That was some great episode. RIP The Queen who never was
Really cool character who got to go out in a blaze of glory.
@geekinwithJamesHancock do we know she's dead. Could she have survived and washed ashore? Like her husband.
@@bryanlade6147 a blaze of glory.
WOW... WHAT AN EPISODE!!! THE DANCE OF THE DRAGONS HAVE TRULY BEGUN!
Totally. This is what we've all been waiting for. Total insanity from here on out.
I LOVE TO SHOUT
I’ve loved this season so far but this episode blew me the fuck away!
Worth the wait to FINALLY see Sunfyre up close & personal.
WoW! What an episode.
Keep it up! 👍🏻.
It is a pleasure and privilege singing this show's praises. Hopefully they can sustain this level of epic storytelling the rest of the season.
@@geekinwithJamesHancock Couldn’t have said it better myself! 🤞🏻.
An absolute brilliant episode of television. Always love the politicking in this world but nothing is better than a sprinkle of that Thrones spectacle here and there. Ryan Condal has truly done wonders with the material
I wish HBO would hire Ryan Condal to be the showrunner on all future GRRM adaptations.
The dragons look so good!! They spared no expense on those CGI dragons, except when they do close ups of the riders. That looks like the same CGI as the never ending story.
I love how they really sold just how nasty aerial battles can get when two dragons are scratching at each other's bellies. Even if a dragon wins, they are going to pay for the win with their flesh.
The dragons fighting each other brought tears to my eyes.
Is this war necessary?
It's so emotional seeing dragon kill dragon. I'm sad
It is truly horrific watching the dragons battle. Even if a dragon wins, they are going to get a lot of their belly raked open, much to the horror of anyone standing below.
i agree, meleys and sunfyre reminded me of my dogs and the affection that came through them this episode just broke my heart 🥺😭
Rhaneys and Meleys are going to be sorely missed but they went out in legendary fashion.
I love the scene with Rhaynera and Alicent- all these "little scenes" are what are the battles pay off... if we don't care about the little things the battles and what we lose, mean nothing. It's artful storytelling- not just battles
👍👍👍👍👍👍
I am perfectly capable of enjoying a simple dramatic scene and GRRM's book is full of them. What I dislike is when the writers of the show invent something that completely clashes with what comes before and after. Rhaenyra should be far too intelligent to take that sort of risk.
@@geekinwithJamesHancock I hear you and love your channel. I loved the scene, mainly because it takes us back to one of the central relationships the show version has built good deal upon. I also love they are fleshing out a lot more of the layers that the POV the book did note to the way it is framed to be vague, unsure of the truth of the telling. Always great to hear your viewpoints.
Nice review of the actual battle, James. I would just like to add that there were also 3 quick/quiet scenes early on that I thought were fantastic.
1 - I couldn't help but draw parallels to how badly Catlyn Stark always handled the very idea of her husband's bastard. How horribly she treated Jon. Compare that to the attitude Reayns shows towards Alyn in that quiet scene on the docks.
2 - I had no idea Alicent was pregnant with Cole's child, as there's no way a historian could have made note if it in the book. That abortion tea always seems to come in handy.
3 - And finally, the scene that drove Aegon into battle in the first place. "Do what is needed of you ... Nothing" ... that statement from Alicent was almost as violent as what was to follow.
Great ep. Keep up the great reviews, James. I look forward to them every week. -TS
Regarding your first point, I liked that Rheanys said to Alyn that his mother must have been beautiful. I have not read the book, so I don't know what will happen. I wonder if, now that Rheanys is dead, Corrlys will want to honour her last wish and bring Alyn closer. If this happens, I forsee it causing problems for Jace.
Big fan of those 3 scenes as well. And for fans of Alyn and his brother, the best is yet to come. Perhaps not this season, but he has some great scenes in the book to look forward to.
The crown lands
The dance begins
Indeed. We've been waiting patiently and this climax seriously delivered above and beyond my expectations.
@@geekinwithJamesHancock props to the writers who slow burned the gravity of dragons fighting. Akin to atomic weapons.
