Ya gotta love this Kegland brand they come up with more wonderful toys than Batman, I've been shopping with them for years now and have never had a hic-cup. Great review my friend 👍 I always keep an eye out for your content. Happy brewing/distilling mate . Cheers from Aussie 🦘🦘.
Hi @garrymcgaw4745, while I knew KegLand did a lot of products, I never bought anything from them before. I am quite impressed how the Temperature Controller works. Currently doing a Kale wash and it is bubbling away nicely.
Looking forward to more videos 👍 My question is can this temperature controller be used for maintaining a mash at 60 min - 65c temp, then step mash to 75c for 10 mins and then a boil at 100c+ for 60 mins in an electric brew in a bag system? Basically a brew kettle with an electric kettle element for heating and a mesh basket for the bag. Would this controller manage the range of temperature and the heat? Thanks for your videos, very informative 👍
Hi @donmac5926, so yes, the Temperature Controller can do all you want, but only from a controller point of view. It can turn ON/OFF the power to a heat source, but can your heater get to the ranges you want? The RAPT Temperature Controller can sense between -20C and up to 120C. You can create profiles to say to heat to a certain temperature, then hold it there for a set temperature, then do something else. What is even better is if you tell it for example to heat to 60c for 60 minutes, you can tell it to start the 60 minute counter once it starts to heat to 60c, or to start it only once the temperature has reached 60c. You get to choose for each step that you create. You can also tell it (if you want to) to email you at the start or end of each step & you type what you want it to tell you at that time. It is a very clever system that can be used for so many things, even non brewing things. You could for example use this like an InkBird to maintain temperatures in a Greenhouse & you can monitor it and also change how it works for different seasons!
@@brewingadvice Thank you for your reply. My biab system is powered by a 3kw kettle element, so therefore, with the temp controller, I should be able to maintain temperature for the mash and the boil is that correct?
It will be able to turn on and off your heating source yes. You will though need to get the temperature sensor inside your wort so it knows what the temperature is.
Another great looking device. I saw something similar a few years ago for greenhouses and growrooms. I do have an unrelated question... How much are you paying for 1kg of sugar now? Here in Ireland, they have now jumped in price to 1.82 euros. I used to pay .95 euros before lockdowns. My daughter was up north the weekend and said she saw 1kg for 1.30 sterling (about 1.52 euros)
Hi @irishdave4322, There have been very similar products for your greenhouse for many years. The big manufacturer is call InkBird. The most advanced one can do Bluetooth to your phone, but all they can do is switch on and off the plugs. The RAPT system though you can pare the Pill to it so that you can monitor so much more. As to the cost of sugar, I am paying around £1.06 per kg which is €1.24.
