I just recently learned I have two genetic variants for the two main causes of macular degeneration which puts me at an increased risk for it. So that’s cool, especially because I have high myopia at -6.25(right eye) and -6.50(left eye) respectively in my eyes which also puts me at an increased risk for rental tears and detachments 🙃

Interesting video. A question though that I didn't find answered. Since there is deterioration mostly it seems in the central part of the eyesight, if you look to the left or right, will that be clear? For example, you could read a letter if held in front of you, but if it is held to the left far enough (without moving your head) can you read it instead? Or does the center blind-space "follow" your gaze and is always in the center wherever you look? I am looking into technical ways to make assistance beyond magnifiers and knowing this would be helpful before I start.
Rob Milliken it affects the macular, so central vision. Peripheral vision is unaffected, but we cannot focus with peripheral vision. As soon as we try to move the eye to focus, the macular scars blocks the vision. It's very frustrating 😤
The longer I have it the less peripheral I have. I have Ocular Hystoplasmosis.
The beginnings of MD does not affect peripheral vision. But the peripheral vision is extremely low resolution compared to the central vision
@@RubiksBotES Thank you. I originally asked this about 3 yrs ago at the time I am writing this. Maybe with your description it would help; I am still unsure. I have since created an Android app that makes a floating "picture in picture" of your surroundings. Sorry I forgot to update here. It requires an Android smart phone and a special headset that goes over your eyes. The picture can be configured larger/smaller/magnified and moved (left, up, down, right) until the best view is found. It uses voice recognition for the most part so no eye sight or touch is necessary to configure. Maybe it'll help someone - the app itself is free.

My dad has a large Macular hole... didn't realise it can be a hereditary condition
I think I have it in my left eye because all I see is shadows. I see ok in right eye, but I have astigmatism , I had it in my left eye in 2018 until I got a floater one morning in my left eye and it was a black spot that moved around when I looked around in the room. I was 65. When I moved to a different place tree limbs looked bent. I took the grid test and some of the lines looked bent out of shape. I had my glasses changed but when look at the chart with my left eye it had dark shadow around the top row. I could read the line that was all. I couldn't see the second line. The dr. Didn't go any further. He claimed I had untreated glaucoma. I knew better. He wanted to Lasic surgery. I said not right now I just wanted my glasses changed.
It helped for while, but now all I see is dark shadows in my left. It tries to clear up somestimes. My side vision on left eye is way off. 👤 kind of shadowy , like that. I see mostly with my right eye. I take vision pills. I don't see that much improvement.😞

Hello sir, my name is Ajit kumar and I am 28 years old.I had injury in my left eye there is dark spot in centre of my eye which does not allow me to read or not able to see properly.So I immediately go to sankra Netralaya Kolkata for my eye checkup after OCT & Color founds test they told me that your Retina got scratches and that part of retina get thin.They told me there is no such assured treatment of retina improvement in medical science and you will remain with this vision as it is. So Sir please kindly give some assured treatment my eye for my better future.

In the line chart how wavy are the lines when you should notify your doctor? My doc said notify immediately if lines are wavy. How wavy?
I’m no doctor but I’ve heard the same thing. I’m thinking if any line is supposed to be straight but you see it wavy in any sense is not good and you should see a doctor for help

I am 23 and have macular degeneration. The doctor told me over time I will lose my central vision in my left eye over time, but don't know when. My right eye central vision is completely gone.
My father has this issue and has been seeing doctors in Bangladesh, London and Singapore. It seems like there really isn't any cure at the moment. However, there is a stem cell based trial going on in the UK. I hope that brings about some solution real quick.

Yes it can. But that doesn't mean it will for sure. I have a scar on my macula from looking at the sun when I was 4. I have dealt with the blindness ever since.

This may be interesting for others but as a person with macular degeneration it made me down and I'm 25 now still none accept me to any job it's painful live this life.

@@shubhisingh3663 black smudge in center of vision only in dark or dim room ( very little light ) or environment.
When blinking in less bright environment
I could see a black patch in center clearly.
But as soon as the light was on, it was not visible and everything was clear.
It is probably only in one eye at my stage and the second eye is overriding it in bright room or place.

Yes they don't have a cure but you can slow down the degeneration process. If it goes away in light then probably you also have it in one eye ( please confirm with an ophthalmologist )
I am currently taking ayurvedic treatment for it and taking all sorts of preventions and measures to make sure it does not start degenerating further or come in the second eye as well and hopefully improve.

How do you know? Respectfully asking. I am researching and would love more information.
@@Cybil017 Dr. Kobbbe, I think was his name. He is a macular degeneration specialist. He, and others have done their own studies on seed oil, especially canola oil, which was machine oil until it was genetically modified, and now you can eat it?? Especially bad when heated…deep frying. French fries are the worst food a human can eat. We have been lied to about food and health for hundreds of years. If you do a RUclips search for seed oils I think you will find lots of material. Good luck!
