      Is charcoal good for filtering. I read it somewhere.
      And does putting some copper mesh in enhance the flavour for dark spirits?

      Yes, charcoal is great for filtering spirits, We actually offer a range of carbon filters and activated carbon products specifically designed for this purpose. You can check them out here: myodrinks.co.nz/collections/spirits-filtering
      Note that only activated carbon/charcoal made specifically for the filtration of water/spirits should be used.
      As for copper, it can definitely help to eliminate unwanted odours when added in small amounts. Through trials, we’ve found that incorporating copper saddles or a small copper sheet can enhance the overall quality of the spirit, although the difference may not be drastic. This is primarily to remove undesirable flavours and smells, but for dark spirits, you generally want to preserve the natural flavours rather than strip them away.
