I visited the Big Pit on the way back to Birmingham having had a weekend in Cardiff about twenty years ago. I was looking forward to it, having read and seen the pit from the outside due to my job at the time (HGV driver), but having got all the way up to Blaenavon, we found the pit was closed that day for maintenance. Two years ago I actually visited the Garden of Remembrance at Aberfan, another site I had seen before, and also the Welsh National and Universal Mining Memorial Garden at Senghenydd, but did not have the time to go back to the Big Pit. Hopefully I may do it soon.
Hi David, that is horrible I have heard that the big pit does sometime close with out warning, I would recommend you go it’s an incredible experience and a great day out
I would highly recommend going back and doing the underground mine tour, it is a once in a lifetime opportunity I feel😊 thank you so much for your comment!!
Could not continue watching. The sound levels were all over the place, either just about audible, but then turning up the volume made some of the sound track much too loud.
Hi Alan, really sorry to hear that, I have just watched through the video and didn’t experience any audio problems, did you watch the video with headphones or speakers?
@@Seanyping The very low volume was using the built in laptop speakers. Switching over to a Bose bluetooth connected speaker I could turn the volume up to normal audible levels but with a risk of blowing my eardrums out if a loud sound was suddenly transmitted. Not an ideal situation having to respond extremely quickly if that happened before I could turn the volume level down.
Very interesting. But the camera needs to be moved around MUCH more slowly, so we can actually see & appreciate what is there, rather than it just disappearing in a blur...
THANK YOU!!!
I HAVE VISITED IT IN 2009!!!
It’s a great place

Excellent place, so interesting and really shows the pride the men had in what they did and what they were doing for the country. Wonderful video!!

The machine that you don't know which is top or bottom is a double ended treppanner for thin seam coal cutting.
That is so interesting thank you for sharing 🙌
Bilingual staff would be a further asset. I've been there a number of times.