HOUSE OF THE DRAGON WAS PHENOMENAL 🔥🩸⚔️💪🏼 THE BATTLE WAS HEARTBREAKING AND EPIC!!! IM SHOCKED BRAVO HBO 👏 The Queen who never was 🥂 #HouseOfTheDragon
I LOVE TO SHOUT
@whoknew2273 I believe the words you're looking for are CAPITAL LETTERS
@@beantownbrandon302 yes but you are shouting and putting your point in capital letters says more about you then your actual point
@whoknew2273 I've never seen such a deep analysis of a comment I made LOL certainly didn't expect it, or even have it on my bingo card 😅 anyways you have anything to say about my thoughts or comments, or did you just wanted to pick on me for my use of capital letters 🤔 or Annoyance I've clearly put upon you. Or you just want to bitch at me because you hate the world
@@beantownbrandon302 To tell you the truth I think your more wound about it then me . I just find it baffling that someone would bother more about shouting there opinion on something they watched then . I think you clearly have some sort insecurity over not been heard . But oh well you carry on just an opinion in the end .
HotD ep. 4 was FIRE !!!
Destined to be a classic for fans of this world. They really went above and beyond.
Stunning Episode 😮
I'm left speechless
Great Episode
I felt the same way. A total blast.
A little detail I loved, when Larys side eyed the abortion potion bottle. "Mmmmm...That is a rich indulgence."
That was amazing!!! This whole interaction.
Such a cool character. Perfectly cast.
youre comparison about maelys reminding you of your dogs was the same i felt. when i saw that moment on screen, all the dogs ive had flashed in front of my eyes. its that turning of the head to look at their partner that destoyed me. the showrunner knows that feeling as well. it was really moving
Vaghar is a 'she' dragon, I believe.
That's my understanding as well, but there are rumors that dragons can change their sex when it comes to laying eggs.
I believe Alan Taylor can do a great The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen film. True to the Alan Moore eroticism of the comics.
I enjoyed his films including Legend of Tarzan. At least he made it better than most filmmakers.
I'd give my right arm for a proper adaptation of The League of Extraordinary Gentleman. I read it obsessively over and over again.
@@geekinwithJamesHancock Nice. I would if I can find em in my closet. 😆
Hmmm. I thought it was established the targyreans are not truly fire proof but I just dont find it believable that the dragonriders could brush off dragonfire (which melted Harrenhal) with just some cartoon soot on their face
They are definitely not fire-proof as we'll see whenever the show decides to show us Aegon's new look.
At this point, I could almost care less about Greens vs. Blacks, I just want more Dragons.. This Ep Rekindled that rush when seeing Dragonslayer for the first time as a kid in the cinema..
I lost track of how many times I watched Dragonslayer on HBO back in the day. Here's a link to a podcast I did about that amazing movie: wrongreel.com/podcast/wr610-five-fantasy-freaks-slain-by-dragonslayer-1981/
The dragon battle we have been waiting 13 years for.
Hell yeah. For fans of GRRM's work, the climax seriously delivered above and beyond my expectations.
Aemond using that sneak attack again
He's the master at hiding that big ass dragon in unlikely places.
@@geekinwithJamesHancock Him and Daemon will be a battle I am not sure who has the bigger dragon
finally, some action here!
Hell yes. Everyone's patience is now paying off.
Right out of the gate you should have mentioned that Alan Taylor was a director on The Sopranos. That speaks volumes.
Oh the tragedy! How many lives could Rhenys have saved by incinerating the whole Aegon coronation last season😢
I was worried towards the end that we'd not get any dragon action. And boy, howdy did we get some dragon action. The aftermath of the first nuke bombs dropped is going to be interesting.
Totally. Both sides have taken a major loss. Time to go totally psycho.
@geekinwithJamesHancock oh yeah. T h e tit for tat amongst the high born is growing. Don't even want to think about the small folk loses.
@@geekinwithJamesHancock I mean, if they follow Martin's text SPOILERS only one side has taken a major loss SPOILERS.
Henry!
Thanks, James. Great episode.
Henry is dearly missed but lives on in Vhagar.
Pretty good episode that's what good about the two shows is when they have a few builder episodes when it comes to battles it pays off (not GOT later seasons)
Anytime Alan Taylor is in the director's chair, we can expect a massive payoff.
Aemond is a true Targaryen my fav character
He's definitely the MVP of this season. Totally lethal and ruthless. It's easy to see how his ancestors were able to conquer Westeros back in the day.
