When I retired a lot of years ago, I got a job at a local electronics store which had been there for ~60 years. A small sales staff that was divided into two shifts. Day time from 8 to 5 and the night shift from ~ 3 to 9. The only company that I ever worked for that included lunchtime in the work hours. So, when you were there for 8 hours, your lunch break and short breaks were included. No time clock to worry about. All of the workers love their jobs and would come in early or stay late to make sure the job was done. Your B-day, no problem. A cup cake with a candle on it and a b-day song from the staff was included. Like a family. The original owner's wife still worked there. She did accounts receivable and payable well into her 90's. Her name was Miss Mary. A lovely woman. The internet was their downfall. Prices and delivery did their worst on them. They finally closed down and sold everything off. The building was torn down for a drive thru. I still miss the people and the job.
I couldn’t imagine owning a brick and mortar Retail store today.
It looks like Frys Electronics back in the 90’s when it was good. You could play with everything. From $10,000 VR Headsets to $50,000 plasma tvs. Wish I had one near me! Thanks for covering this.
I was going to say the same thing. Looks a lot like how Frys Electronics got started.
I agree! Fry's reinvented!
I hope it survives. Fry's was worth the road trip time. I was surprised they didn't keep Outpost when closing retail but they didn't.
There’s a chain of electronics stores in Texas called “Altex.” These stores are laid out a lot like an Altex store, but the selection of products in this store has far more product groups.
Fry’s went bankrupt in the Bay Area because they got rid of the employees who knew stuff and replaced them with a bunch of Afghans who robbed them blind.
That’s awesome. Hope this store is widely successful, as we need more of these stores we can physically go to.
So like a Micro center with Radio.
The new Gigaparts store is awesome I enjoyed going there today for the soft opening. It was cool.
Nice. Didn't realize your were close to Huntsville.
Looks like a better version of Fry’s. Amazing to see how some stores thrive and others don’t. I’d love to see this store in the greater Seattle area.
Nice to see how GigaParts has grown up. Store looks great, reminds me of what TechAmerica could have been if Radio Shack had stuck with it.
Definitely 'kid in a candy store' experience! Thanks for sharing.
Reminds me a lot of what Radio Shack was like at one time. This, however, is a much bigger footprint. Had Radio Shack stuck to what they did well, they would still be around.
You mean Incredible Universe ( a competitor to Best Buy and Brandsmart created by Radio Shack itself containin a full Radio SHack inside)
@@eijentwun5509 Incredible Universe was awesome. They made the one where I live into a Costco. That's how big they were.
@eijentwun5509 Radio Shack had another test chain called TechAmerica which had three stores. TechAmerica WAS exactly like this GigaParts store. Big selection of ham gear, computer parts, cables, etc, plus all the usual inventory of a Radio Shack. It was far more tech-focused than Incredible Universe.
They did try exactly with a chain called TechAmerica. It had three stores at its peak before RS pulled the plug, around 2003 or so.
Man we need a store like that in every town!!!!!
We definitely need one in South Florida.
Wow, wish they'd open a store in Melissa TX. I wish them much success.
Thanks for sharing 👍 What a shop! No need shopping on Amazon with what they are offering.
I've been going to gigaparts for years now. I can't wait to check out the new store
I stopped by on the way home today. It looks great and is a vast improvement over the old store.
💯
My favorite store is Hro Milwaukee. Used to be an Aes store until it's owner passed away. Hro Milwaukee is wall to wall radio. To me this is ham radio heaven. You go there to do radio.
Oh wow, this is neat! I remember driving down to gigaparts in Huntsville a few Decembers ago and their store was very quaint. Super cool to see this larger store and everything else they are carrying! My mother was just talking about getting a 3d printer, I'll have to drive down here to see what they have.
Looks like Fry’s Electronics for those who remember… esp out here in Kalifornia.
Or, some of the Orange County (electronics) stores in the early eighties.
Wow! I foresee a trip to Alabama.
Yes! This store is about 1.5 hours south of me. I visited the old store a few times. It was always nice but now it looks awesome.
