Little did they know 90s kids would obsess over jdm car styling 20 years later lmao

Eh, it reminds me of a Nissan maxima in person.
Very funny how the skyline aged to be a very good looking car. In fact most old Jdm cars did. Styling got more crazy and curvy today and people really like the boxy simple look now. But back then it was probably different.
I can imagine people in 20 yrs liking the car designs we have now even if we don't completely lol
@@krizmasekIt'll happen. I didn't even like how cars looked back in the 90s and 2000s but I love the style now. I'm sure many who are growing up watching the new type r take record laps around the nurburgrin will find themselves lusting after it when they turn 19 or 20. Then it'll go up on price
That is my car. It was one of the first to be 'grey' imported into the UK and is still running. I have owned the car for the past 20 years, and I know a large part of it's history.
It was used as a fully stripped-out racer and has been round Nürburgring a few times.
She is currently undergoing full restoration and new paint job. It was originally Gunmetal but will be turned into a gloss black beast.
Number 114 off the production line, so it has the original N1 block. Had lots of work done over the years, mostly by AbbeyMotorsports.
I think the ashtray is still original!

when clarkson said that the r32 was boring... make sense tbh, in the early and mid 90's the r32 compared to cars like the Porsche 911 of that era, the Porsche will take on the looks any day of the week. a local car reviewer said that "the Skyline GTR is an incredible car, maybe even the best car ever made, but show this to a person who never heard of Skyline, or G, T, and R, to them this is just another old Nissan." and I'm inclined to agree, even if i am an R fan myself.
Come to Australia. The R32 GTR is king of the road and 98% of car people know what it is as it dominated over here.
I think most people know about the R32 these days.
The Porsche 911 looks like a tryhard that fails to achieve true aesthetics, the GTR, although the grill and headlights need work, was much more aesthetically pleasing. Fortunately Nissan perfected the exterior with the R34. New Porsches look like....old Porsches with modern paint/steel/plastic and slightly different proportions. The new GTR was it's own animal as far as styling, although it's waaay overpriced and it's way overdue for a refresh. That's why I loved the GTR as a version of the skyline or the Chevelle as a version of the Malibu, it made for affordable beasts. In today's dollars a 1991 GTR would cost 60 grand, the same as a C8 Corvette. But NOOO Nissan wants almost TWICE that. So they took a Japanese muscle car that had huge cult following and decided to price it like a supercar even though it's not. You can build it into a near supercar but it'd cost more money than just buying a slightly used supercar, so it only appeals to rich dudes with a JDM fetish which is a niche market.
@@neuronaut8030 new 911's are as well far from their old design... i don't know what you mean by ''Porsche 911 looks like a tryhard that fails to achieve true aesthetics'' tho

It could well be the pedestrian safety legislation. Somewhere in the first two seasons of Clarkson/Wilman TG, Clarkson brings in two car designers. He laments about how pedestrian safety legislation means you can never get the shapes you got on those days ever again.
Although if you ask me, I wish Autobacs Sport Laboratory actually brought to mass production the Garaiya and the RS-01.
I still like it.......well people have different opinions and i respect that

