    Used to go there as a kid in the 80s. Go there often now on the bike using the Transpenine Trail. While the area isn't the same as it once was at least it's still countryside and has plenty of wildlife, it's not been destroyed by construction. And it can be enjoyed by people. Lots of care was obviously taken when doing the opencasting to protect the area as much as possible and great they kept the old mill.

    Worked on there with my dad, provided a good living for a lot of hard working local people, Kiveton was never as prosperous!

    Really tragic to do this to beautiful fields no matter what they try to create after that land has been ripped open it will not be the same

      You have obviously never been there and don't know what it was like beforehand....a swamp...you haven't a clue.....

      @@normathomas8276 The land in question is now a huge 750 acre country park visited by millions as well as being full of wildlife with a huge lake providing shelter and nesting for hundreds of birds,instead of a swamp,a huge scrapyard and a lot of derelict land......if you wish to vent your anger at anyone for ripping the land apart may i suggest you aim it at the authorities who give planning permission for thousands of houses to be built on Greenbelt Land..to repeat..you haven't a clue....
