For a reminder for the kids that weren't around back then. My 486DX2-66 had an early Soundblaster sound card that included the IDE controller for the CD-ROM drive, and the joystick port.
Reminds me of a 486 DX100 I had back in the day. I put it together from used components back when pentiums were current and got it for a song. I remember putting a Visa local bus card in there that I was literally just given for free out of a junk pile from a computer store when I asked if they had any. That thing could run primal rage and X-Men children of the atom beautifully not to mention Doom and monkey Island. It could even run quake at a reasonable frame rate. Though I don't think I got the full experience until I had a Pentium 166
These bot commenters are becoming harder and harder to distinguish. It’s only when they slip up like this where there is no real “intro” for this video that you can tell that it’s a bot. Such a plague on the internet
Hi Josh! That definitely reminded me of the old days when I had to fiddle with the driver locations like you did to get my device to work! It was always so satisfying to get it working after all the frustration. I would usually let out a big "WooHoo" after that!
Hi Josh! You always amaze me with the Tech you find. The butterfly keyboard, and now this. I've been in the IT industry for about 30 years, and never knew these existed. I guess "back in the day" I always played my games on a desktop with a joystick. I used to work for Mack Trucks WHQ and we had plenty of Toshiba Tecra's and Satellite Pro's for our mobile workforce, and I'm guessing they never needed a joystick port. Ha ha! Thanks again!!
I scored TWO of these back in 2016 (still have them both) when some guy was selling a bunch of them on ebay for like $10 or $15 each. Once those were sold out, they immediately became super rare. The other super cool, kind of similar thing I picked up around the same time was a PowerAmpMite controller - it plugs into the purple PS/2 keyboard port and acts as a keyboard, but is a gamepad, and its buttons can be mapped to any keys...also a neat way to add a gaming controller to an old laptop. These are also very rare but do occasionally show up on ebay and usually go for cheap when they do.
So neat to check out! I like how you effortlessly set up the game consoles and I get confused just trying to use the Nintendo switch lol 😂 Nice job having a sense of humor about how difficult the game port set up is, I imagine that must be a pain waiting for it to work
That’s awesome! Glad it worked! It’s a frustrating installation process for sure, but I’m glad I could help!! It took me a long time to figure out, so I thought I’d make a video about it.
I HAVE heard of it unfortunately, because I've been hunting for one since 2013. . I've given up now because I've got a port replicator for my Toshiba 460CDT.
They are definitely hard to find. I had a saved eBay search for one and then paid too much for it, but it is nice to have. Port replicators are good too.

Seriously the coolest intro on RUclips, watch for that alone!

Great video! Love seeing you try the games on different computers. Awesome pac man shirt

Old laptops are so cool! Great video.
Just want to say thank you! Your Installation Challenges helped me get mine working on my Compaq Armada running Win 95. Same exact issue you showed.

Mostly reasonably orice...😂 very cool!

Such a fun hobby!
Late to the Party. Another great vlog and interesting learning experience by Josh Nelson 👏👏👏. Thanks again for all your hard work Josh
Thanks to this video, I decided to get one of these for myself, and I can’t wait to try it out on my Libretto and other vintage laptops.
Nice! Have you found one yet? Good luck!
@@retrotv1tech I did! Shipping and all, I paid nearly $170 hahaha
@@retrotv1tech Not sure why my comment disappeared but yes I ordered one last night!
@@nyccollin that’s awesome! Sorry it disappeared. RUclips does weird things sometimes. Lol
@@retrotv1techNo problem I understand! I ended up paying around $168 total with shipping haha.
Great job, Josh! I enjoyed watching! 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is cool
I have a Toshiba Satellite 440CDX running Windows 95. This might work on it if drivers are available.
Drivers are definitely available, they’re just tricky. Lol

@retrotv1tech how much is the game port worth? I have one and can't find much info on it
@krisy5148 Depends on what you mean by gameport, The pcmcia card or the Toshiba port replicator?
Definitely heard of it, but I’m an old goober
I figured a few people may have heard of it. :-). Nice!
