    it's not POSE in Effect
    it's POSSE
    sounds like 'paw-see'
    used like
    "the sheriff and his posse of lawmen are after that fugitive"
    or
    "my posse be consisting of 3 B-Boys who got the rap game on lock"
    in other words, "Posse in Effect"

    Great reaction my brother, remember this is their old, old shit, like they're kids on here, so a lot of it is goofy, party oriented in contrast to the straight up wisdom they drop from Ill communication on. The Beasties are an amazing case, MCA specifically with his transformation into a chilled out Buddhist who knows he's got the ear of the world. RIP MCA.

    • @Pchanizzle

      Not to mention even though Run DMC wrote a couple tracks on this album, Rick Rubin is rumored to have written a lot of these lyrics as well. One of the reasons I think Paul's Boutique is so different (and IMO their best album).

  • @christophernicolini3440
    @christophernicolini3440 3 года назад +14

    I would go back to license to Ill. And progress through. You really seemed to bond with this band, do yourself a favor. Go back in time and be able to see how HipHop/Rap grew to what it is today. What we fans got to appreciate. Don't jump around from album to album. Dude, think about it. Who was doing this back in 1985. I mean they kicked off LL's and Public Enemy's carrier. Other than Grand Master flash and RunDmc who was doing this. Don't get me wrong, there were others but nothing like this album. In all honesty Rick Rubin wanted a Banger Album for College Kids. They grew and created something special with every new album. Everybody in the business copied there beats and started cutting like them. They had to, just to keep up. Call them HipHop / Rap, what ever you want to call it. Beastie Boys would just call themselves M.C.'S .Add Rock said, (We are not A Rap/HipHop group or Rock or Punk , We Are Simply The Beastie Boys) well said sir... GOD Bless you jive ass turkey.

    The line "The needle's in the groove and the vinyl's on the platter' isn't a metaphor for eating the beat. " Platter" is hip hop slang for a turntable. Ad Rock was talking about spinning records.

    An aspect of the Beastie Boys' career that doesn't get enough credit in my book:
    Sure, they had a couple formulaic, pop-style hits which were designed for radio air play, rather than artistic purity (Fight for Your Right, No Sleep Til Brooklyn)... But most of their catalog is inventive, original, and genius.
    Very few artists in any field can make a name with mass-comsumption material, yet retain the purity and integrity to create truly great products. The greats of the game all acknowledge that the nice Jewish boys from Brooklyn had serious hip hop game.
    That truly says something.
