    Mackenzie Scott's quiet early music gave hints that she could get loud, but I still wasn't prepared for the ferocity of her new work. Recording as Torres, she spends her new album Sprinter unleashing as-yet-unheard intensity and power, all while performing with incredible prowess.
    Sprinter is the album that taught me to love Torres' music: It channels clear influences like Patti Smith and PJ Harvey, while still hinting at further growth. (She's only 24.)
    Her band is extraordinary, too. Guitarist Cameron Kapoor provides a perfect level of controlled noise under Scott's alternately melodic and aggressive playing, while Erin Manning contributes haunting harmonies and drummer Dominic Cipolla provides spacious punctuation. All of which made for a perfect storm, right in NPR's offices.
    Set List
    "New Skin" 00:00
    "A Proper Polish Welcome" 05:50
    "The Harshest Light" 11:40
    Credits
    Producers: Bob Boilen, Morgan Walker; Audio Engineer: Brian Jarboe; Videographers: Morgan Walker, Colin Marshall, Lani Milton; Assistant Producer: Elena Saavedra Buckley; photo by Lydia Thompson/NPR

    Dear God I love this woman with all of my heart. (And the band too, they're all equally brilliant.)

    If you didn't know Torres before .... welcome to amazing. Incredible artist. Musicians are best when they show some blood and anger, I think.

    Thank you Tiny Desk for introducing Torres to me. Completely mesmerised and just in time for me to see her on tour in London.

    My thought when I heard her singing was, "oh thank god". There are thousands of polished singers who sound almost exactly like someone else. But to be real, takes risk, and a long development of learning to trust yourself to fly. To me, it's what makes someone truly a star, and it's very rare that people go there. Hallelujah we have a live one! The band and music accompany her well, hitting that sweet spot between calm and powerful. Grateful, loving this. This is what I'm talkin about.

    • @redlion7373
      @redlion7373 7 лет назад +2

      Thomas Kittock Just to get back to basics here, its not about the image (that's what I'd love to see happen, anyway.) It is about the Music.

    • @thomaskittock2866

      Red Lion I've had this discussion with others on these videos I think, both are powerful tools to spread a message.

    • @redlion7373
      @redlion7373 7 лет назад

      Thomas Kittock Well I can appreciate that as well. Image as spreading a message as opposed to corporate conditioned images. That's primarily what went though my head, the corporate condtioning. Elaborate on what you mean and ill let it stew in my brain over the weekend and get back at you.

      An IED can be Improvised Explosive Device, used usually by terrorists. Or GlassIED could also be phonetically pronounced "glass-eyed," meaning possibly entranced or just stoned. Think a little before you judge someone's net persona.
