    (Deep Listening & Authentic Communication)
    The exchange between the singer and the accompanying musician(s) takes the form of "Call and Response" with its unique nuances, which sets it apart from other similar forms. The singer sings a line or two of a poem (call), and the musician responds in varying fashions (response).
    At times the musician/instrument (listener) mirrors the singer/singing (the speaker) perfectly. This is more true when the musician/instrument responds simultaneously as the singer is singing, with a beat or two behind. This illustrates the listener's ability to remain empty and receive what the speaker is sharing without adding anything of its own. It merely echoes what is heard to reflect and validate the singer/singing (speaker). This allows the speaker to listen to itself for a second time and sets up the container for this dialogue (communication)-the beginning of a friendship.
    At times, in response, the musician/instrument (listener) adds its own natural and unique flavor in empathizing with the singer/singing (the speaker); revealing that they both experience and feel some of the same things and that the singer/singing (the speaker) is not alone here. The musician/instrument (listener) naturally has its own perspectives, sounds, tones, constitutions, and temperaments. Nevertheless, it does this while remaining in the same musical mode (mood, content, and context) as the singer/singing (speaker) is.
    At times, the musician/instrument (the listener) responds in a completely unprecedented manner taking the conversation to the next level in an attempt to bring movement and flow. It prompts the singer/singing (speaker) to contemplate, move, and arrive at a new natural consciousness level in the ever-unfolding discoveries. Stagnation is the enemy of music. Even the silence between notes is rich with creativity.
    And at times where there are more than one musician/instrument (listener), they take turn reflecting and resonating with the singer/singing (speaker). Additionally, they partake in an exchange between themselves, building a cohesive community.
    No matter how we look at it, the musician/instrument (listener) never leaves the sight or presence of the singer/singing (speaker). It's always there. It never judges it, nor does it take over and change the mode/mood/content/context.
    I invite you to keep all of this in mind and heart as you listen to this heavenly piece by Masters Shajarian and Mousavi. Notice the effortless dance between the two. Their somewhat predestined destination is traveled with much creativity and wonderments.
    *I once heard Master Shajarian say that the singer is like a flame and the musicians like moths dancing around the flame. The dance results in a union.
