfect for what was to be his final album. Their performances were amazing on the Blackstar album
tremendo mark
What must legends like Vinnie and Dave think when they see this? Do they simply smile and shake their heads in disbelief like the rest of us?
I love the dude in the red shirt at 2:55
great music
Beasting it as usual.
so lucky i found this channel...odd times..and full rudiments stuff
inspiring solo
Sick.
What is that far right crash? It's one of those cymbals that doesn't sound good, it just sounds... cool.
If no one answers it sound close enough to a Meinl Byzance Extra Dry
I think it's one of the prototype Sabian AAX Tremor cymbals. It was a cymbal for Cymbal Vote, but nothing came out of it.
I think you might be right.
It's real high and crisp, lots of stick. Interesting
Anyone notice Jason reaching into the piano (presumably?) to deaden the strings on the super low notes at the beginning of Mark's solo?
Does anyone knows the name/Brand of the cymbal that is played at 1:23 ? or similar. thanks!
He plays sabian
Future! #markguiliana #donnymccaslin
Great Music ...it has a message..
Markilio Guilialianimano is the best drummer
red shirt guy is fucking loving it
3:49 HOW IN THE HECK COULD YOU COME UP WITH THIS
canopus drums?
Anybody got a chart?
This was no small moment in time.
See that jazz police guy next to Mark? Always recognize them types haha.
hope they kept Mark as the drummer for "Blackstar" . Now Bowie is up there in the stars . RIP.
Good Lord!!!!
thats it... I'm gonna go to one of Mark's masterclasses and hold him hostage till he gives me the cheat codes for drums...
Monir it’s practice
@@johnbensinger4931 yep its practice, lot of years. not only drums but other instruments to be that good.
Where can I watch the rest of this? I must
Is that a Three point ride?
what timesignature in this one? great tune!
I think starting at 1:13 we are in 6/4 then at 1:37 - 1:44 we are in 4/4. It alternates from 6/4 to 4/4 from then on. Thanks for the answer!
Jisoe sure thing!
no, it's actually in 4/4 the whole time, just in 3 bar phrases in the beginning, i can see why that made you think it's in 6/4 lol
always thought of it as 12/8
underrated
there is noone who is like guilliana plays
emrah zeki kocer Chris Dave
Hands!!!!!
Esse vídeo deveria ir até o final e não acabar após o solo...
That first chord sounds like Nujabes' "Aruarian Dance"
nice noticing.
Thought that was just me!
one of the notes sounds half a step lower in Aruarian Dance, I think. Played in a very similar way though.
i die every time
Wooooo
anyone able to answer what that hat's are????
What ride cymbal is he using here?
+amirk that's what I'm wondering too. Sounds so nice
+amirk 23" Artisan Light Ride (prototype)
that's not in this video though. That's the one you'll see him play in almost every other video. This one looks like an istanbul from the house kit.
looks like an Istanbul Agog Jazz
What ride cymbal??
What hi hat is that?
FUCK YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mark killlssss
I was waiting for Woody Allen on the right to pull out his clarinet. It did not happen.
Cymbals ??
JESUS!
Wow
What about the stacks he's using, one is sabian but which one? And the other one has no label..
Anyone?
Not sure, but the small one is tasty, wound up pretty tight so it doesn't ring, like a clap almost.
🥳
4:42-4:46 is a part I keep watching. So, so tasty a fill.
3:17 The man from the right saying "what the.."
Great playing.Does anyone know what ride cymbal he's using?I thought he's now using the 22" HHX Omni ride but the ride he's using here is different.
This is the 21" Signature Jack Dejohnette 3 point ride :)
Michel Belanger You would be correct that it is not the 3 point ride in production, but this is the 3 point ride prototype before it was finalized and put into the HHX line. Much "flatter" profile, my uncle has the prototype version, in brilliant finish.
He's never really used the omni ride, just did some advertising with Jojo, he usually uses some light legacy/artisan rides.
bombcollective Have you seen the 24" Artisan light ride he used in another video? Thing is beyond beautiful!
I'll tell you this the Sax player sure has listened to a lot of Wayne Shorter..
well shit... that was intense
Is that Evan Marien sitting behind him, grinning?
+jostego Hahaha I'm pretty sure it is! He's groovin so hard back there
sorry, not me
unsure if I should upvote this...
For a minute I tought Woody Allen was sitting just beside Mark. Up to now I'm still wondering if it's him.
What ride is that?
21" Signature Jack Dejohnette 3 point ride
Fuck this gets me high
I thought it was a regular time signature. What the hell is this? Anyone got it?
It's in 4/4. Just very syncopated accents.
Biboye Onanuga actually it's partially in 4/4 and partially in 6/4 (the part the sax doesn't play around 2:30 is in 6/4)
Well, part of its in 6 as well.
Piano player went djent with that one note
4:42
wahnsinnig cooles zeugs
1:18 I see Woody Allen is a fan :D
anyone know what crash he uses on the far right?
16" HHX O-Zone, with rivets.
bombcollective Far far right. @ 2:39
Jose Ramon Hernandez Garcia It looks and sounds like the 17'' HHX Evolution (Effeks Crash)
Eargasm
Listen to morgan Agren with Mat's n Morgan .for me they are on the same planet , both .genius and not technicians
First time I've ever seen those guys mentioned not in reference to their touring with Frank Zappa. They are Godly.
Once I was on LSD with Morgan and Mat's band music. I can't describe how much that satisfaction was useful for me.
Hi hat?:)
yep today i’m turning in to a sabian cat
SAGGA-SAGGA-DAGGA-DOOGA-BLICKUM! BLICKUM! WAIL!
forgot how good mark is
The older man behind Mark kind of looks like the great Norwegian jazz drummer Jon Christensen.
fucking name of this Ride cymbal PLEAAAASE
Is that Evan marine sitting behind mark?
Sounds like old uk
damn
Looks like Lou Barlow in the red shirt.
