How surprising to come across this channel while browsing for videos on low vision technology. The mere presence of the channel is a lesson in the diversity of the global blind community. It isn't hard to imagine why a blind person would get pulled in given the breadth of Maha's academic and professional achievements. Forget the blindness, this guy rocks on so many levels, the most apparent one being his disarmingly relaxed, unaffected conversation. This is someone who speaks to you as if you were sitting in his living room sipping chai. And that's part of the allure: sipping chai with an Egyptian who speaks impeccable American English or Egyptian Arabic on what it's like too blind. It should be no surprise that the frank conversations about being blind would be very familiar to anyone in North America or Europe, but somehow the combination of academic and profession prowess set against an exotic Middle Eastern backdrop are pretty compelling. It's comforting to be invited into Mahal's head because it's a reminder that many of the technical and emotional obstacles are equally shared among the visually impaired community, no matter how distant.

Hi Maha, I just found your channel while searching for a video for my talk. You seem to be telling my story.... I am also RP, PhD in rehabilitation for Macular Degeneration and still doing research on same disease though my central vision is almost lost. Great to see you.

Awesome Maha! Cool you’re starting this channel. I never knew the extent of your vision impairment. Makes your accomplishments in parkour even more impressive. Excited to see more videos from you!
I have a lot of questions haha! Any videos over these topics would be cool :)
What are some of the everyday things that you struggle with due to your vision, and what are the ways you work around it?
Are there ways to naturally improve vision if our eye sight is getting worse?
Are there safe ways to fix or improve eyesight through modern medicine?
What are cool gadgets or tools that can improve vision, help with vision, enhance vision, and etc.?
What are things that make our vision worse?
What are the most common causes for vision impairment?
What are some of the rare disorders that cause vision impairment and how do they affect vision?
How do you do parkour or more advanced training being visually impaired?
    -Jonathan

Thank you so much, Jonathan! Will definitely be covering pretty much all of these topics and more in upcoming videos!
Can't really say I ever got to "advanced" level of training, certainly not in parkour, but possibly in soccer. I actually recently tore my ACL doing parkour (very strange and unlucky accident) so I'll be having the surgery and I'm kind of out for at least 6 months :((( very sad about that... But will be doing my physio and everything in my power to heal and come back quickly!

Legally Blind sorry to hear about the injury. But I know you’ll bounce back :). Naa you got skills, I still remember the first parkour clips you sent to us. So cool. Especially when compared to the general population. And awesome can’t wait to see!

Thank you, this is great! You must be very smart and please keep on adding more videos! My questions are about how do you go about being in big social settings or just in public in general? And how do you go about talking about your vision issue with others?

Um... Awkwardly :D Hahaha! The awkwardness used to bother me a lot and make me self-conscious, but now I sort of care less and accept it... Might just be part of being over 30 years old now! Thanks for the kind words!
