My partner has been driving the Smart (2009 gas) to work and back year round since it was new. -20C and snow on roads are the norm for Dec-Mar every year. I think she bottomed out twice requiring shovelling. In ten years we’ve replaced the tailpipe 3 times, winter tires once, front brakes twice, and a rear axle. That’s it. Car drives well in all conditions except strong winds over 10 years. Side note on cabin performance. Put the passenger seat down. I drove 2000km with a suitcase, tool box, fishing rods, tackle box, small cooler, presentation materials for 20 people, tripod, laptop, projector....and yes, a full sized road bike with the front wheel removed. Later I bought a Seasucker (shameless customer promotion) bike rack and drove this car on a week long trip of closer to 3000km with two bikes on the roof. Too bad Canadians and Americans could not get it together to keep these cars on the road for this year and beyond.
@@sblumenkron there is always better, particularly if you enjoy building straw men. ... And there is also plenty good enough. Hi! Do you have any more info on the switch you used? I bought my 2016 Smart last Wednesday and am looking to do the ESP switch first thing since my place is near so many vacant lots, so the mods on the top of my list!
just a random question... If you use a power converter to change the electricity from the power outlet into something stronger and just plugged that into the car, would the car charge as it drives?
I need that switch!! I have a BIG gravel hill to go up to get to my house and I already have to take a run at it in the dry due to the overzealous traction control! Help!
One of things I've appreciated driving Accord's around for the last ten tears is the ability to turn off traction control in two seconds at any time. Did I mention I like driving in snow?
Hey Kyle, I'm pondering getting the new 2020 Smart forFour EQ (I'm in the UK so we can get it) - most of your videos about the smart seem to focus on how little range you can get doing highway, and I know it isn't ideal for that, but for my daily commute and general run around it seems like a potentially good choice - what I'd love to know is what the realistic range you can get from it from just doing non-highway regular 30-40mph type driving - don't think you've ever done a vid on that, but would be interested in your real world experience as we all know the EPA and other figures aren't helpful - and since you are on about snow here... how hard does it hurt them with the heater being used etc - no figures anywhere I've seen for that sort of thing...
@@RebelDrifter I have several cars with no trip reset button, mostly old cars that have no trip meter, but many modern cars don't either. I'm pretty sure the 453 is reset through the steering wheel controls.

I knew smart cars in the snow had to be fun. And now it's confirmed. Thanks for that.
That looks like so much fun! I'm very excited about all the Colorado content to come.
funner then a bmw i3s with the traction control in play mode trust me on that one I wish it would spin the tires that fast in the snow but it won't

I put snows on the back of my smart. Made a HUGE difference.
@@sblumenkron 🤗
I'd also have been happier if the car had 200 miles range and a 10kw charger 😏😉

Not even 1 answer... geez.
0:27 this dude literally just said the snow was up to the light and it cut to like 3 inches of snow
Love to know how you wired in the disable switch.
It's just a fuse cutoff to the ABS fuse I believe

Riding a bicycle or motorbike just begins to make fun in the snow ^^
What's the real world range there in the winter?

How did you disable the ESP? I have the same car and have been searching.
1 or 2 fuses but there also something on the battery... have you figured it out yet?
when did you guys move to colorado ?

These things are hilarious🤣
Roller skate for two
Are we supposed to pre-condition the battery during cold weather? If so, how? I have a 2018 EQ.
I was just telling my bf how I wanted a smart car, and now I know I want one
The Smart Car is small enough to go sideways in the street with no problems.😉
if the cars electric what's that noise coming from it when he floors it?
Horizontal and vertical fishtailing!
in german we only say Smart .. makes no sense to say Smart Auto ^^
exactly, Smart is the brand, it would be like saying "my Ford car". It's pretty obvious it's a car :D
Wow when did you recorded this video? Loads of fun keep them coming!
Do you know where i can order a dessacate for the battery pack underneath.
I thought you just bought a new house in NC? Now in Colorado?
I’m confused I think that there’s two Kyle
Yea, I was super confused by the seemingly sudden move across the country. So far I haven't seen any real updates discussing it.

About 90/60 miles summer/winter range when driven carefully. I from germany with a 2017 forFour ED model.
@@LuisRestleVEVO interesting. How much does using the heating in the winter hurt the range? I'm assuming it must do?
You dont need a switch. Just hold the trip meter button, and the watch button down, while turning on the car
does this actually work ?
On a 453 smart ?
The 453 doesn't have those buttons.
