      For Mongolian nomads or yurt dwellers in Ulaanbaatar where I live, 200 dollars is a month’s wages. That’s a lot. Biolite should make something for yurts at 25% of the price. One that will work with brown coal preferably.

    Great review. My wife and I were at REI this past weekend and I was showing this to her....she said "we need that"...so that's all I needed to hear. after seeing your review this will be purchased in the near future. I have the whole cook stove set up from BioLite, so know it's a good product. Thanks for your video

  • @axelfoleyt

    It seems to address the main eeriness of the smaller model: the need to feed small pieces of wood every few seconds.

  • @markswarbrick9052
    @markswarbrick9052 5 лет назад

    You did a better review than the manufacturer! I am not sure its a fatal flaw. Thermal couplers are fickle and are hard to control with such a large amount of heat. You are right. This is a fantastic idea for glamping or RV and boondocking! To be honest I love smoking foods with lots of smoke. But the epiphany is this works for foods that normally would need a propane bottle. There is the savings.. thanks....

    Get the ATG's smokeless solar tube stove for under $70.00. It goes by many names.
    I cook in bright sun /or I placed ATG's indoor near window to get free heat in the winter.
    This is basically a battery and a fan blowing into confined coal or wood for $200.00!

  • @CanadianPrepper
    @CanadianPrepper 6 лет назад +3

    Hot review Im disappointed its not thermoelectric but still a very practical (most practical) portable wood cooking bbq out there. The solostove bonfire still wins as a firepit but this has its own unique features which make it worth looking at.

    • @livingsurvival
      @livingsurvival  6 лет назад +2

      Canadian Prepper I don’t really know how to justify the $300 of the bonfire since it doesn’t do much. Mine is still in the box.

    • @SassyMil
      @SassyMil 3 года назад +1

      I'd be interested to know your thoughts on why the solostove bonfire wins as a fire pit My concern with the solostove is the lack of radiant heat? I've heard the heat travels straight up meaning you can't sit around it and keep cosy so much. Thoughts?

  • @ChadMorgan709
    @ChadMorgan709 6 лет назад +1

    Pretty cool idea, as all of the biolite gear is. I think the price is reasonable considering how much the little twig stoves are. It is too bad that it doesn't charge itself or have a lid, but aside from that its pretty damn cool.

  • @FuttFel
    @FuttFel 6 лет назад +27

    To me, this is a bit of a missed opportunity. Why does it not recharge itself like the regular stoves they make? To me, that's a fatal flaw, the fact that you have to rely on a battery you have to take home to recharge. The ability to create power from fire would make it perfect for use at a summer house/cabin, at a basecamp etc.

    • @livingsurvival
      @livingsurvival  6 лет назад +2

      FuttFel solar is easy peasy

    • @Moostery
      @Moostery 6 лет назад

      Yeah if you are carrying something this big and bulky chances are you can afford to carry a small solar panel too. However I still think it's lame af that it doesn't have a peltier unit in it. They are dirt cheap.

    • @dpotts
      @dpotts 6 лет назад +2

      I hear ya on that one. I’ve literally never had to charge my biolite stove and that just makes it even more awesome of a product. I was hoping this thing could serve as a sort of car camping generator since a fire pit would burn a lot longer typically. But I’m sure there are some hurtles to overcome. I don’t know how well they can scale that thermal power production, and I’m sure this draws a lot more power than a little camp stoves. And even if they could scale it up, I’m sure it would be expensive.

      My solar cover came as part of the Kickstarter package for the $200. We just got all the parts needed to get ours together today and are looking forward to cooking with it this weekend. I wanted something we could use to cook on when the power was out, that would recharge other devices (I also bought two of their solar panels and one of the camp lights as this was part of a Christmas gift for my husband), and would be a cool campfire on our new deck (we're going to use a fire resistant pad under it).