Finally some dragon action!!
Big time. I rewatched the episode as soon as I was posted my review.
Vhagar said “hold up, let me cook”
lol, precisely
Team Green 🤘🏼is so much fun. Sir Criston “Friend Zone” Cole and Aemond totally punk’d out Rhaeneyra by taking out her best girl. The council around Aegon II (who smells like sock 🧦 dipped in 6 train juice, wrapped in burnt bacon) is siooooo much smarter, better tacticians. Rhaeneyra is a pure politician and a bad one at that.
And Meleys was also the biggest dragon on Team Black. Vhagar is going to be increasingly gnarly to contend with even if Sunfyre got crippled and mangled in the process. But I totally agree that Team Green has become much more entertaining this season even if I'm rooting all the way for Team Black.
When a dragon dies you cry. I care more about them than the riders.
please don't let aegon survive
His final fate is in the hands of George R.R. Martin but you won't be disappointed.
Great episode!! 🐉 🐲
I'm liking but not loving this show, it was the best episode so far but If HBO wanted better figures for this why did they release it mid summer when a lot of people are out doing stuff instead of sat in front of TV every night? Wonder what they have for us this winter?
This Winter I suspect they'll unleash Season 3 of The White Lotus, but I need to check the release schedule to confirm. I don't mind having this show to enjoy throughout the summer. Keeps me distracted from the sub-par movie schedule.
@@geekinwithJamesHancockI am looking forward to Deadpool💚🇬🇧🌱 really hope it doesn't suck...🤞
Savage episode!
This is why the fantasy genre has been my favorite form of storytelling throughout my entire life.
@@geekinwithJamesHancock at times I’m transported to Moorcock’s Elric or even Conan or Solomon Kane..there’s shades of all sorts in there. The writing, directing, everything has gone to another level. That said, I agree completely about the stupid meeting at the end of the 3rd episode, but as you say a minor glitch.
Great episode.
I immediately rewatched it after posting my review. And I'll definitely be watching the battle at Rook's Rest a few more times. Glorious stuff.
@@geekinwithJamesHancock I listened to the audio book of fire and blood after watching the episode. The battle at Rooks Rest is just a few sentences. I like the changes the show made and how the battle was choreographed. I think whatever issues I have with these last few episodes will make a lot more sense once I view the season as a whole. The show definitely has its work cut out because they have fill out a lot that George just described in a sentence or two.
Finally
I thought they might use this battle as the season finale but I don't mind getting my dessert early.
I still think the second episode is still my favorite. But still this season isn’t hitting as hard as season one for me. I miss viserys😢
The absence of Viserys is a tough hole to fill. Perhaps the best work of Paddy Considine's career.
You can check out AAVESHAM
One of the best film this year
Thanks for the heads up! Looking up the trailer now.
I have loved this show so far, but this was f'ing excellent. Aemond is a PROBLEM...And my favorite player in this conflict.
@2ndprize-g7t ???not really relevant to my comment.
I'm right there with you. Aemond is a true Targaryen. It is easy to see how his ancestors Aegon, Visenya and Rhaenys were able to take over all of Westeros.
Very sad c princess die she was the one character i loved there r not enough of good compared to GOT . They shouldnt of killed her. There is no one else i care about. Bummer
Well that's a major scene from the book and if they had not used it, that would have had a ripple effect through the rest of the story. Tough to portray a blood civil war without a few dramatic casualties.
I'm not sure I'm into dragon fights; too damn anxiety-inducing. 😅
I’m scared 😱 to watch it.
Already watched it twice and I'll definitely be watching the climax multiple times.
What happened to Ser Glywnn
Alicent's brother Gwayne? If they follow the book, he survived and has some interesting chapters ahead of him.
how many episode left?
4
4 this season. Sadly this season is shorter than season 1.
Anyone else not like Rheanys after the coronation. Shes so self rightous and good then killed all those people for completely no reason.
This season has definitely struggled with Rhaenyra and Daemon's story lines. I love both characters but hopefully the writers can put them to better use in the second half of the season.
@@geekinwithJamesHancock not looking good so far for Daemon
That wasn't heroic that was stupid live to find another day 🤦🏽
