Very nice. Pretty file work on the details. A couple of suggestions: The finish on the wood is much easier if you do it on the lathe. You can get a nice finish and it is much faster. A bit of boiled linseed oil or shellac and it will dry before you can get it off the lathe. Some of the features you made would have been easier forged than cut like the tang and socket for the bar.
+David Kirtley Thank you! Normally I do finish on the lathe but as the lathe is at my grandfathers shop I didn't have any boiled linseed oil at hand so I finished it afterwards at home. I agree that the tang and socket would be easier to forge but when I was forging I didn't have the actual plan or the dimensions so I only roughly forged the top bar and nothing else. If I were to do it again I would probably forge a lot more of the parts.
After seeing this I say great job making it. Also after seeing it to the end my main question would be which weighs more your fret saw,or your blacksmith hammer?
Its a shame you can buy a made in china fret saw for £5. It saps the practical justification for making stuff yourself when it ends up being cheaper to buy it. That said that saw is a work of art as well as useful.
It must be wonderful to have a tool box full of tools you made yourself. Well done. Keep it up it is fabulous to see such fine workmanship
+Alan Byrne Thanks a lot!
Wow! Really impressive! Props to you for making something like that out of nothing!
+Dutchhorse Thank you very much!
So glad no one took the time to explain none of this is possible in a garage shop!! :-0) Nice job...no stopping you
Check out "the small workshop" he does basically the same thing in a space the size of a closet. Just search the small workshop/coping saw build.

That's a damn nice saw, and a great video too. There's not enough videos about hand metal work on the internet.

+Rainbows871 Yep I agree but I don't make these small tools to save money, I make them because of the challenge and for the fun of it.
