Big hog fan here, loved this game, especially since we won. Sad though, everytime I see or here the name loyola maymount I think about Hank Gathers. What an awesome player he was. He and Bo Kimble would have been great razorbacks under Nolan Richardson. Sad that Hank with all his talent left this life so soon.
Don't forget Arlyn Bowers and Lenzie Howell. They were juniors on this team, would come up huge in 1990 postseason, especially vs then conference rival Texas in an epic regional final.
Wow. I can't remember this one. I'd been 14 at the time. May/Days first year (the big O too) against a Kimble/Gathers led loyola Marymount team. I'm straight up hog fan my entire life and yes this team here would put some points up and eventually get to final four, but it seemed like every game this Kimble/gathers led team would be hanging 140/150 on someone. I wasn't a fan of theirs, I'm hog through and through, but I'll never forget the video of Hank dying. And just knowing this had happened before but they still allowed him to play. Medicine has come a ways since then, but we weren't in the stone ages. I think greed got in the way. He sure was a hoss. RIP big Hank! Sooiee!!!
At some point, the NCAA decided that college basketball was too fun, and so they had to change the rules. Now we get 51 point thrill-fests with lots of dribbling and foul shooting
+Gee Unit haha I bet he does. It's a shame there aren't any high-scoring games like this anymore. College basketball used to be a lot of fun until about a decade or so ago.
Basketball was not meant to be micromanaged like football. It was meant to be free flowing. Sure inbounding with hardly anytime left is best micromanaged.

Thanks for posting this! I loved that Loyola team growing up, but never saw any of that game before.
They were great fun to watch. This game with the hogs, who were loaded with talent and deep, was quite a track meet.
RIP Hank Gathers
I remember watching this game in my high school library.
You're killing it with these Mayberry-Day-Big O uploads. Keep em coming!

This game had more points at the half than eight of last year's first round game had for the full game.
I work on the Memphis Fire Dept with Aryln Bowers and he is still built like he was in college.

What rule change? This is good old fashioned run and gun. These are seniors! Maybe that's the difference. These guys can shoot!
@@teddywhitaker7248 He's saying he misses this particular style from the late 1980s
LM just thought running with the Razorbacks was a good idea hahaha
love it
I would have loved to play for Loyola Marymount. I bet watching games like these gives Bill Self heart problems

Yeah man. Coaches now think they have to micromanage every single possession. Paul Westhead used to get mad at players for not shooting fast enough.
I was fortunate to see those Loyola Marymount teams in person and it was amazing to watch.

UNLV, LOYOLA MARYMOUNT, ARKANSAS, KENTUCKY, UCLA ALL UTILIZED THE UP TEMPO OFFENSE AROUND THIS TIME. DEFINITELY FUN TO WATCH.
Any chance you have this full game?
Yes.
@@WARMACHINE2013 Would you mind uploading that or sharing it with me? I try to get everything with Loyola Marymount I can find.
@@hilzy9 even this shallacking?
I miss Upper class men playing college ball.

I miss teams having 82 points with 14:42 left in the game.