The R32 is a masterpiece
Always liked the understated nature of the Skyline. Anyone who didn't know about cars, wouldn't give it a second glance, petrolheads would worship it.
Crazy that with 1000 horse did 0-60 in 2.8 when the first gen R35 did the same thing with around half that horse power. It’s so beautiful to see innovation at work.
Gearbox and final drive gear do all the magic when it's about 0-60
WHAT ARE THEY SAYING THE R32 LOOKS PERFECT ITS MY FAVOURITE CAR EVEN IN TERMS OF LOOKS
I honestly think it should stay like that, because it looks understated and unsuspecting. It also looks simple but aggressive.
yeah im not even the biggest japanese car fan and i think it looks great. very modernist and simplistic, crisp straight lines and simple geometry. a car doesnt need tons of complicated curvatures to be good looking
Its beautiful! Clarkson is just a nutter
You're saying this now. But think about people's opinion in the 90s when the R32 was new. Compared to European exotics of that era like the 959, F40, Testarossa, Countach, Diablo etc the Skyline does look very dull.
@@longtailgt just like your mother vey dull
THE best car I ever owned , was only a mild tune 420 bhp , but what a car !
Sold it in 2016 , gutted!🤮... saw than JUN gtr at York dragway, guy rocked up with 2 kids in the back and did one run , a10.09 qtr mile!!
Atleast you made someone in 2016 very very happy
In my opinion, the R32 is one of the most beautiful looking car and all the other GTRs
I honestly agree like I love the look of the skylines but it makes sense what he said. the look of a new gtr can actually be compared to the look of a new 911 but back then a r33 almost looked like a s14 zenki from the front. But I guess now jeremy got proven wrong cause kids now think supras and r34s are cooler than lamborghinis.
as we all should
The r33 is just beautiful, My favorite skyline by far.
Even the cars in the back ground are cool
Damn Jeremy straight up roasted Japan @2:40 lol
1000 hp back in the 90s is fucking mental.
Jeremy Clark’son is from the wrong era to think japans aesthetic is one of the sickest in the world, the skyline is insane and has an absolutely classic look
I drove a Porsche 944 turbo and S2, Toyota Supra, TVR Griffith (scary) and then the Skyline GTR, and the Skyline was just on another level, an incredible car.
It still looks amazing in 2020 my brother had one

2 sounds that makes me happy, a skyline accelerating and an a10 firing its cannon. Pure pleasure.
Nice
0:43 Nice 5 gen celica
I really like how the skyline looks
Agreed on the R32 GT-R styling, back in the day nothing special, just fatter fenders and more spoiler on an ordinary car. Keep in mind that most Skylines were sold as a sort of middle of the road large family car to conservative, older Japanese people, had small 2.0 or 2.5 liter non-turbo engines, no wings, no fender flares and over half of them had 4 doors. But you know fashions change, people don't remember that all cars at one point were kind of derivative boxes on wheels and kind of looked like the much vaunted skyline.

Anyone wondering where Jeremy Clarkson reviewed the Jun R33? His review was filmed at the Crail Raceway in Fife, Scotland just south of St Andrews.
Wow very interesting
2:12 idk, there's something about him parking swiftly like that that just makes the car look cooler. maybe it's that he slowed down pretty quickly at the end but without shocking the whole car using the brakes while doing so..

I LOVE GT-R
Japan is my dream destination.
On our honeymoon we spent one night in a bar in Kyoto listening to a passionate argument between an old Japanese mechanic and a young English engineer. Each was vehemently arguing that the other's country made better cars.
The mechanic longed to work on things that looked like E-types, Lotuses and Astons. The engineer wanted cars to actually work, or at least be logical to work on when they didn't.
This car still looks beautiful in 2022!
I agree
I love that jeremys voice isnt as deep and he tries to do his low voice and cant do it, now over the years hes the master of low vocal range talking 😂
because of smoking
I respect Every car even a Toyota Yaris but this. This is it.
The R-32 is very beautiful, but not everyone can see it!
I totally agree
The fact it was new back then is crazy
Japanese performance/sports cars were built to look that way because they were meant to be blank canvases for the myriad of bodykits that was such a culture during that era.
If there was one exemption of a Japanese car from that era that has aged incredibly well tho from a looks perspective in stock trim... has to be the RX7 and maybe the MR2

I can remember when Z cars were ugly because they carried that 'Datsun' Stigma. Now, Datsun's are so cool to look at.
We were the Stevie Wonders of Car appreciation back then. Blinded by Italian styling.
You just couldn't see it, but now...I'd give my right b'llock for a 240Z.
A few years after I got my Skyline, a Ken and Mary came up for sale in the UK for 9k. Thought about buying but didn't bother.
