Just picked up a used pontoon with a 60 HP Bigfoot and was curious about Vessel View. Planning on tinkering with different prop pitches and this seems like a great tool to help with that. Great overview. New subscriber.😃
When you install this, does it populate the hours from the data on the ECU or does it start at Zero hours? I have a 2016 Ranger with a 175 Verado.....I am having a difficult time understanding how a $60k boat did not come with a simple hour gauge on it. I have no idea how many hours are on the engine.
You have to put in the total amount of fuel you have when you fill up, and the size of the tank. Then you have to have vessel view connected and it subtracts your fuel use during the trip. If you forget to connect it, it doesn't know that you used that fuel.
I like the vesselview and am considering buying it, however my tacho and speedometer are also smart craft so most feature I can already see. I have a question, since this is basically a CANbus system, you should be able to mount this right in the dash right? I don’t understand why they want you to put it in the hot engine cowl.
It's a great tool to have any easy to install. By having this device it tells you what code comes up during operation that the mechanic sees when you take it to them. Track RPM, gas usage, speed. A really great tool to have when on the water.
@@clearwaterfishing that's pretty much what I settled on. One FYI for the channel, the instructions say you have to have a yellow or red terminator plug, mine was blue, (2022 engine) I called mercury and they said the instructions are old so the blue cap works as well, just FYI.
@@clearwaterfishing just didnt want anyone else wondering about it since instructions say yellow or red. but blue is on the new ones and it works just fine.
U have a 2012 mercury 115 4 stroke and just installed this. The only thing i can get to work is engine ours and rpm im pissed that i cannot get temp of engine and i thought fuel level because my gas gauge is broken. So this is not accurate at all for fuel its guessing how much fuel you have left no thanks.I cant get voltage nothing piece of crap.
Sorry man. I guess your motor is missing many sensors. It doesn't work as a gas gauge. It does monitor fuel usage and can estimate how much is left if you fill it up and use it.
I also have 2012 115 HP 4 stroke (STBD) on Tracker V175 (second owner). Last fall I started having a fuel issue and audible alarm from Tracker. I purchased VVM primarily for the fault information. While it does provide more details on faults, I have yet to resolve the fuel issue (despite replacing low pressure pump in Fuel Systen Module). I have also observed some engine sensors not reporting to the phone/app but have often been able to resolve this bad behavior with a reconnect (close VVM and try again). Finally, I find the fuel consumption feature bettter than "guessing", but a bit of a pain to use (my gas gauge still works). Bottom Line: Since it did not help me resove my fuel issue, I am dissapointed with VVM. If my engine was working properly, the only value VVM provides me is maintenance (knowing engine hours, etc.). If you decide to purchase, I totally agree with looking for a discount.
How much faster will my boat go with this app? How many more fish will I catch? If you aren’t maintaining your engine on your own, then you probably shouldn’t own an engine.
@@clearwaterfishing I got the vessel view twice. The StarCraft will not light up. Just put a 2021 power head on with 5 hours. Can not get t It to work called Mercury they didn't have a clue what the issue. Took it to a Mercury mechanic still couldn't figure it out.
No it was the wiring harness on my 2010 Nitro Z8. Once that was identified it works great. If your having issues with coming check with a local mechanic to see if additional wiring needed.

Good overview, thanks for the info!! Just got one for my 115 pro xs
Glad I could help!

ECU hours
Will it control my sports mode on my 2023 v10 400 hp mercury motor 10:58
So does it give an accurate reading of fuel left in the tank or is it guessing from the input you put in

That helps a lot. Thank You.
can it show mpg, to optimize trimming at any level of speed or rpm?
does your boat need a paddle wheel or something for the speedometer?
It uses gps for speed.
Will this work with two motors on your boat
You would have to get 2 if you wanted to use them at the same time. Not sure if it would work at the same time though.
Hi,
Dose the Vessel View read current motor hours or start from zero when plugged in?
Thanks.
It reads the current motor hours. So the first time I plugged it in to my used boat it said 73 hours.

I think that would work. I would try it in my driveway first to make sure everything work as it should.

I have a occasional miss will it tell me what fault it is

nice - just got one where did you put the module? i have a 50 so probably about the same inside
I zip tied it to a wire harness on the starboard side toward the back. Almost right over the spark plugs.

Seems like a great tool to manage maintenance. I will get it for that.
I did for maintenance hours and just curiosity its a pretty cheap add-on nice to see temp, volts precise rpms and all that. very easy install.

Mine disconects every 30 seconds any advice?
