@Mirokuofnite I always try to keep it vague, I've visited the site, and it's a place where you need permission to go from the property owner, it's close to Millerton lake about two miles from the site ( under the lake) where fort Millerton once stood. narrow trail in it would have been a death ride trying to apprehend him. He had the high ground and the trail to protect him. He also had a hide out in the San Joaquin River gorge area which is literally a short hike from my house.

Ohhh WOW, this was so cool. I just thought he was a bandit! I never knew the enigma known as Black Bart. On one side, he did steal money, but on the other side, he used an unloaded gun, wrote poetry, didn't steal from passengers, and seemed to have his own moral code.🙃😉🤔

Long ago, I heard Black Bart was once a school teacher, an educated man for the time. Perhaps, that that explains his linguistic talent. He almost sounds like an Old West Robin Hood, especially with his having no intent to harm anyone, and only taking the strong boxes.

I was happy to see my hero, General Stonewall Jackson in the video, even if it was an actor playing him. Stephen Lang is the actor. The clip was what appeared to be a Yankee officer on horseback. It is actually Colonel Thomas Jackson at 1st Manassas wearing his blue uniform. This was where he earned his alias, Stonewall. He was shortly, after this, promoted to General.

I grew up country and most all of us were poor. I don't think I can remember anyone who would give a hungry man table scraps and disrespect him for asking for a meal. Somehow I find the way that person treated Bart just for being hungry way worse than robbing stagecoaches. A shotgun is scary weapon because of the spread and mess it makes. Having one pointed at you from the get-go might be a deterrant for many a guard. Also, there is the danger of the passengers getting hurt or killed.

The person who did the research and wrote the play followed the version of the events as you gave them pretty close. The one difference was allegedly Bolton's motivation came from Wells Fargo, forcing him off of a productive gold claim he had established. Supposedly the only stages he robbed were Wells Fargo. In any event you gave another wonderful lesson about the history of the old west.