Well worth the trip!!
What a store!
Canada needs such a store
There is Radio World in Toronto but not sure if it is as large as this place.
Miss radio shack and a large labeled Electronic store that sold TV & radio tubes, new stuff and greatly cheap surplus items. I asked my grown up son if any of his friends owned a so!seeing gun or soldering iron and he said what are they used for. So glad that my dad let me wire our two sets if training s & lights in plastic Ville buildings, buy me my own Weller 100/140 watt soldering gun and three sets of erector sets. I get upset every time my son attempts to use a screwdriver. After I got out of the Army took a master course in electronics that VA paid 90% of tuition. Got to put together a Healthkit scope & 25" TV.
I wish I had one of those near me. That is a great place to take a child of all ages to give them something to do to stimulate their minds. I could always find something in there for me!
Wow! I can’t wait to visit. Thanks!
This store gives me an excuse to swing by Huntsville on my way East this summer!
Others have mentioned this was reminiscent of older Frys Electronics, but it also reminded me of the short-lived chains Tech America (by Tandy) or Incredible Universe (by Radio Shack)
What an eclectic selection of categories. Nice to see and I'd love to have it near me. But TBH, I don't see how a store like this could be profitable today. I know Huntsville is full of tech people, but still. That place has got to have incredible overhead costs.
I could spend a whole week looking around in this place. I live too far away from it. I 'd have to order on-line. Thanks for sharing.
Miss AES (had one locally 15 minutes away), and of course Radio shack where I could actually order things & pick up. Surprised no longer brick & mortar with Electronic components. Even Micro Centers has shrunk that section.
Got this on my bucket list!
It’s like a Best Buy with a ham radio section
Wow, its like Frys Electronics of the late 1990s and very Early 2000s
I used to go get ABR coax and Larsen antennas from the one they had in, Wilsonville Oregon, it was sad watching the slow death of Frys, I think Alinco was the last 'ham' brand they had before they dropped ham transceivers in the very early 2000s
Fry's......that's a name I haven't heard in a while!
The place looks awesome! Can't wait to see it in person at Huntsville
You're gonna like it
A snack bar….definitely catering to the ham crowd. Lol
Awesome! Gigaparts gigastore! Best of luck. Being 1K miles away, I’ll have to stick with the virtual store on the website.
Thanks for the tour.
This is like a Big Boys, epic toy store! I can't wait to go, but may have to wait till the Huntsville, Al. Ham-Fest, since I live in Ga. But its on the list of stops!
We need one of these stores in Northern Bucks County PA.
Wow kid in a candy store is an understatement. If I had one of these near me I would definitely become a frequenter. Closest type of store near me I can think of would be Microcenter.
Looks amazing, I was going to try to go to the opening this week, we'll see. I guess I'm glad it isn't in north Texas, saving me a lot of money.😆
I own one of those tiny telescopes it's called a dwarf 2 and it really is amazing if you see it run out and get it you won't get a better telescope for the money
Thanks for ther tour. Well done.
Wow! Talk about paradise! Lucky you. Thanks for the documentary.
Thanks! Great tour! Looks like a short trip to Rocket Town is in my future! 73 de K1CAM
So a Best Buy with a few a little bit of Ham Gear. I certainly wish them all the best.
While true. DX Engineering and Summit racing are in kind of the same vein.
I think gigaparts is taking more of a Maker Market role and many makers are becoming interested in Ham radio.
Well, you could go to Disneyland or you could go here. Great to see this. Im in Calif and so itching to hit the road.
That is amazing. Looks like they are challenging the big box computer store and other hobby stores. Hope you didn't spend too much money.
I plead the fifth!
GigaParts is a continuation of what both Radio Shack and Tech America used to be......and that's good thing ! Too bad there's not a GigaParts in Atlanta !
My next trip to NC from TX, I defiantly will be stopping by there.
I was wondering what they were going to do with all that space. Please looks good!
i'd love to go, wish it was closer maybe well get one in s fl one day
Another excuse to visit Huntsville Ham Fest in August :-) hamfest.org/ Wouldn't be that bad of a drive from FL.
