It is crazy how Juan Manuel Marquez survived those 3 knockdowns in the first round. Although it is said Manny hurt his left hand in the process and had to endure the pain the whole fight. Seeing Marquez with a bloody nose is like a preview to the Pacquiao-Marquez 4 fight. Where Marquez yet again survived and finally got the KO victory. Time flies, I can't believe this was 19 years ago.

Pacquiao also knocked Marquez down for the first time with the same set up Marquez countered to KO him in the 4th fight. Very poetic indeed
This really was a historic fight. Pacquiao crashed in on the Mexican Triad in the lightweight divisions and challenged everyone. Marquez was being avoided by both Barrera and Morales but Manny simply did not care about losing. By fighting all these different styles, he became the best in the division and eventually a world class boxer.
In another perspective, Juan Manuel Márquez was NEVER afraid of Pacquiao unlike countless others. Always felt he was robbed, so he chased Pacquiao throughout his career until he got his convincing win. Amazing.
@@ligmaballs0911 I don't believe that was ever quite the case. Except one boxer, everyone was lining up to fight Pacquiao. They all thought they could beat him easy. Even bully him in the ring because of his size and the fact that he shouldn't even be in that weight class. Mayweather was the only guy smart enough not to underestimate Pac. Close fights are always robberies depending on who you thought should have won.

The same thing happened to Morales… you notice after the 3rd knockdown, he’s not hurt, he’s frustrated. Even for even a second, he probably thought of calling it quits. It makes you mad. You’re not hurt, but you keep falling. Unfortunately, Morales said “I’m done”. I’m glad Marquez didn’t.
Though 3 knockdowns in a row, whether your hurt or not, will just DESTROY any confidence you’ve ever had.
By far, this is the best boxing match I've ever seen. Two legends, two champions. I like them both. Respect.

One thing that also makes a fight amazing is when the commentators know boxing and ain't baised, brilliant fight and excellent commentary
I'd say Marquez was the reason Pacquiao become the boxer that he is.
Pacquiao always overwhelmed his opponents with this speed and power, but Marquez took all that, survived, and picked him apart through proper, technical boxing.
Pacquiao was forced to evolve from that slugger style into a more complete boxer. After this fight, and every other fight between him and Marquez, you'll see the changes Pacquiao makes in his style of boxing.
Such an important fight for both of these athletes. I miss the days when it was Pacquiao versus the entire Mexican boxing hall of fame.

Pacquiao's lightning fast left straight was in full display here putting Marquez on the seat of his pants 3 times and it can't get any better than this. Awesome.
Márquez getting up that third time showed what a true champion he is. Respect to both fighters legends.
It’s funny; you can easily argue that either Pacquiao or Marquez should have won this fight - the one judge should have scored the first round 10-6, so Pacquiao got robbed. But Marquez also may have won 9 or 10 of the 12 rounds, so he sort of got robbed, at least by the 115-110 scorecard for Manny.
Facts. The 115-100 card was ridiculous. In my opinion, this was close to a draw, but could easily lean to Pacquiao slightly. My issue was with the 2nd and 3rd matches. Marquez improving in each, but getting scored worse was dumb.
The third knockdown shouldn't have been called. Pacquiao hit him when he aas on the ground with his arm trapped.
Pacquiao should have been deducted 1 point bc he punched Márquez while he was still on the canvas after knockdown number 3
I was at this fight in Vegas. I was wearing a Calgary Flames jersey and sitting beside a dude waving a Mexican flag all night. I remember being pissed because I thought I'd just paid $300 for a first round knockout lol. IMO - Marquez won more rounds but those three knockdowns gave Manny the fight. If the judge, Burt Clements, had scored he first round correctly (10-6) Pacquiao would have won the decision. It was an awesome fight.

In the 2nd round you could see Marquez making an effort to slip Pacquiao's straight left, and it really helped him set up his counters. Pacquiao, although powerful, was a little too left hand reliant.

One scorecard should have scored Pacquiao in the first round a little higher, and another scorecard should have given Marquez one or two rounds a bit higher. Paquiao’s boxing style and strategy was totally disrupted after the 3rd round. He slowed down as never seen in his carreer and kept raising both arms out of frustration. He really took a beating from Márquez. You can clearly hear Freddy Roach knowing they were losing the fight, Paquiao’s face like he didn’t know what was going on.

One Judge made a Mistake in Scoring Round 1. . . He scored 10-7 . . . it should be 10-6 for Pacquiao.
