0.078 x 64 = 4.992/64" So you might as well say 5/64" I absolutely love McMaster-Carr. I saw your video and went downstairs to get some 7/64", 7/64 = 0.109375" A2 Tool steel round stock I had sitting in the basement, that I purchased a while back for handle pins for lock picks, but never used them. Made my first round stock type tension wrench. Good video (+1)
You’re correct in saying the modelling knife idea is already done. That’s for sure and Southord, among others, make their beautiful Pocket Pen NPS 2000 with different detachable clip tensioners and a host of picks inside for a very reasonable price. I find it too long and I don’t get the same feel, but many will like it.
Bike spokes I hear are great, Another good rounded wire are those from inside of an umbrella. So if you ever pass a bin on a windy day and find one that is inverted due to wind, take it home and cut the rounded inserts out ;o)
Exellent homebrew stuff well thought ideas love the quick tip picks nice handle them tension wrenches for t.o.k.w. are exellent they look well made and some thinking put behind them definately a thumbs up frm me
Great stuff! I made a few tension wrenches from bicycle spokes. I want to get piano wire and make some like you have as well. The exacto handle was a great tip too.
LockPicking Nik Thanks! Another advantage is that you don't need nearly as much material to make the picks. I can get about 20 picks out of 1 piece of feeler gauge!
Hi Subsonic 1050 , although your idea has been done. If I were you , I would still run with that idea! I've been picking now for about 4 months. I really enjoy the hell out of it. This is the first of your video that I've seen. So , my comment in the beginning my be redundant! If so I apologize! But I like your style my friend!
thanks for posting...you likely have done many interations of the handle (I had the same original idea today, haha)...how about cutting the exacto handle short and tight fitting a tube over top of it with a thread cut for a cap on the but end?...God bless...doug
@subsonic1050 M a complete newbie... And m interested in making these picks... Where do i get the templates and what are the dimension of each of those...
Would you be willing to make and sale some of the picks and tension tools you make. im a certified locksmith and would like to try others tools. I have Hpc pick set and one Peterson pry bar
Subsonic1050 Sweet, thank you. Do you think a dremel would be strong enough to do it? Looking for an inexpensive, but effective way of trying to make some my self. Thank you, again.
I'm positive a dremel COULD do it. The thing is that the stainless steel is pretty tough stuff. It will take you awhile. It may also be awkward to grind the pick while holding a tool, rather than holding the pick and grinding against something stationary. Either way, a dremel could definitely do it. Go for it!
for you pocket pick set, use a slighter bigger diameter tube and a reducer so you can still use the Exacto part. You load the picks from the bottom and use a screw to close to. Look at a Kwikpick for idea on how to how the tension wrench on it.
Subsonic1050 The kwick pick is good but only comes with a snake rake and it is thick. Been meaning to make a diamond for it for years but now thinking a Bogota would be better.
+Subsonic1050 I love the ideas with the quick pics. I got a quick pic pen from H&H for $18 +$4 shipping from UKBumpkey. So there is your price point. Keep the vids coming (+1)
This is just what I was looking for. A good tension wrench makes all the difference in the world. Great video. Thank you for taking the time.
Just getting into this hobby & think I'll get a lot of mileage out of that double-bent tension wrench you detailed. Thanks!
Awesome vid love the idea of diy tools

WOW those piano wire tensioners look great. Love the picks too
waddac2 Thanks Waddac! They really aren't difficult to make, but they are super effective.
I have some wire a bit like that from work to play with so will have a go at something
waddac2 I'm sure any very tough and hard wire would work. I know some people use bicycle spokes
Bike spokes I hear are great, Another good rounded wire are those from inside of an umbrella. So if you ever pass a bin on a windy day and find one that is inverted due to wind, take it home and cut the rounded inserts out ;o)
waddac2 I had never heard that before! I will certainly try that!

Outstanding work.
Great stuff! I made a few tension wrenches from bicycle spokes. I want to get piano wire and make some like you have as well. The exacto handle was a great tip too.
Nice Picks and Wrenches!
And the knifehandle is a great Idea, I didn't know they are multipurpose. :)
LockPicking Nik Thanks! Another advantage is that you don't need nearly as much material to make the picks. I can get about 20 picks out of 1 piece of feeler gauge!
FYI - they make a larger Exacto handle in aluminum. . I have one here that's .4350"
Try the larger sized exacto handle. It might allow you to fit the pick ends in it.

Not seen your channel before. Very interesting!
On that yale will a dimple pick get in there on the higher cut ones?
Really good stuff and ideas.
bjmulli Hey thanks bjmulli - I just subbed your channel as well!
Hey thanks.

Very nice stuff.
Thanks Jeff! It is very rewarding to make your own stuff.
Have you improved upon this tensioner concept since posting this video?
You’re describing exactly a “Dyno Kwick Pick” dude... It’s even spring loaded lol
I made this video in 2014 bro - that was before the Dyno Kwick Pick came out. Dude.
Lock Pick maker in the U.K. called, Madbob shapes those on top tensioners S shaped. Some say it's much better
Regards. U.K.
I have some of Madbob's tensioners and find them completely unusable. It's all personal preference I guess!
@@Subsonic-cd2en ... Yes. Having a small workench is a great aid

Those turned out really nice man, what did you use to cut them out?
A small little bench grinder from harbor freight. Super underpowered, but it got the job done at the time!

Subsonic1050 Yea that's very true. I will give it a shot and see how it goes. Thank you again for the help.
Can the dimensions of these tools
Music wire .078 inches.

That is nearly exactly what I already had in mind - too bad that something like that is already being made!
