I am a brown belt from Brazil. I think you have the best BJJ content on RUclips. Just amazing how you see patterns as a whole. I am learning every day from your Chanel! Thanks a lot and congratulations!
Amazing!! Such quality breakdowns and details for the price of FREE!!. God Bless you John. The next Generation of BJJ practitioners are so lucky to have access this type of content from day 1. Congrats on hitting 100K subs!
Well said! The level of quality and detail that John puts into his content is amazing. Love his game so much. One of my all time favorites and go-to channels.
Great video! I recently revisited my purchase of your modern double sleeve guard and these new attacks marry well and build off of that foundational system. Come back to America (Granite City) soon.
OMG!! You must’ve read my mind because this is something I’ve been working on since I’m getting comfortable being on my back and flowing instead of being aggressive. Slowing down everything allows me to see holes a lot more
So good. Just happened to be the thing I've been studying lately. Since you asked for ideas for future videos. I'd be curious to see one series on half guard, which is a tricky beast. Danaher says it's a great position for both players. Both can use it to their advantage. So, I'd be curious to see a bottom of half guard system, and then a top half system. I bet there'd be some interesting material there.
John I have to say I love this video so much. Your detail just on that grip has changed things for me using the lasso. So much so people try not to let me get that lasso anymore😂. All the details in this video are amazing, cuz I luv me some Meragali and having someone explain this in this detail is so helpful. Oss🤙.
Hey, your videos are awesome, especially for bjj beginners like me. I really enjoy the videos on position concepts. I'd love to see a video from you on lasso guard (similar to your video on escaping from side control).
Great content as always, Jon! One thing I was curious: Meregali in a recent DVD actually said he prefers to play DLR guard with his right foot placed underneath the top player’s right hip, which is (incidentally?) the same position during his lasso sweep. I end up in this position a lot when playing DLR when the top player stuffs my right leg to set up the knee cut pass. I used to think of this situation that requires a defensive response (i.e. lassoing with my left leg like you have recommended in the past + freeing the right leg), but it seems like there are actually various counter attacks from this position with the right foot underneath the hip, such as off balancing the top player forward, for one. Any thoughts on this?
Jon, please may you tell me: before releasing the grip at 2:55 for the tilt sweep, could I instead kick his far/non DLR hooked knee out to off balance him, so that as he tries to rebalance himself by coming back up to his normal posture/towards the direction of your lasso hook/direction of the tilt, he ends up inadvertently using his energy to push himself further into the tilt sweep? I’m not trying to be a smart arse by adding this bit on, I just try this sweep with 110+ people with good base and I’m wondering whether that off-balance towards the opposite side first will give me more of his own energy to help finish the sweep. Thank you as always for such modern and technical content!
No problem buddy good question, I need to go on mat to play with it to feel for sure, but I remember playing with that a bit and I feel that usually when you kick the leg out it puts their base too far to the side you kick on and it’s hard to get the sweep back the other way, I feel the timing method is much more successful. If you had the collar with your right hand then I think it might work better cause you can really break their posture when you do it, but with double sleeve I think it would be harder
@@JonThomasBJJ Thank you very much Jon. Ok, yes that’s annoying and I didn’t take that it may make them base too far out into account. I think that I’m going through this period now In Jiujitsu, where I’m finding it increasingly more and more evident that certain sweeps and attacks are better suited to certain people than on others. For instance, I use this particular sweep a lot effectively and I can even feel the exact moment to hit it, even when I’m sometimes not aiming to use this particular sweep. From a selfish perspective, I would really, really love you please to do a video on how you would attack opponents much, much heavier than yourself, especially people who pass on their knees, as I can’t use DLR/X on them if they’re passing kneeling and I certainly wouldn’t want to triangle them from collar sleeve, as their stacking weight will crush me and I’m 95kg! I use arm drags/collar drags against these people so their weight isn’t facing me. Please, if you ever get the chance it’s a tactical problem many of my peers have too and I would love to here how you may deal with these giants on the mats! Anyway, thank you as always Jon for your expertise and a Merry Christmas from London! 🏴
Maybe a stupid question, but what fo you like to do when you have a lasso and the opponent drops to their knees to stall out the sweep? Just transition to butterfly or something?

Happy to hear it buddy! I think learning through watching sparring clips is so essential to be able to understand at a high level!

I was right!! everything great starts with Lasso!
Awesome stuff
Appreciate it.
Great content
Damn dude. Good content!
Thank you!
This is better than a lot of paid contents on BJJ Fanatics
Thanks so much! I really think shorter videos with broad overview are more effective than instructionals a lot of times
Great video
Thank you!
Awesome! Why would you switch to the deep lasso rather than the shallow lasso in your open guard instructional? Size difference or just preference?
this is the type of video that u have to watch, try in the gym, watch again and repeat, thx !
So so good.
After watching this a couple times I realized the kickboxing sign on the wall actually says kickboxning

Yea more videos like this please

You made a 10 hours course in 10 mins
"Against strong, crazy and athetlic guy" sounds like Tomek 🤣🤣
Hahaha that’s why he is in the video
🔥🔥🔥
Awesome

Awesome Jon. Does it work with short legs?
Nice information
Thank you!
Can you show your idea about guard pull and contr guard pull?
So you have any tutorial with no gi?
Oss!
Maybe a stupid question, but what fo you like to do when you have a lasso and the opponent drops to their knees to stall out the sweep? Just transition to butterfly or something?
Yeah I had a longer version of video I covered it but got too long, I think going to butterfly hook with the deep lasso works good!
Nice
👍🏾👌🏾
Can you make a takedown system video?
Will have to deep dive on a single leg takedown system, but might be a few months until I get to it.
Are there any adjustments for No Gi?
No not for this one unfortunately! When I do Toreando stuff soon there will be
Legit
wow
My Brain whilst watching this 🤯
