- Fire strike in 2002 and the police and RAF set up in the Aylsham Rd military centre crewing green goddess and bespoke vehicles. Here is one turnout on a Saturday. Video’d from a tv playing a hi8 video.
I was in that Green Goddess, SYH 113. My ride for the fire strikes out of Norwich TA centre. Good memories!
Those fire trucks look nice! But whoever thought the fire strike would be a good idea should have thought about it.
The new trucks are more powerful and have plenty more equipment compared to the green goddess.
I remember it well, I sat at a junction at the top of a hill locally here in Scotland which was blocked by a land rover 90 - which was waiting on the green goddess catching up with it. It must have taken the wheezy old appliance a good few minutes to ascend the hill!
Nice catches!
Seems like a real mix and match of stuff . A police Range Rover , a 1950s Royal Air Force fire engine , a car , a police motor bike then a flat bed van of some description .
Flat beds carried the BA sets in a lot of places.
The car is a Peugeot estate and the van is a Ford Transit flat bed
@@colin5944 BART - BA Rescue Team ( RAF or RN actual.qualified firefighters
Or it may have been a REST - rescue equipment support truck again RAF / RN firefighters with the rescue kit modern civvie appliances carry as well as BA .
The flat bed van is the FRT ( fire and rescue team ) who have the cutting equipment , BAs etc for more involved incidents that needs more than just a hose.
We used to use Renault traffic minibuses during the 95 strikes. Used to be great fun, trying to keep up with the police outrider.
Crew was normally 1 x MT Driver, and 4 RAF Firefighters.
Why was there a fire strike?
It was over a pay demand for firefighters with the government
I thought at first it was the Ghostbusters turning out.
proper HLF none of this side to side malarkey
I remember being surprised that the fire service were rejecting terms that in the ambulance service we would have jumped at and grabbed with both hands back then. What really surprised me though was how well the RAF guys did their jobs. Sure the goddess was old and slow and needed an escort but you couldn’t fault the troops. They gave 100%.
The point was ot was the then Blairite government, it was going against the hard won Grey Book pay formula...the rest is history.
One would imagine ambulance would have been on "green book" local govt grades then
Lost all respect for the fire service because of these strikes and how they treated the forces personnel that were covering for them. Putting peoples lives at risk for personal gain, shysters.
Why should they get paid/treated poorly and have to put up with it in silence? Regardless of job/profession in the UK everyone has the right to strike.
@@nickc9182 not everyone, it’s against the law for the police to strike
If you are a countryside ranger in the U.K. you are legally prevented from going on strike because if you do under British law you can be legally made redundant after you have been on strike in that profession
@@nickc9182 that just isn't true there are certain professions where if you have been on strike the UK government literally can make you redundant after the fact just because you went on strike
You lost all respect but I bet you would be happy to see them if your house was on fire or you are trapped in your car following an accident.
