  • Mandalas, the Sanskrit word for "circle," are far more than simple shapes.
They are profound, symbolic representations of the universe and the human spirit, originating from Hindu, Jain, and Buddhist traditions.
Mandalas originated as far back as the 4th century, with the first image appearing in the sacred Hindu text, the Rig Veda c. 1500 - c. 500 BCE.
But what’s fascinating about the mandala is that its influence has transcended borders, finding its place in Western psychology and contemporary art.
This makes it unique from almost every other symbol.
So, what exactly do mandalas represent? And why are they so popular today?

As a child my first experience of the mandala effect was through a small toy our parents would buy us called a "kaleidoscope" it was given to us with NO explanation of meaning or any info as to what it was all about and it was fascinating for a minute, but to this day if I am playing music on RUclips and I do not want to get shut down due to an inactive screen I will put up a RUclips video of a kaleidoscope to keep the screen open and my music playing! Thank you for this video!

I am currently embroidering the yantras of various Hindu deities. Very relaxing, almost meditative. These are symbols representing the highest of philosophies.