Good use of a defunct Best Buy!!
The building does resemble a Best Buy but it's actually an old Burlington Coat Factory. About the same square footage though.
Most excellent video production and your voice tour was simply amazing.
Ty so very much Brother
Glad you enjoyed it
We can only wish to have a ham shop like that downunder!😮
No radio stores at all down there?
Yeah, this looks like Fry's Santa Clara. I had to move back to Michigan and RadioShacks all closed. Now I feel like I live in a ghost town.
We need one here in Webster, Texas since Fry's went away.
Wow, what a great 17 minute commercial on you tube - you done us such a service !
Incredible Universe remake! I.U.was a great experience!
Hated to see Tandy kill it off. But helped when Fry's took over some pf the I.U. locations.
Yeah I'm glad you shared this I need to get down there and check that store out I'm new at ham radio I took my technician test passed it I haven't got a call signed yet but I need to figure out how to get in a club or something and get someone to show me a lot about Ham radios I've got a desire to learn I'm also studying for my general test right now if you got any good pointers and ham radio and I sure could use the help
Nothing beats in person learning with a good club. RUclips is another valuable source of information. Just remember that the hobby is a marathon and not a sprint. Pace yourself :-) Congrats on getting your license!
Now THAT is my kind of store. Id be in heaven at that place. I'd buy all kinds of stuff.
Reminds me of Frys Electronics Stores. This is what Altex Electronics, in Texas, could become if they put effort in it.
Wow.
Radio Shack was good. Somehow, it lessened the variety especially in hardware and tools, not sure if that was before or after it became The Source, but it got even less variety over a short timeframe thereafter. I kept asking the whole time why this change, less variety and I didn't get reasonable answers.
Later, there became some of what was sold, but it's never been the same. I could buy all sorts of radios and radio parts, hobby parts and tools. And I even made my own electronic display with sound and light from a cassette tape case and other random items with the hardware and tools from the old store. That's not as easy to do with what has come back.
With DIY and use of makerspaces being common activities and rights to repair becoming actual written rights, we need more than Radio Shack provided. I think this store you video taped will do well as it is or find a way to add even more variety while it wants to grow and get more stores built in communities.
I didn't see packages of fasteners such as bolts, nuts, and seals in the video, maybe they're hard to see on a screen. But there's so much of that people need even though the DIY products and products needing assembly you showed come packaged with common and specialized hardware included.
I once emptied an entire three-floor office building of office equipment, disassembled pieces, broken things and personal goods left by workers during a contract to move a company out and into a new building. I found more kinds of hardware there than any Radio Shack or similar sized hobby store and was permitted to take what I wanted. And I find uses for it sooner or later. I can install an anker thread into a wooden desk to bolt a flexible desk lamp into, it's on my to-do list. I also found a few 1980s / 1990s Radio Shack gadgets and small appliances.
The only way to do better for hardware than I did emptying that place is to go to an actual fastener store, which I did once, but that's a bit of a long trip. Princess Auto is great too, I think more common and unique tools in that one with a great variety of other things such as hardware, electronics and gadgets for home and yard.
I hope this store in the video becomes big across the map, it has lots to offer and can be the centre for anyone looking to buy without travelling far. I haven't seen a store selling antennas and ham radios before, there's some customers going for those.
It is an impressive want. Candy store for sure. 😊
I wish they could be a bit like Radio Shack with all the small electronic parts needed to build and electronic project.
Fry’s electronics the resurrection! Even the snack bar!
My goodness. It’s worth the drive from Shreveport to go there.
Will you be able to be there for the Grand Opening on Saturday? Hope to see you there!!!!
Hopefully but depends on work schedule
Reminds of Fry's
Of course they couldn’t get that awesome store when I lived there, lol. Good for Huntsville though, that’s really cool.
This is what they need to do for the Las Vegas Store.
Not in this economy, dollar devaluation is only going to exponentiate.
Voice over has it's advantages.
The store consulted local thief rings and they recommended more higher end items be stocked closer to the door.
