- Our recent tour of Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary. A closed down Haunted Prison. Part 1 was the Prison, This one Part 2 you meet the Guard and a former Inmate. Part 3 is the Distillery and Restaurant.
We just took this tour this past weekend and the guard on your video was one that we got to speak with I could have listened to his stories all day. Great Video.
Great vid! I know lots of stories about that place. My dad was the food manager there back during maximum security days when James Earl Ray was there. Took me to work with him once when I was around 10 years old- actually ate with the inmates . Lots of history there
Wow, that is awesome. I love the stories a lot better that I liked the Prison.
Ol'Brushy, I as well as my dad John Henry Brown done time there...Howard Kirby was a good man, his mama was a sweetheart and a great friend to my family... I still have drawings from him I got at Northeast...Nearly everyone is long gone, but never forgotten
Thanks for sharing! This place is on my list to visit once this COVID stuff clears up.
It's awesome, maybe you'll get lucky like I did and follow a former prisoner and Guard around. Great stories. Thanks for the comment
My husband spent 5 years there. I love hearing his stories
@Ivan Snyder he’s 40
That's a long time to be there, I bet he has some crazy stories
I got classified there in 1984, bushy mountains name was ETRC, it was one of three TDOC intake center's. This guy is full of it.
For some reason I just don't remember any of these things happening and I was there.
I think it was 83 or 84 when I went there. My number was 118589. Brushy should have never been sold to private investors to be opened as a museum for people to laugh and make fun of the conditions there. I remember some of the front windows were broken and when we asked for extra blankets because of the cold we were told the law said the prison had to provide heat but there was no law saying they had to provide windows. The goon squad came up on the walk with oak clubs that were bigger than baseball bats.
Yeah ,at 18 I made a mistake and did some time. I'm still a human being that deserves to be able to eat and have clothing and shelter.
I overcame my issues and I have a great family and live fairly comfortably now but most of the correctional staff that worked at Brushy should be the ones in jail
A well known radio host ,Paul Harvey once said if you ever want to see the lowest form of life ,go to Brushy Mountain at shift change.
We just went up there today..I can remember well when they moved the inmates to regional and shut it down..I watched them drive the big max security concrete cubes in..if you are ever in east Tennessee it is absolutely worth the stop
Wished I had a dime for in every time that "back in my day" was said . 😝
I could listen to this guy tell stories all day. Glad I found it!
He was a character for sure
Why does he remind me of SI Robertson Everytime he says just gives ya a idea lol
I didn't think that, but now I do. Lol
Very interesting, I could not hear (deaf) but liked seeing pictures
Thank you, after your comment I done a little research and found that you can click the cc button on the bottom of the screen and it writes what is being said on the screen. Thank you for watching, hope this helps
Conley t. Hunley was there till 1965
He turned 21 boys was sent there
I have my old cell block key, with an old Brushy Mt Dog Handler patch, Courtesy of former long time guard D. Bunch. He used to listen to me pick and sing there. And again at Morgan Co. after we'd closed Brushy. I was on the moving crew, one of the last inmates out that last day. That last ride out is forever burned in my mind. I could tell plenty of my own prison stories I suppose. But, I hardly mention it. 2 counts of murder and a dirty D.A. landed me there. Is what it is. At the same time, the times I have shared my stories, I done it in a way that Ppl Wanted to Listen. I'm disappointed as I watch this video, at the method of story telling that's taking place throughout the first part of it. There's No Sincerity in anything that man says. Just a bunch of rattle and chatter. They can certainly do better. Yours Truly, TDOC#401,164
That's a neat story, if you'd like to ever meet there and tell your story on my Channel, I'd love to record it and put it out there for everyone to see. If you are interested, please email me at skinnyga@yahoo.com
Thanks for the great reply
@@MichaelDavisOutdoorAdventures I'll think about it. Alotta pain comes with my story. I press on. Not turn back. I left this place on its final day and moved on over to Morgan Co. My final release, was on the very day of one of the deaths, in my murder charges. A life long childhood friend. It was Christmas. It was somewhat sobering. As I didn't kill him. He'd killed himself. Anyway. I assumed that having served time for it, maybe I Could've done more, maybe I Was, held accountable, By God, that maybe it was the final chapter that closed that part of the book. Sometime in 2011, I'd become friends with Mindy Mccready. By 2013, very close friends. Always phone calls, txts. Laughter. Sometime after 3, Feb 17th, my phone rang. She was gone. Almost 9 hrs to midnight, was my birthday. I spend each one since thinking about that. I spend the other 364 trying not to remember the rest. And you wanna hear about it. Ppl are cruel! I don't have much for any of this stuff. A dear friend wanted to shoot 2 maybe 3 music videos at Brushy, my old cell, my music, My Life in some of my songs. It's been over a decade. And it isn't done yet. I can play at home. I can be happy without fame or fortune, I can move forward without constantly rehashing what I can't forget. In those circumstances Ppl won't Let you forget! I'm not like Merle Haggard, I didn't break into a bar that was already open and grace San Quentin. I became part of Brushy, Mt, because people died. It isn't something I wanna be known for. I've often wondered how my little mama must've felt the night she saw my face on tv. The Only person she had in the whole world, in her 70's, with dementia. And there's her son, on the channel 11 news, with a $750,000.00 dollar bond, and 2 counts of murder. And my pride, who never met her Daddy, til she was 5. She's 16 now, honor role, she'll graduate early. She's not to suffer anything because of me! Today I go by another name. I didn't choose it, it was given to me, ironically, in prison. And, quite often, I'm in places other than my hometown. It severs the reminders. And it stops, all the hearsay, and..story telling. Ppl love to hate. Everything from back then, has made alotta my life Since, Difficult! My illegitimate little Sis has asked many times that I accompany her and her 2 girls, Back to Brushy Mt. With That being said, Again, I'll think about it. If not, you at least got this much.
@@MichaelDavisOutdoorAdventures watch episode 5 touring brushy mountain state penitentiary, and Start at 42:21, for the True story about the little white boy and the killing at the weight bench! You know the one with all the blood running down the rain gutter, the one where he lay there bleeding with no one to help him for 9 hrs. And what was it, another 9 for the coroner to come in. Truth, from Former Guard! That being said, I'd also like to add, Honesty, and Integrity, go a long frkng Way! Ppl pay Good Money to walk thru this place and hear True stories from ppl like Me, Who Lived It!.. Not the made up, twisted, halfass BS George Wyatt puts on them! Fact vs Fiction. Ya'll go see for yourself. Thank you very much.