Wow this is unique wish they had more in the midwest
All I can say is WOW! Too bad no decent ham stores left in Ohio. As for photography, I have a perfectly good Olympus OM10 Quartz sitting in its bag. Too bad no one really left around to process color film nor any suppliers for chemistry for black and white.
As for maker stuff we do have a Micro Center store in town.
reminds me of the now defunct Fry’s Electronics chain. It was a nerd paradise.
One of the things I noticed that they don't appear to have is "Project Cases" to put your built projects into. Now I MAY have missed them, but I DO not remember seeing them. Definitely a whole candy store type situation!!! Tnx for the look inside! 73
Come to think of it, I don't remember seeing project boxes either but it would be easy to overlook something in there.
@@KM4ACK Thanks for the reply, I'd LOVE to go there, but it'd be one hell of a road trip from "2" land!
73.
We need one theses in oak ridge,tn
it looks husome i wish they have one in texas that's not in dallas or austin
Oh, this reminds me of the old Fry's Electronics in the SF Bay area. You would need to Double, ot triple the size.
look good, but a bit to far for me to get to.
but all that open floor and shelf space. if they do not fill it up, and move things. looks to be a fail.
here in ca, the retail sq footage is very pricey.
Reminds me of Radio Shack's store in Denver, "Tech America." Unfortunately, it was not a success.
I could easily spend a whole day in that store.
Do they have linear amplifiers, too?
Not totally sure but I don't recall seeing any on the floor. However, not everything was out as I was there for the soft opening. Grand opening is this weekend.
Well I bet you they’re going to build out a huge Flight stem area and maybe also regular pilot supplies we’ve got a big shortage of pilots in America right now and so there’s gonna be a lot I’ll be becoming pilots over the next 20 years but Microsoft Flight similar today is absolutely amazing. It’s unbelievable you can fly any approach anywhere in the world, the graphics are amazing and you can buy all the actual avionics for your desk at home the real stuff I mean it’s not real simulated, but it looks and feels real the knobs feel the same. The clicking on the knobs is the same so your friend said you can buy a Garmin G 1000 and associate auto pilot all that right for your desk.
It's like if Micro Center had 4 times as much floorspace, but the same amount of stock. Very strange way to organize, but the stuff they're selling looks great.
hi nice video. Question: What is the closes airport? I m from PHX-AZ, I would like to fly over there to any airport near by. Thanks
Huntsville Internationale
@@KM4ACK thank you !!!!!!!!!!!
That is some store!
Need a like store on or near Huntsville or the highway which goes through it:;;I46.
I need a giant TV.. a ref, and a washing machine..
Would you know if they have a catalog that you could buy and have it sent out?
Don’t think so but the website is available. Gigaparts.com
Looks like Vegas is getting a store.
Nice toy store! Do they have model rockets? Or is that in another part of Huntsville? 😉
I might take a run down there. it will give me an excuse to visit my grandson.
Double win!
I could live in that place.
Reminds me a little like Yodobashi camera in Japan.
they need a bed section, so i can move in 😀
😂😂👊
I wonder how long before it is bankrupt. Love these stores but tough to make pay. Nothing like that here in New Brunswick Canada.
First, I don't think you are copywrite responsible for accidental background music. I have seen worst then that here on You Tube. They are more responsible for any copywrite infringements there might be. I got letter one time for play "Unauthorized Music" I had play throughout the store I was a manager of. Now if you were recording it for the music for entertainment or sales in itself, that would be a different story. To be safe, I would have asked the business to turn it down for your video for a short time. The publicity they are getting would be well worth it.
Lastly, when I would walk in the door for the first time, I would think I died and went to heaven. You went to fast for me to do some shopping. LOL Yes, it was like looking back to the OLD days of Radio Shack. When I was young, they only had catalog sales that I would by parts from. Good video.
Just being safe with the copyright thing. I knew I moved quickly through the store but it could have easily been an hour long video otherwise and I would have probably spent more money that day. lol.
Amazing!
I like your voice over better. Not all that background noise.
